When I saw Sinbad and Benimaru next to Gojo in the context of "the strongest" character, I immediately clicked. But the big difference with Gojo, Sinbad and Benimaru is that the first 2 were not actually the strongest, or needed time, resources and planning to achieve the honored one status. He failed once massively and he took every lesson learned and repeated none while doing it again. First dungeon conquerer, most dungeons conquered, birth felt by the world, power on par of the ancient magi. Bro got beat by plot
One of my favorite characters, Accelerator, is pretty much a deconstruction of both the redeemed villian->hero and "the strongest" archetype rolled into one. His character arc for a majority of the series explores both what it means to be the strongest/be powerful, and also what the purpose behind his power is as he seeks atonement/path to being "good", and his thought process and how he deals with the latter is incredible to me. He went from one of my most hated characters in series to one of my favorites of all time. Its in contrast to one of the other main characters, Touma, who is effectively the underdog in most fights, and his character explores what it means to be heroic just as acceleraor does, but they come from very different places and start out at very different strengths. Touma is always an uphill battle(people say he has the cheat code to most verses; he does, but its also clear in 90% of his fights that hes the underdog), starting out for everyone but himself, Accelerator is almost always stronger, and starts out doing everything for no one but himself. Its one of my favorite contrasts and parralells in fiction, and the whole strongest thing being both similar and different fron the underdog cements touma and accelerator as top 10 for their respective archetype. Accelerator doesnt serve just as the strongest esper, but what it means to be trapped in your strength, and how redeeming sin isnt any different or easier simply because you have more of something, nor is finding purpose. I think that "the strongest" serving as a parallel or contrast to the mc is one of the best ways to create a good overpowered character, alongside a benchmark of the top like what you mentioned for gojo also being a good way to create a compellinh op character. Fates Gilgamesh was the first anime character ive seen that portrayed the lonliness at the top, and I really enjoy seeing how that lonliness playes out for different characters, gilgamesh, gojo, aizen, ect, they all have different forms of it, a fall from what you see as grace, an inherint difference from the start, a chosen lonliness, ect.
This is why I love Nasuverse, there *SO* many random side characters who are just much stronger than the MC hiding in the background, like Zelrecth, ORT, Chaos, and so on.
Interestingly enough, while I enjoy OP Side Characters, OP Main Characters I rarely enjoy, but when I do the series becomes my favorite. Good Examples are One-Punch Man and The Daily Life of the Immortal King. I think part of why I love these is because the narrative focuses more on the growth and struggles of the side-characters, using the main character as a threshold instead -- but also have the main character grow, slowly but surely, in terms of their personality. Mob Psycho is another great example.

Haha yes I actually do have one. It’s called Nhattylite Media and I decided to keep that channel focused on more martial arts anime while I experimented with video essays and editing techniques here
just to correct you the term is actually "overpowered supporting character" they wouldnt be side characters because the story will follow them to show the heights the main character needs to achieve also, they almost always support the actual main character grow example: kenpachi helped ichigo grow, there are instances for an example escanor wasnt helping meliodas become more powerful because he already was strong but when he lost control escanor stepped up to bring him back down but i also see escanor as a psudo main character and not a supporting character like lets say merlin
Makes me also think of Lance from Pokémon Silver/Gold. Ive always had a soft spot for him since my young self thought he was so cool for just bursting on the scene and messing up team rocket
Benimaru respect always appreciated. To this day haven’t seen a character be so strong that the people couldn’t imagine his strength to the max. Imagination knows no bounds and the copy couldn’t match the original still.
This video is very well put together, could you make a character analysis on (zoro one piece) (crow deadman wonderland) (guts berserk) (kenpachi bleach) (gon/killua hunter x hunter) I'm curious on what your opinions would be on each character :)

