Thanks a lot for posting this video. I am from Limerick and have navigated the Shannon from Killaloe to Keshkarrigan but never had the opportunity to come from Anrdacrusha to the City. It all looked rather calm with the exception of Matthew & Sylvester O'Halloran bridges where it looked like the current got a bit stronger. Its a a totally under used piece of the river. Thanks again.
You fellows are all rich!! We used to watch the boats when we were Kids. Although I did have a Rubber Dingy when I was a Kid. And I took my friends on "long Cruises" at Corbally "millions of years ago" in the late 1940's and the early 1950's. If there's anyone in that age group reading this comment, did you know my older Brother: Helmi Kniebe? He went to Corbally frequently.
Amazing video, thanks for sharing. That is my family house perched beside Mathew Bridge. We used to take the exact same journey with my father when we were kids
Hi John, There was only one turbine running when we exited the lock, but a second had kicked in by the time we had go to Limerick. Later in the day a third was started and the flow increased yet again, but all boats were safely moored by then. For the last few years it has been virtually impossible to moor there due to silt build up in the marina, but now WI have dredged it (and are committed to keeping it clear) there will be a lot more traffic I am sure. thanks, B
No problem - I did wonder if it was just a way of saying things rather than something to be taken literally. I am glad it brought back some happy memories!
Hardly rich! I choose what to spend my money on, the same as anybody can - I don't drink much, I don't smoke and I don't keep buying things just because there is a 'latest one' My boating costs are no more than most people spend on their annual holidays, and I use my boat for my holidays.
+andrew mockler Hi Andrew,Yes, you are correct - but visibility was good and there is a nasty concrete slipway for a boat club nearby that would make it more risky to use the correct arch when there are turbines running :-)
