Part of his philosophy is to play and record yourself, slow it down and you can listen back to all your glaring inaccuracies and cry your head off and get to work fixing them. :D
I Gotta Say Gavin Is Quite The Most Talented Prog Pop Drummers Ever Who Makes It Sound So Perfect Every Time Without A Hitch, I Wish I Had As Much Of His Talent In His Pinkie Nail To Make Me Happy 😊🥁 Keep On Keeping On Gavin! 🤙🏼
Gavin uses that down and back up tom sweep a bit. The Live Tilburg version of Anesthitize has an excellent overhead view of how it's done, and it is SLICK! Also, not sure if you mentioned in the clip (maybe I missed it?), but Bonnie is in straight 4 time, even though it sounds a lot more complex due to...well, Gavin Harrison 😄
Great lesson, Nate. Gavin has been a huge inspiration of mine for quite some time. His rhythmic illusions book is incredible. Have you messed with any of his books?
Saw that. Great points. One of my favorite idioms from this is a six stroke roll leading up to the backward tom sweep, as you kinda demonstrated. R llrrll [tom sweep] It's clear you went deep with this. Appreciate the email.
@@8020drummer you’re welcome! Thanks for checking it out and everything you do and the kind words. lol saw your video in bed and jumped to the kit to get my ideas out super rushed, it’s been a while since I’ve really worked on those licks too so I will be getting my idioms in order
@@8020drummerI wish you could have given me a shout on your next Gavin video :( a lot of the ideas you presented in that were what I was showing in the email. No worries, but the shoutout would have probably given me some extra traffic

Wow, I feel complimented! Rim shots are more of an advanced skill! holy shit! I can do rim shots! For real though, you have got to have the most fly-by-wire knowledge of drummers i've ever heard.
Maybe I missed this explanation in the video, but I realized at one point you're doing double bass AND clicking hi hat on the beat. How on earth does that work? Left foot on both pedals?
I'm just playing the doubles with my right foot. It's true Gavin uses a double pedal, and you're right that there is a technique for shifting the foot from the hats to the second kick pedal, though most of the time drummers will either play one or the other.
@@dinsdaleblue you just play two consecutive notes quickly. It’s not that hard, and doesn’t require heel toe or anything fancy. Took me about a year of practice once I realized it was a thing
I'm always down for Gavin Harrison analysis. One of the most musical, dynamic and creative drummers alive today!
What makes Gavin sound amazing is his accuracy. His back beat is the best in the business.
His snare drum has a single dot in the middle. Guy never misses.

Hes fuckin mental
Also he’s from next Town over from where I was born so I’m gonna stick up for him 😂
Oooook now we get to Gavin! Fantastic!

Nice work... Man, for a put together kit those toms sound awesome!
More Gavin please!
He is the tastiest drummer going.
I concur. He’s one of the reasons i picked up drumming
Nice analysis, Nate. The reverse sweep just sounds good.

Nice interpretation ❤
He is probably the best drummer on the planet
Nate what happened to your Zildjians?
I love Porcupine Tree!!!!

As usual, top interesting! Have a great New Year, plenty of good things! Take care, stay warm!
Man, I got to say. I've been watching your channel for a while now and you sound so much smoother around the kit these days!
Something quick and “easy” to try. Thanks for the breakdown 👍🏻
Ah amazing, put Porkupine Tree on today for the first time in a while and here this video is!
Gavin is my current favorite- so tasty.
Great video love Gavin!
Love Gavin!
Gracias

Not sure what that last little clip of you staring at the camera was. Had to laugh though.
Probably an outtake Easter egg my editor put in

Do you heel-toe the KK or do you just have rabbit feet?

@@8020drummer Thanks for replying. Really appreciate it.
Can you stop capitalizing every word in the title for no reason, mate? I have no idea who Tom Sweep it. It's confusing as hell.
Google title case
Maybe Tom Sweep played the backwards Gavin Harrison. 🤣 Tom Sweep would be a pretty cool name.
Lol
Gavin's amazing!! One of my favorite drummers.
