When I was young, I thought Victor's solo just blasted the rest of these guys out of the water. As I've gotten older and more accomplished as a bass player, I no longer feel that way when I watch this. The guy who really knocks my socks off now was Oteil. The level of discipline it must take to sing and play those notes simultaneously is just otherworldly.
@@_Majorasits not unnecessary to be able to vocalise what you are playing simultaneously is just proof that your brain and fingers are on the same page, that you are in control and not one overruling another.
George Benson does it most of the time that is nothing unusual to do for top notch musicians. Free and release Dr.Malachi Z.York EL and all political prisoners!!!@_Majoras
All are the greats and legends but only one GOAT, and he's so humble. I often notice that whenever he plays with other bass players, he always humbly 'tone down' or 'brakes' a bit of his playing which actually he is capable of doing far far more than that, while with all of that being said we can still see how great he is actually.
Anduve buscando esté video durante años!! Lo tenía en físico y se me perdió jeje y Gracias a ti brother lo puedo disfrutar de nuevo! Buena aportación!!!! Saludos desde Guatemala C.A. 🇬🇹🇬🇹🇬🇹
Why does everything have to be about 'Competition' or 'Proving yourself'? None of those bass players are trying to prove ANYTHING. I've seen every bass player on this stage with their respective bands and I can confirm there was zero ego on that stage. In fact, if there were even an ounce of ego on that stage, it would have been coming from John Patitucci and even he was enjoying the company of others.
When I first saw this I thought VW was the star because of the speed and Rocco was boring. After several viewings since then and after learning about them all I've come to respect them all for different reasons. Rocco was a solid player, not flashy. He played what made the song good. Take away his bass lines and the Tower of Power songs would not be as good. Patitucci is amazing here and comes up with several nice ideas. I now like Oteil's solo here the best.
Oteil siempre hace que sienta gran satisfacción con sus solos y scat...que tipo más musical.
The drummer is a real genius!
THANK YOU! Been looking for this for years. Saw it like 20 years ago on VHS.
Tenho esse DVD,vou postar mais vídeos.

the singing is absolutely unnecessary. who tf sings during a guitar/bass s-o-l-o?
@_Majoras It's not unheard of in jazz. I actually think it sounds pretty damn cool if it's done right.

George Benson does it for guitar, and has most of his career.

That's enough foundation to build the world tallest building right there
Say what you want about solos, but Rocco Prestia was an absolute groove machine with Tower of Power, absolutely killer.
The Drummer 🙏
The drummer is a damn machine !!!
That was a really good jam.
Patitucci is the master
The best phrasing of all time
Feel this in my bones!
Oteil's solo is on another level.
...yes, he knows when to enter and leave, he plays very well
You can't watch his solo without singing mimicking it lol

OTIEL !!!!
the pure example of just playing and not just trying to prove your self 'ROCO

Victor is on his own planet.
6:17 is my favorite part.
Does anybody know why Victor Wooten only plays a four string?
Roco is like Bob Dylan was at the We Are The World session.
Haha
Cool to see House on the stage sometime too
Roco podria haber dado mas, muy despacio su presicion. Patituci un master y sonido unico 👍
😮😂
Certainly not easy to solo with that rhythm & tempo, in my opinion‼️😅
JP1 just right, JP2 ruin everything😂
Patitucci is King. Victor is just a circus
빅터도 충분히 음악적입니다
you are circus :)
