fantastic video. I love how you shot this video and featured all the people that worked with you to build your sound project. Can't wait to watch more stuff from you.
thanks for the various links. i've got a 951 and maybe five out of ten speakers work. going to try simply speakers first. clearances are really tight, and hard to find speakers with the right dimensions.
Cool stuff. I’m in the market for getting a classic porsche. May sound silly to some people but big part of the fun will be to get the audio to amazing levels. Did so in my GT3 touring, it’s audiophile quality, sounds like live concert. Some say that the only music in a Porsche should come from the engine, but I don’t agree : all though I may have the best sounding naturally aspirated 4.0 GT3 engine, a strong stereo system adds to the character and the fun of driving. Below 3500 rpm there is not much engine sound happening anyhow, and above that the engine sound overtakes from the stereo even at loud levels. Best of both worlds, double the fun ❤
Great video, and fantastic color on your 3.2 911. Why not go with the Porsche "Classic" modern stereo, which is specifically made for vintage Porsches?
I’m really glad you liked it, and I hope it was helpful. I have three reasons why I didn’t go for the Porsche classic stereo. 1) even though Porsche sells this as an option for classic 911s, I don’t feel it is a good fit for air cooled cars. The modern style and nav does not fit the aesthetics of a classic 911 and feels more appropriate foe the water cooled cars - as I did for my 996. 2) to call this a “nav” feels like a stretch to me, it is very small and difficult to read. 3) Many vehicles, including Porsche of this era came with Blaupunkt radios. This one is a re-issue that looks exactly like the original, but with modern internationals, including Bluetooth. This is just my opinion. ☺️
Fair points, but if you’re upgrading anyway to a modern unit I don’t see why any modern unit is any different, as long as it looks good in the dash. Also, I like that it’s a Porsche part. The other alternative is just to get an original stereo from the mid-‘80s. That would be THE way to go to keep it authentic.
Nice. I have the same Blaupunkt head unit in my 86 Carrera, but have not upgraded the speakers or added an Amp/Sub. I love the location of your sub. Where did you end up mounting the amp?
@@Cartype I was thinking to put it in my 87 without amps, how much would you like for it? did you happen to keep the oil lines you removed and radiator, I would be interested
@@pkolodziejek I would recommend using the complete system (will sound better). I also want to be clear that I do not know if it is in perfect working condition. I used it a handful of times before discovering the condition of the speakers (as you can see in the video) and then stopped. Lastly, I did not save the oil lines or radiator.
I’ve never turned on the original Blaupunkt in my ‘85 Carrera, and I never would . . . There’s only one sound you should be listening to when driving an air cooled 911, and it ain’t the stereo.

Thank you. these guys did an amazing job! I can't believe I waited almost a year before I did it.
Very cool, Carlos, a labor of love.
Thank you !

This Blaupunk head unit was the original of the time. It is what came with this Porsche.

the amp is screwed on to the rear of the passenger footboard.
did u use the same front and rear speakers?
yes I did.
I would buy the old alpine from you if you still have it, I have 87 carrera
I have the entire set (head unit, two amps and the equalizer)

I have the whole set. Can you wait until November? (out of town)

The only 'audio upgrade' for an air-cooled 911 is the exhaust. Sheesh...
