    Looking nice Mike. Very unique view and oversight on protecting a field. Thanks as always for sharing. Question for you though Mike.. i note with the holes in the risers.. that silts will wash into the tile as it drains.. what is the average lifespan of a tile before silt comprimises it?

    • @paulprigge1209
      @paulprigge1209 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Armchair quarterback here.The lifespan depends on the soil but from 10 years to 30 years. Hopefully Mike will give you a better answer but that gives you an idea. Pretty pricey this year.

    • @HootMaRoot
      @HootMaRoot 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Not sure in America but even some of the 100+ year old tile in the UK still runs water, and that is just 1 foot sections of clay pipe out end to end. As long as there is heavy water flow along the pipe to help wash it out now and again and maybe water jetted if running slow I would think it should be good for at least 50 years if the plastic lasts that long

    DP question for you, the pipe going to the river, if the water rises, will it backflow into the pipe and cause any issues?

    • @reddog376
      @reddog376 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is a good question. I think if the river comes up it will prevent water to flow. The higher the river the higher the water will be in the pipe. The pipe is like a coverd creek that feeds a river. When the river comes up so does the creek but this creek is covered, it will be full though do to no where to go.

    The numbers involved with this process show it's worth. If the farmer picked up five more acres of plantable land that produces 200 bushels per acre of corn which is at $7.00 right now he gains $7,000.00 more corn in that field. More probably the gain in this field is closer to ten acres (hard to survey by video). That's every year you farm too.
