    It is mentally hard to deal with losing strength during a cut

    2 cents on this…
    If you’re doing a 1000 calorie deficit daily (about as aggressive as most people can go without using drugs and without losing lots of muscle) you may need to go 3 weeks on that cycled with 1 week of maintenance calories. If you have a lot of weight to lose and your “cut” lasts longer than 3 to 4 months you may need something like a month of maintenance calories in there to interrupt the long periods of deficit. This will help reset hormones for fat loss and strength. Other tricks that I’ve found useful are making sure your pre workout meal has plenty of carbs (but still balanced), use a strong pre workout powder (if that’s you’re thing), FOCUS on low volume (but heavy) COMPOUND movements while cutting. That means press, squat, deadlift, bench. You can add more but it’s overkill. Excess volume while cutting is a big mistake I’ve made many times. Recovery is at a premium due to lower calories. Your body can take the heavy lifts, but not a lot of volume. Also I have found creatine and leucine supplementation very helpful in maintaining strength on a cut. But the short version is don’t be too aggressive with calorie deficit, but if that’s your thing, be prepared to cycle back to maintenance calories for a period of weeks and then get back into the cut. The big compound lifts are more efficient and more anabolic. Get adequate rest and for the love of god skip the intense cardio. Walking is fine. As much as you want.

    Using creatine during a cut really helps, gives that full muscle look and keeps on strength and recovery.

    Can you do a show on masters bodybuilding-some info for old guys ?
    I’m about to start maps split Feb 1 - plan on doing my first show in July . Masters Classic physique over 55. Look forward to doing split program I’m retired. Have plenty of time to train, diet is dialed in. I’ve been training consistently all my life. I am 5’11”. 194 pounds currently 13 to 14% body fat. I’m 24 weeks out. Plan on cutting slowly hoping to find the Goldilocks zone. Program much different then my 4 day bro split I’ve done for years .

    Can't imagine how this effect must be amplified when you're finished a bulking TREN cycle..

      Eh, might as well keep taking tren at that point. If you're that dedicated, is your ego really gonna let you lose muscle? Disclaimer: know nothing about tren.

    I’ve heard y’all talk about 5x5 but what about the very popular ‘Starting strength’ 5x5 program? Specifically the squats every workout. Would be nice to hear y’all’s opinion of this program

      @@itsaboy213 ?? I don’t think so. I know for Deadlift it’s only 1 set of 5 and you’re increasing by 10 pounds every deadlift work out.
      Let me check the website. I could be wrong.

      @@genzcurmudgeon8037 NP, both programs are pretty similar other than Stronglifts having rows and Starting Strength having power cleans on the non-deadlift days. A variation of 3x5 and 5x5 depending on systemic fatigue got me to a 420 lbs squat in about 18 months so they both work.

    • @genzcurmudgeon8037
      @genzcurmudgeon8037 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@itsaboy213 Yes I like it so far but it’s clear that I’ll have to switch it up because I’m not going to be able to add 10lbs to my deadlift or 15 pounds to my squat every week.
      I’ve never focused entirely on strength before so it’s been a nice change.

    Wonder how much money Sal would lose or gain if he had to truly pay up for all the times he says "I would put money on....."? 😂

    I KNEW THE FIRST GUY THAT ANSWERED THE FIRST QUESTION WAS WRONG, BUT THOUGHT THE SECOND GUY SORRY DON'T KNOW THEIR NAMES, BUT THOUGHT HE HAD IT RIGHT. UNTILL HE KEPT TALKING. THE TRUTH IS THE KID DID'NT GAIN THAT MUCH MUSCLE. HE GAINED FAT. THIS IS WHY MUSCLES LOOKED POOR AND LACKING AND EVEN THO HES LOSING FAT HE STILL LOOKS SOFT. 15 AND 15 GIVE ME A BREAK AT BEST HE GAINED 5 POUNDS OF MUSCLE IF , AND THATS A BIG IF HE DID EVERYTHING RIGHT AND HAD THE PROPER INTENSITY. THE TRUTH IS HE PROBABLY GAINED 1 TO 2 POUNDS OF MUSCLE SO ALL THE SIZE WAS JUST FAT. THATS WHY HE LOOKS SMALL AND SOFT AS HE LEANS DOWN. HES GONNA HAVE TO GET TO ALMOST HIS STARTING WEIGHT TO SEE HIS MUSCLE GAIN. THE ALL IN YOUR HEAD STUFF TYPICALLY PERTAINS TO PEOPLE WITH ALOT MORE EXPERIENCE AND MUSCLE.