thew problem with gojo in the end is that gege akutami is an incompetent writer, and his character is just a bump in the road, as is takamura in sakamoto days. Idk why but we are seeing a lot of mangas that managed to create something original, and then ruined it because their mangaka could not for the love of god segway this originality in a plot that made sense in a shonen. JJK falls back into the haki pitfall, where gojo is theoretically and practically invincible and he loses because mu-uh sukuna cut. Chainsaw man entire world is concentrated in 5 characters that are just becoming weirder and weirder, you could ignore the suspension of disbelief in the first part in which the writing was actually top tier. Sakamoto days throws away a fan loved plot device that could be used in a million ways because he could not fit anymore in the narrative that dictates that our protagonists are the actual top tier fighters. Fucks sake, I'm just glad we got stuff like frieren, to you, paladin, dan dan dan and jigokuraku because here everyone that has a bit of success with their first season tries to go for the long one piece run and fails completely. Just fucking outline your story, write it and move on instead of tanking the quality with every release.
Would've appreciated it more if you'd put Yuichi Jin from World Trigger. Such a GOATED overpowered character that can see the future. I believe him and Sinbad overlaps Benimaru and Gojo in terms of writing. Their weakness and greatness are perfectly blended to make the story more compelling.
Ngl, all might revived my interest in anime after years of beinf stuck in corporate hell. Got tired of the edgy teens previously, now I know how people felt when superman came out. Sometimes we just need an inspiration to move forward.
i agree with what you said for the most part in this video. the only thing i'd like to add is that you need to be very careful with how powerful you make your character. you also need to know exactly what you want to do with them otherwise sidelining them from the story can come across as you rushing to get them out of the way because you made a character too op and had no idea what to do with them. gojo suffers from this problem. not only did he get sealed pretty early on in the story but greg made him too op. so op that it was complete bs the way sukuna won because the author couldn't actually come up with a creative and believable way for him to win. btw your editing is peak.
You hit the nail on the head! I think gege has mentioned that the story was too difficult to write with Gojo in it. It definitely does take a lot of forethought when writing this type of character in the story. Thank you very much for the compliment!! I spent a lot of time watching tutorials and it took ages to clip everything together
@@thelazygeniusYT i have a few characters who embody the "strongest" archetype across multiple stories i haven't finished but they each have struggles that come from either their own trauma that ironically stemmed from them not being strong enough to change something when they needed strength and power the most at a given time in their lives or fighting against a system they can't be changed conventionally despite basically having the power of a god. i'm tired of people acting like having an overpowered side character who isn't the main focus of the story can only end with them being sealed/killed off in lame and predictably contrived ways.

Thank you for your support 🙏! It means the absolute world to me. I’ll work hard to keep coming out with good videos
Do you have a main channel this is really good for a first video
Haha yes I actually do have one. It’s called Nhattylite Media and I decided to keep that channel focused on more martial arts anime while I experimented with video essays and editing techniques here
@@thelazygeniusYThow is yujiro not on this list
Damn this is a good video!
Thank you for the compliment I really appreciate it!!
Amazing video.
We need a New Magi Season and a new season for No Game No Life.....and good video btw.
Great video. Always love to see my boy Sinbad getting some love.
Also, what’s the anime @0:27?
The best op character is Accelerator. Especially in books.
Good video ;)
SUOH MIKOTO MENTIONED WHAT THE FUCK IS A BAD CHARACTER MOYASE
SINBAD GOAT
just to correct you the term is actually "overpowered supporting character" they wouldnt be side characters because the story will follow them to show the heights the main character needs to achieve also, they almost always support the actual main character grow example: kenpachi helped ichigo grow, there are instances for an example escanor wasnt helping meliodas become more powerful because he already was strong but when he lost control escanor stepped up to bring him back down but i also see escanor as a psudo main character and not a supporting character like lets say merlin
Nah him one shotting his doppelgänger was crazy. I’ve never seen someone with that much aura
This video is very well put together, could you make a character analysis on (zoro one piece) (crow deadman wonderland) (guts berserk) (kenpachi bleach) (gon/killua hunter x hunter) I'm curious on what your opinions would be on each character :)
Adult OG Ben 10 was my first encounter with something similar to this type of character, despite his flaws though👍

