knowing how the rest of this series goes, this episode was completely recontextualized for me. really goes to show the amount of thought was put into this cartoon, with its re-watchability and all.
there's a distinct feel to the humor and gags in this show that I never had the language to define, but rewatching this, I think it's like this show is a ttrpg with a really funny gm. the setting itself is filled with ridiculous side characters and visual gags, and somehow it doesn't detract from the intrigue of the plot arc whenever that starts kicking in.
I appreciate that we can see right away that the hole in the reporter's shoe is on his left foot, so he can't have been the one who left the footprints.
Nature's greatest warrior is the Honey Badger. They are the size of a medium dog and fight lions. They can also survive multiple machete blows to face and their skin/fur can stop arrows.
Now all that, but even bigger and stronger, can swim with the best of them, and hunts in gangs of twenty instead of being solitary. That's what's called an Amazon river otter.
A small suggestion regarding the humor for this show going forward: *turn off subtitles* It really helps maintain the delivery and comedic timing for most of the jokes and one-liners. Just something i’ve noticed having watched and enjoyed this show way too many times. Super excited for this series to continue! 😆
i feel like it's harder for them because the subs probably help them catch what is being said and not miss anything when they are also talking esp. if more than one of them is making a comment at a time
I just realized that when Dipper and Mabel first find the front prints and Dipper says, "and they're leading to..." you can see wax Stan's shoe with the hole. It was right there the whole time.

While the episodes do not directly tie into the main mystery, if you pay attention to little details in the background or look for deeper meaning in some characters words or reactions, they do give hints to the main mystery. It is quite impressive.
I never even noticed that after they stated "There's a whole in the footsteps" that the camera panned over to the Grunkle Stan figure with a whole in ITS foot. Brilliant!

This episode was the funniest but also the creepiest/scariest episode of Gravity Falls season 1 cause you have these living Wax figures of historical (William Shakespeare), fictional (Sherlock Holmes), and Celebrities figures (Larry King) trying to murder Grunkle Stan and Dipper and Mabel especially when their eyes turn into these white blank pupiless Murdering state. Granted, it's debatable if you would call this the scariest episode of Season 1 cause their are others who would say that the next few coming up in Season 1 are more frightening than the Murdering Wax Figures, but wait till they reach Season 2 cause that has a lot more frightening episodes that blow Season 1's episodes out of the water (also not spoiling). Even the guest stars in the episode is interesting cause you got the late Larry King (God bless his soul) and Coolio voicing the Wax figure versions of themselves, while Wax Sherlock Holmes is voiced by comedian John Oliver.
