    I love the harsh vocals, but the combination of heavy music and soft vocals is probably my favorite aspect of Spiritbox's sound. I'm really impressed by Courtney's restraint in keeping her voice measured and calm even as the intensity of the music ramps up.

    This one take was her fourth take. It’s still impressive, but doing what she does is not easy to do several takes of.
    Courtney’s clean voice is very ethereal while her primary harsh voice is a tonal style (whereas vocalists like Tatiana of thd band Jinjer or Chaney Crabb of Entheos use primarily a non-tonal, which sounds lower but has minimal movement), and she draws on a lot of inspiration outside of the metal world. A perfect example of this is the song Rotoscope. She and Mike also did a collab with Megan Thee Stallion, which is crazy.

    Sorry I missed the live stream, I was at work as usual. Pitched screaming is totally a thing. Devin Townsend is the master at it, though there are many others who do it and do it masterfully as well. I remember hearing that for the first time in one of Devy's songs (I actually don't remember what it was now) and thinking "OMG, this man is screaming a melody!".

    Hi Christie I missed this live with you. Is your next Saturday reaction will be live ? I wish that it will be because I have been only on one that was live and I did chat with you but several months ago but the other reactions following that one we'rent live until this one again which I think your subscribers would agree it's so much better when we get to chat with you instead of when you don't chat with us when you react to a song. Recommending Ayreon - March Of The Machines / Age Of Shadows (01011001 - Live Beneath The Waves) with Brittany Hayes (Slayes) from Unleash the Archers - absolutely amazing, and any performance from Sydnie Christmas from BGT - (She has been added to my greatest Female singers). Love all of these reactions. Sending my best to everyone. ❤

    If you like this kind of stuff, you should check out a band called “the anchor“ and the lead singer Lindsay Ray.

    If you enjoy how she blends the sounds you'd probably also enjoy Sam Carter from Architects, though I don't think he has ever done any of these cool live one take videos. Royal Beggars springs to mind as a personal favourite in terms of his voice. They have also collaborated on a song, Yellowjacket.

    And if you had a vote we would vote for you to chat with us instead. And I wish like other TH-cam live videos your live chat would be at least a hour or two so we could spend some more time with you but I guess it might depend on your schedule to it that way. And Christie I'm the one that gave you nightwishs sister band wintersun suggestions 2 months ago for wintersun sons of winter and stars 1.5 official lyric video but could you give me a update when you have a time frame when you will analyize and deconstruct this suggestion. Please send me back a reply. Thank you so much. Much love for the voice love co. Wintersun Alex ❄️👋❤️🌹

    This is irrelevant but is it just me or is this lady a beautiful older woman? I'm not into older women like that but she knows how to stay gorgeous despite age. I hope my wife looks that good at her age! 😮

    Well okay. First of all the "good old days" were never as good as people remember. Sabastian Bach has/had bad nights and mistakes too just like every singer in the history of singers. I don't buy for a second he hasn't. One thing he didn't have in the 80s and 90s were people with cell phones filming him when he did screw up and then post the video on Facebook to tell everyone that that's what he "really" sounds like.
    Secondly "autotune" is a program made by a company called Antares and though it was used a lot when it came out it isn't used as much as you think. At least not for anything that isn't an obvious effect. Those automatic pitch correction tools produce artifacts, have a lot of latency because they have to take the time to determine pitch before it ever even starts to work which is why they warble so much at extreme settings. Most producers have moved on from automatic tools like that for serious work and do spot edits of vocals.
    The use of those spot editing tools does not necessarily mean the singer can't really sing. In many more cases than people think those tools are used because producers in 2024 would prefer to limit the singer to only a few takes and if one or two notes need to be corrected they do it rather than wear the singers voice out doing take after take and not just to get perfect vocals but if they decide a note needs to go up instead of down or the inverse or some other creative thing needs to change. these tools are also used to quiet breaths that are too loud or a slight timing issue that is not worth a take along with the studio time to correct with another take or punch in. In fact the creative fine tuning of the vocal is what takes are mostly done for now and a "one take" in this context is rarely done for a song that hasn't already gone through the entire creative process and had an official version released which this song has.
    As you know it's not a guitar. You can't play it all day long to get it right and recording budgets aren't what they once were. I am willing to bet Courtney and Tatiana from Jinjer have had this done from time to time in fact I know for a fact they have. That doesn't mean they "can't really sing". I'm not for a singer using these things as a crutch (I know some do) but just automatically assuming that if they do use the tools they can't "really sing" just isn't correct. All this argument about "autotune" vs "real singers" does nothing but create unreasonable expectations of singers which frankly is what created "autotune" in the first place not people who couldn't sing but wanted the fame. BTW Sabastian Bach is known for his attitude problems in particular his view on technology.
    Todays listening standards are far higher and if a singer manages to do a perfect performance in one take they are accused of using something to tune their voice because nobody buys it now. They don't buy it in part because people exaggerate how much it's used, where it's used and who uses it without a shred of evidence. if a singer sings a wrong note in a live video they are absolutely killed in social media and the claim is they "can't really sing". As you might have guessed by my reply as someone who was a professional musician and sound engineer for 20 years this is a sore spot with me..

    Djint sounds like something pretentious that someone just made up, never heard of this in like 20 years of metal. Also kind of a weird justification for a genre, why would a guitar sound need its own genre.

    • @coder4liberty
      @coder4liberty 10 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      today metal has probably 30+ genres some of them with one band in them and most of them are marketing but some metal heads treat them like their church and everything else sucks to them. It's pretty ridiculous.
