    You need an air gun with staples. I don't like those fence staples lol I can't get them to go in the wood without really messing up my fingers . You did good 👍🏻

    My curiosity is getting the best of me. Did you hinge the door on the back rail or just use the wood piece to hold it up. I noticed what might be a lock on the outside block at the stop board once closed I think. Hope this makes since. Your build is really a great one, as I watched, I queried if you were using staples or nails. Of course that was answered in the video. You are much better skilled than I. I have the extra step of holding the fence staples with needle nose pliers, because of my blood thinner and age, my skin will tear where it once only bruised. Thank you for your patience with my questions, but it is part of my learning new things from your videos.

    hey man when I had baby chickens in my coop, I put some chicken wire across the bottom of the door so they wouldn't run out so easily. It didn't use to be an issue for me to just step over it until I've gotten older and having back issues making it hard for me to lift my legs higher up. just about a ft high is all u need if that.

    Is there a rule of thumb for tractor size for meat birds? Were getting 35 chicks in a few weeks. Don't have quite as much land to move it as you do so 10x12 seems a tad big.

    • @hickoryridgehomestead9177
      @hickoryridgehomestead9177  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      the rule of thumb is at least 2 sqft per bird. For 35 birds you could do a 8x10 and be fine.

    Will you be moving the tractor daily or frequently? If so, is it too big for you to move? Or, will you pull it with a vehicle?

    • @hickoryridgehomestead9177
      @hickoryridgehomestead9177  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Its pretty heavy and I built it that way on purpose due to all the bears we have around here. They didnt mess with it a whole lot so Im going to build a lighter one for next year. I did move this one every day and going down hill I could move it by hand but uphill I used the winch on the side by side. It only took a couple of minutes. The last 2 weeks I moved it twice a day.

    Laying down a foot of flat hardware cloth on the ground all around the perimeter can help with predators. If you do nothing, then you run a risk.

  • @babybabezmomed9996
    @babybabezmomed9996 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Meat birds are real slow and dumb. What is gona prevent them from getting their feet squeezed when you pull the tractor? Wouldn't wheels placed to maybe lift the tractor an inch or so above the ground make for easy movement and save their feet? Or even placing some PVC at the bottom back of the tractor to act as a buffer? so when moving this pushes them forward? Neat build but think about their feet getting crushed.

    • @hickoryridgehomestead9177
      @hickoryridgehomestead9177  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Ill feed them when I move the tractor. they will follow the feeder and not be anywhere near the back. Dragging one under the back was one of my main concerns

      @@hickoryridgehomestead9177 Oh I gathered that much, you have a lot of wild predators to deal with, fortunately the only predators we have are weasels and rats, one bite on a chicken from a rat kills the chicken, (had that happen to me before) oh and my dogs and cats took me some time training them to take care of my chickens, lol, your house is coming along awesome, been watching your vids all day yesterday and this morning, best of luck to you!!!!!!