When i saw Atem from yugioh
Man that was some nostalgia
When i was a little kid i was obsessed with him being the strongest😂
thew problem with gojo in the end is that gege akutami is an incompetent writer, and his character is just a bump in the road, as is takamura in sakamoto days.
What anime is that @1:15 (the guy on the couch)? I vaguely remember this scene but can't remember the name of the show. 1:16
Just saw that you're new in youtube. Great video btw I loved it, I'm trying to write a novel of my own and this really helps a lot. More luck to you.
Sinbad has been and always will be MY GOAT!!!! MAGI CLEARS!!!!
i think it would be nice for the videos to have some kind of background music
DAMN XANXUS. I never expected to see xanxus. A KHR fan. RESPECT.
Hah only the OGs know. Xanxus and Hibari where the goats
A great first video maybe add some background music and you’ll start growing in no time
Thank you for the advice!! Haha ik it seems like music is what’s needed to get to the next level.

@@thelazygeniusYT i have a few characters who embody the "strongest" archetype across multiple stories i haven't finished but they each have struggles that come from either their own trauma that ironically stemmed from them not being strong enough to change something when they needed strength and power the most at a given time in their lives or fighting against a system they can't be changed conventionally despite basically having the power of a god. i'm tired of people acting like having an overpowered side character who isn't the main focus of the story can only end with them being sealed/killed off in lame and predictably contrived ways.
anime name 0:26 please i just cant remember it ive seen it but man i cant remember
What show was at 1:11?
Zom 100
I'd also put Yami from Black Clover here.
thx for not putting yuujirou hanma on this because he make baki anime not that fun just because he is so strong that whenever he appear it aint fun because we knew is over in one tap.
Haha np. Yeah I like Baki but yujiro definitely falls more into the “repetitive” type of character trope
Anime at 0:26 ?
No Yujiro Hanma mention?
Seeing all these Magi fans coalescing together in the comments is heartwarming... Magi: The Adventure of Sinbad was one of my first anime and the first one whose plot I still remember today. In hindsight... maybe not the best thing for me to have watched as a very young child buttttt oh well Sinbad's worth it 💪
What anime is the one at 0:25 ?
Saw Sinbad and clicked
he is the strongest because he's satoru gojo
who is the guy in white with a lightsaber
What about Buddha from record of Ragnarök??? he is laterally stated to be the honored one by other characters!!!!! he is also based off the Buddhist god Buddha who invented the line "throughout heaven and earth, I alone am the honored one"
u cooked on this one
Thank you for the kind words 🙏🔥
Thanks for xanxus at 2:25😭
Love that character
I ACTUALLY FUCKING YELPED WHEN I SAW XANXUS REBORN IS MY FAVORITE SHOW OF ALL TIME
This guy: people like op characters because of deep psychological reasons and escapism from harsh reality
Me: haha strong guy is cool and strong :)
Quality on the vid was so high I thought u had like 50k subs 😭😭 53 subs is crazy
Man thank you so much. You have no idea how a comment like this has totally made my week. We all gotta start from somewhere tho lol
great vid but what anime is that clip from 0:30?
The Eminence in Shadow!
Does anyone know who the guy from 2:26 is and what anime is he from
Hey that’s Xanxus from Hitman reborn!
I wish you didnt spoil so many mangas without warning.
My apologies. I tried not to mention anything post shibuya and ik Fire Force and Magi have been finished for a while so I thought it’d be fine. Going forward I will make sure to have spoiler warnings
bro please use backround music
I definitely will moving forward. I appreciate the feedback
I'm starting out as a TH-camr. Why is it important to use background music?

This video made me Realize... _Ichigo_ really is a pretty unique MC for any Shonen Anime.
Contrary to your opinions on OP MC, It's a domain which if well put together does wonders to the Story,
... for ex. ICHIGO just a perfect blend of Struggler+CapCool+vengeance +Duty+Protector+The Ultimate power, but it's all about u realising and being at Harmony with yourself n own power.
The fact sounds cringy but, This is damn true, God is in all of us, we merely need to Realize n accept it.
