    Appreciate your Great video. I've watched many TH-cam videos on the mini and you're the first person who actually did a Wi-Fi speed test at a distance. Everyone else performs their speed test right next to the mini dish and of course they're getting 100 and 200 download speeds.

    Good review but I think you missed one major plus for the mini. You can only get the $ 50-a-month plan with the mini. It's not available with the standard dish. So for those of us using it in a remote area, on a roof but for sporadic use the $50 a month plan makes more sense. I can then buy a wifi router if needed and still be out less money than I would on the $ 150-a-month plan.

    Great review! I would use POE Ethernet cable with POE spliter on the end with barrel connector. That should allow to use just one cable and third party router

    I've seen a few people mention the lack of POE issue...
    It's very common to get POE-to-USBC power splitters with ethernet passthrough (Less than $20)

    just a note, the Mini will not power up on 12 volt power from my RV. I have lithium (13.2 volts) and the Mini would not power up with the 49' cable. I measured 12.7 volts at the end of the cable. I have seen videos on guys that have powered it up on shorter 10' 3rd party cables. I installed a 12volt to 24 volt booster to my lithium battery system and the Mini works great. I average 130-150 mbps.

    Nice video, thank you! But I must disagree with you in one point, WiFi range / speed tests. You have performed the test with the Starlink mini Dishy placed directly on ground and facing you, i.e. in the worst possible scenario, as significant part of the WiFi signal is being blocked or at least greatly attenuated by the ground as well as front panel with Satellite phase array of the mini Dishy. Placing the Dishy a bit higher above ground (at least on chair, table, larger carton box or, preferably, about 2 m / 7 ft tall post) will greatly improve the WiFi signal of the built-in WiFi router, as it is at the bottom of the Dishy and blocked by the top panel. Even having the Dishy facing away from you while still being placed directly on ground will still give you a noticeably better WiFi signal. In conclusion, for the usage in the camp sites, where placing Dishy directly on top of or near the vehicle , under the front windshield or ceiling window, where the location will be more than few meters / ft from the vehicle, placing the Dishy higher above ground and (if posible facing it away from the vehicle as well) should still provide more than sufficient quality / speed of the WiFi signal for multiple devices while using the, built-in router, i.e. without the need to use of the additional router and / or running the extra Ethernet cable. Alternatively, it is also possible to use the new v3 Starlink mesh router with the mini Dishy, from the so far provided info by SpaceX likely even wirelessly.

    • @StarlinkHardware
      @StarlinkHardware  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Good points made. I did just read in the support FAQs that Starlink says the Wifi signal from the Mini is concentrated underneath and to the rear of the antenna. In my setup I was at the front of the dish. So basically, I did the worst case scenario test, and still got respectable Wifi performance at 50 feet. Set up better on a van or house roof (with devices underneath) or the dish facing away from your campsite (ground install), you should get much better performance.

    By comparison, my home internet (Spectrum) speeds are: 4.44 Mbps DL, and 4.53 Mbps UL with 101 ms latency. So, the Starlink out performs my home set-up by a significant amount.

    I have struggled with two different USB-C to DC5521 cables. The first one did not work at all because I did not pay attention to the specs. Got another one that was 100W and I 20V. My Jackery 1000 Plus has a 100W USB-C. But it would work only for a few minutes and then reboot. Over and over. I'll wait for the Starlink USB-C accessory but I know some have gotten a cable to work. What did work for me was using the 10V auto plug on my Jackery, running to a 24V DC booster, and then to a DC 5521 to the dish. Works like a champ. Tested over a couple of days. But I want my USB-C to work someday!!! Open to any hints or suggestions. I bugged Starlink support big time and finally they told me their USB-C to Barrel accessory won't be out until next year:>(

      For flat mounting you just have to adjust the vehicle location to avoid trees. As far as alignment, no adjustment is needed when flat mounting. It has a wide enough field of view to see most of the sky without being properly aligned in the app.

    Hi, Isn't it possible to plug the Starlink Mini directly into one of the DC Output barrel connections on your E600 instead of using the Starling Adapter to plug into the AC output? I do not own one but am considering and I thought that DC connectivity and lower draw was the a major selling point to the Mini. Thanks!

    • @StarlinkHardware
      @StarlinkHardware  หลายเดือนก่อน

      I didn't want to go into all the DC adapter cable options in this video, but yes, you could use the DC outputs to power the Mini. However, from reports online it seems like you can't use the included 50ft DC cable with a 12V source. The cable length causes too much voltage drop, even at 13-14 volts. You can use a shorter cable or add some kind of step up converter if you go this route.

    170mbps is not in the design. it’s a 100. and that’s what you get.
    i do receive between 70 and 94 over the last four days.

    • @h.e.c.
      @h.e.c. หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      That's incorrect, there is no speed limitation to 100 Mbps (or any other speed) by design. The speed is primarily limited (or not if you are in non-congested cell) by the location it's being used as well as the type of the subscription. With the Roam subscription in the busy areas the speeds will be indeed significantly lower (even with normal "full sized" Dishy) compared to using the same mini Dishy in areas with less or no other users or using the Priority subscription.

      @@dakoniart1 Starlink is the only company offering this technology at the moment, and Starlink is now SpaceX’s biggest revenue source. It’s definitely a success as a product and service. It’s hard to describe it as anything else when there is literally no competition at the moment. If you want high speed low latency unlimited internet anywhere on the globe, Starlink is your only choice. How much that is worth to you individually is a valid opinion. But for millions of Starlink users, it’s a small price to pay to be able to be connected anywhere.
