Just wrote a long reply to this but unfortunately it disappeared so I will try again. You missed the bombing of Rotherham Clifton Park when the Germans mistook the tents used for the miners gala as army tents. My grandad was an air raid warden and was stood outside of the family Anderson shelter and witnessed it when a lump of red hot shrapnel narrowly missed his head. We kept this as a souvenir but unfortunately it has gone missing. In the 1970’s I worked for Marks and Spencer as a warehouse man and was told by the manager of the Fargate branch that when they came in early morning the shoes would be scattered around the floor. The motion detectors would go off and he had to go in regularly to find this but forbade the staff to talk about it so as not to cause panic. I also spoke to the rentakill man who put rat traps in the cellar. He thought a man in 1940’s clothes was spying on him and said don’t you trust me but no one knew who anything about it. He refused point blank to go in the cellar again. It seems that the branch was built on top of a bombed building where several bodies were never recovered from the blitz. This is something that you could investigate.
