The AS Val is a Soviet carbine designed with an integrated suppressor, meaning a suppressor is built into the gun. If you don’t know what a suppressor is, it’s a muzzle system designed to pitch down the noise of your weapon, but is still able to be heard from the next room. It was specifically designed for those who don’t want to bother with hearing aids or whatnot. It was designed with the designated marksman rifle, VSS Vintorez to replace modified general purpose fire arms, like a couple of AK’s and some pistols. These rifles are designed for covert operations that not even the general public will know about. Ever heard of DEVGRU, Delta Force, and ISA redacting the faces of dogs? Well basically like that but more effective. Suppressors also hide muzzle flash, reducing the enemy’s possibility of seeing you and shooting back. What makes the AS Val cool, aside from a integrated suppressor, is the fact that it is chambered in a subsonic round called 9x39mm. Don’t you notice how almost every Russian caliber ends with “ x39 “? We get it Russia; you guys are flexing at Americans about your cartridge and weapons being better than .223 and our AR15 and M16/M4. The difference between the AS Val and the VSS Vintorez is that the VSS Vintorez is for longer ranges, versus the AS Val which could probably only shoot 400 feet away. The AS Val and VSS are very similar to an AK type rifle, with a charging handle on the right side, a safety lever on the right side, a magazine release behind the mag well. The action (aka the thing that makes full auto easier to handle) is also similar to an AK, with a rotating bolt, long stroke gas system. You can use 10 or 20 round magazines or the SR-3M’s 30 round magazines. This gun is not only fairly easy to use because it’s basically a pimped-out AK, but you can also detach this really easily, in case you wanted to fit it in a case. What is the 9x39mm caliber constructed of? It’s like a Frankenstein that was actually useful and not so scary. They have the cap of a 9x19mm Parabellum round, used mainly in SMG’s and pistols, and basically glued it to a 7.62x39mm round, and for those who aren’t aware, that is the same caliber the AK47 shoots. So if you wanted to be a badass, a secret communist, a guy who thinks FPSRussia should get his guns back, I think I’ve got the gun for you, and it’s not an AK47.
