Wow! This is so cool. I rode this train on the Holiday Express at Christmas time. I loved it. I sure would like to ride on trains more often. I just rode Amtrak from PDX to SEA for the first time. I loved it too.
Absolutely amazing!! Well done. The SP 4449's are a beautiful American locomotive and one of my favorite overseas engines. Keep up the fantastic work! Dan
such a great locomotive, second favorite next tot he big boy.glad to see it back in daylight colors because i hated seeing just one color for such a beautiful engine
This one's for TrueKillerAce. The steam blowing out sideways is coming out of the cylinder cocks. The engineer has to do this to get rid of any "liquid" water in the cylinders. Water in its liquid form DOES NOT COMPRESS, steam does, and the result would be a blown out cylinder head or a damaged piston. Very expensive to fix as well as sidelining the whole engine. The steam coming out is hot and could burn you if you are too close.
@rscapefreak Oregon Rail Heritage Foundation is now very busy in fulfilling its mission: "to secure a permanent home for the City of Portland's steam locomotives, preserve the Brooklyn Roundhouse, and establish a Rail and Industrial Heritage Museum. the ORHF Board of Directors have been fully engaged in making sure the magnificent SP 4449, SP&S 700 and the OR&N 197 will have a new home we all can be proud to share with others. To do this, however, $3.8 million must be raised by June of 2011
@ervans screw paying 600 dollars for a professional steamcleaner to come to my house!!! I will take my rugs and hang em over the fencing and let this thing go by purging all over them lol. Nice vids man! What a gorgeous machine
Is she burning # 2 oil? Just imagine the fear of hell in someone who had never seen one of these monsters coming down at him with the fury of those exhausts and the dragon breath of the open condensate cocks blasting away. The whistle on this baby is particularly hoary as well. Sheer terror.
No diesel? On other videos people are trying to claim the 4449 is not doing any of the work cuz the diesel is pulling the train. How do they power the cars with no diesel?
ausome vid. ervens! sad to see her on a "bullshit" track .... she needs to run 60 mph+ like she was built to do... owners need to make deals with the main line rr comp. and let her lose! seeing this is like seeing the nuts cut off... lol
Thanks for those beautiful memories...my DAD loved trains working for more than 40 years as a train station master......I love it!!

Nice steamer, great sounds, but Driver has fiber?
Neat video! Why is steam released from lower portion of engine? Little dog was smart to run away. That steam sure looks hot! :)

No diesel? On other videos people are trying to claim the 4449 is not doing any of the work cuz the diesel is pulling the train. How do they power the cars with no diesel?
Here is a another Stupid Question. . . Why does the steam blows off the side???
Correct me if I'm wrong, however, I think it's an effort by the fireman to produce steam at a faster rate.
yea, someone who knows how to bank a fire box, and get decent draw.
see so many of these vids where the smoke is just black
OMG a train burnout XDD
4:00 poor dog :P
