@ how can it be a gap in the rules when the fia publicly addresses it and said they will do nothing against it? That’s just the nature of front wings. While the brake thing was clearly against the rules they dealt with it silently to avoid facing backlash from a team having won championships with something illegal on their car. And if youre saying the brakes didnt impact performance, in pre season testing max said the car did everything he wanted it to do, by the time it was banned in the summer he said the car doesnt turn even on -5 brake bias. Those championships are as near as makes no difference worthless, who knows for how long they had that advantage for

Hos is this news? McKaren openly cheated multiple times and even made jokes about it after the race... somehow it does not matter in this sport. The fact that they used the mini DRS wing without instantly being disqualified will always be strange to me.

I don't blame mclaren for the flexi wing. All teams should try to push the boundaries where they can. I blame FIA for being corrupt and placing money over the sport. Like you say they wanted an exciting championship so they turned a blind eye. If Red Bull had done it they would have banned it instantly so Max didn't get further ahead. But it was certainly cheating by mclaren. The ultimate take away is that for Lando to beat Max he'll need a significant car advantage for the whole season
As has been pointed out, these parts have to have some flexibility or else they would just shatter and this is verified by the FACT that the FIA do allow some flexibility. The new change still allows for some flexibility and as with last season, seeing a flexible wing this coming season will NOT constitute cheating.
Anyone who has watched F1 over the years knows that every team looks for the loop-holes and does what they can to work in those gaps. When a team comes up with an idea, the others always accuse them of cheating but in reality, they are just pissed that they didn't come up with the idea themselves.
Near every major carbon fiber component can have variable stiffness in it's construction. Side pods, floor in particular can be engineered to deflect under different loads. McLaren's upgrades through the 2024 year involved implementing a complete package of flexible parts. In the end FIA and Liberty knew what was going on but they were more interested in viewer ratings and race attendance and if that means letting a team have a unfair advantage then so be it.

I have news for you. This new directive won't stop the flexi wings. Wings have to flex. They will be stiffer, but they can not be infinitely stiff. They will still flex because the designers are clever. The cat is out the bad that flex = lap time. The wings will still flex

It does say that. The issue is not with what the rules say, it is in what they say they will do to test the wings. In this matter. Personally, I don't really like the rules too much lmao, I wanna see innovation.

McLaren had a decent performance jump along with Ferrari and to a degree, Mercedes, nothing more. But that was not the only thing that closed the gap.
The question that needs to be asked is how did the RB turn from a rocket-ship to a pile of dog shit overnight ?

I understand pushing the rules, at least I can understand that one cause such a very competitive environment, add to that a team expected to do well but did not for decades, they had to push it hard. Not right, but can understand it, what I cannot understand is things like Lando moving in his starting box and absolutely nothing happen, this was visible to the eye for the whole world and most def not something you get off with a warning for, this with all sensitive equipment aside it was totally visible, these teams and driver must be treated equal at all times.

Anyone trying to say that the gains that McLaren made were done ‘legally’ should have their head examined.
As there was nothing to say they couldn't do flexi-wing and bearing in mind McLaren weren't the only ones, and a blind eye being turned for most of last season, I feel that to allow flexi-wing should be left to further develop, as you say.
Yes there was, they were literally banned in the 21 season after merc complained to the FIA about RB. The FIA choosing not to enforce to create an artificial sense of competition does not change that, they were banned all along.

The fia played the game together whit mclaren. So unfair, they are not the real WC by the contructers it's Ferrari.
McLaren condemned themselves to less test time in preparation of the 2026 season, when the big rule changes take place!
Clever Red Bull?
people seem to forget this. The 2 teams with the biggest difference in test time this year will be Redbull and Mclaren. Redbull have needed to do with the least amount of time now for 2 years (and only got slightly more before that, because p2). Mclaren however will now have the least amount of testing time and they were 4th in 2023 and 5th in 2022. That’s a massive difference. So there will be less time for ‘fooling around’ lets say and test various routes, since they have so much less testing time compared to previous years. Will be interesting how they will cope with it
The thing is the Flexi McLaren rear wing was outlawed after the first race it was used in Baku and wasn't used again. The controversy around the Flexi front wing was practically null and void because when the video came out showing the flex in the McLaren front wing the video showed the flex in the Ferrari, mercedes and red bull ones as well all at the same time on the screen and they were all doing the same. So that got dropped quickly to

It really was on the Ferrari and red bull to. Not as much as the McLaren and Mercedes but it just means they did a better job than Ferrari and red bull. Just like the vettel years when red bull were doing it.

McLaren and FIA have never worked together or in unison, do you not remember 2007 when the FIA handed McLaren the biggest fine in sporting history, with out proof any of the knowledge one of McLaren engineers was in receipt of. McLaren did break rules in 2007 and I look forward to reading Ron Denise’s autobiography when he writes it. Other team including Redbull and Ferrari have used flexi wings in the past in previous seasons and then out laced later that season. Ferrari was caught using a uprated fuel flow meter but no one ever found out what the punishment was as Ferrari Internal Affairs kept it secret. Over the years Bernie and the FIA have changed the rules to suit the top 3 and McLaren and Williams have been left behind. The old guard are coming back

It's not cheating if they leave rules and regs so vague that the teams can use some imagination to bend rules like a wing at speed. If you don't want teams to make their cars better then make it a spec series and call it a day OR correct for the ABSOLUTE silliness of vague rules

As i have been saying for months, yes, they have been cheating and all that because the FIA wouldn't enforce their own rules to create artificial competition. But hey, it just shows why Max is the best to ever do it, he still went on to beat a bunch of cheating hypocrites in the one championship that really matters in F1 (don't try to deny it, they didn't even have a constructors championship to begin with for several years). Only the real GOAT can do such a thing.

Wrong. Red Bull and Ferrari didn't develop them because they didn't think they would be allowed and didn't want to waste resources, but the FIA allowed it.

You should not take this issue seriously Cameron and direct your McClaren hate elswhere. Oscar Piastri won Baku because of his talent not because of a very minor flex to its rear wing. Otherwise Redbull and everyone else would have shouted about it at that time. They and others did not. Only youtubers obsessed with hating teams/people beating Louis Hamilton tried this on. Despite Leclerc having DRS on Piastri at Baku, and still not being able to get past, that's how strong the mini DRS was. That's why McLaren won and not Ferrari.
Until we get clarification on the TD for the brakes I could care less what RB is complaining about
