"The East Is Red" is a song that was the de facto national anthem of the People's Republic of China during the Cultural Revolution in the 1960s. The lyrics of the song were attributed to Li Youyuan (李有源), a farmer from northern Shaanxi, and the melody was derived from a local folk song. He allegedly got his inspiration upon seeing the rising sun in the morning of a sunny day.

Brother Hao isn't from China, he studied there and learned the language. He's never been to a re-education camp, his love of China and the Chinese Communist Party has come from his own lived experiences.
I do not deny that there are harsh conditions and suppression in the PRC. I think these things exist in all nations to different degrees. While I might have criticism of how the modern PRC handles itself, when things are put in a wider context, I don't see China as a unique evil or anything incredibly different to things my own country does. In fact, some things China seems much more progressive on. I'm not some "brainwashed sheep" blindly following China and the PRC. I look at the situation, assess it, and form my own opinion. And it's pretty clear to see that the narrative we're all sold on the issue is incredibly biased-- the west doesn't care about people, they care about their interests and the interests of Capital. They just play the game of human rights when it works best for them.
