The main choreographer for Monster is Janelle Ginestra. Most of the original choreo was kept but some were modified since they are also singing. You can check it out it's amazing to watch her explain some points of the choreo
the original demo choreo def had an even more aggressive one side vs the other feel, it makes sense they'd change it up for the vocals but I get what Grace is wanting. The tip-toe bit in the chorus I felt like an attempt at putting a creepy ballerina/doll/music box historical element in there like some of Irene's other creepy moves.
Okay, so, the theme it's not simple like just controlling. At the beginning, Seulgi it's the one coming for Irene, it's the first scene...Seulgi gets in and they became 1 body 2 shadows (like the 1st teaser and the first dance move, the creature w/ Irene face and Seulgi controlling), but the thing is, Irene it's not as vulnerable as Seulgi thought and starts taking over the control of the body, still with both of them inside. At the end, the last move it's also the creature, but now we have Seulgi's face and Irene controlling, so Irene took over, but they are still 1 body 2 shadows. That is why in the middle of the song, instead of controlling themed moves, it's more like decalcomanie ones, since they are coexisting in one body, but are still different. -- Theory from KpopJunkee
The versions were based on the composition of the perfume: top note, middle note, base note and it was incorporated mainly on the concept of the album 😊
Yeah, i agree they need to tone the dance down alittle bit to make sure not to tiring them...ahahah i dont know what iam writing anymore...excuse my english cause i dont if i am writing correctly
That lil hand movement fits the lyrics tho, ur just looking at the general story i.e Irene being the puppetmaster or controller. They even said in some interview or such that the hand movement was like casting a spell or smth. Honestly, someone could prolly explain this better 😂 and they’re not just purely dancing, they’re performing.
I really appreciate your critique of the choreo! I also felt that the tippy toe and quickly swishing hand parts wasn’t the best fit. Keep doing you girl, don’t let the hate stop you.
I completely agree. I feel like if they took inspiration from dances from the 19th century and modernized it as well as creating that power dynamic between seulgi and Irene in the choruses, it would've individualized the chorus much more
I agree with what you mean about how the choreo could of embodied the concept a bit more. If you look at the original choreo done by the choreographer they did a good job of capturing that concept but I guess SM didn't want to go all out and drew the choreo back a bit and made it more "tame". Here's a link to it th-cam.com/video/THIBts5Jor8/w-d-xo.html
My favorite parts in this choreo: -That duo part during the first pre chorus -The dancers at the chorus during the "meows" look like cats bouncing their bums up and down -The part in the second chorus where Seulgi misses Irene showing her true monster form -The last chorus -Beginning and End especially the last "i'm a little monster" where Irene is standing and they tilt their heads to the side together
Their choreograph is perfect, every move they did, always slays, because I get goosebumps every time I watch the performance, so it's offensive to me that you said that one part of the dance didn't fit. everything they did was perfect, and also my bad, just had to say it, I get very sensitive when someone says the simplest things about them, because themz ma gurlz, (and also Mamamoo), btw you should do a reaction video to their song called, "dingga", I fell in love with dance right as it premiered on the 20th.
I totally get what you mean! When I first watched the mv I was so entranced with some parts but the chorus seemed a little bit out of place.. Like they could have done something more. Either way it was still a great song (and is probably one of my favs for the year)!
Also, a note about the Red Sun thing, it's also a cultural reference to hypnotism. The hypnotist in pop culture will say "red sun" and it's the "hypnotism" trigger word. Hence the finger/wrist rotation that you'll also find in Dreamcatcher Red Sun choreo video
I feel like the choreo for the chorus was like that to make the drop in the post chorus more memorable. If it were intense and Monster-like the whole time, it'd have been boring. Helps them sing easier too.. The hand fanning move works well because there's irony in the lyric literally saying "be scared of me". It's like "ooh I'm a _little_ monster, I'm cute and harmless (like Camilla the vampire). You'll dream of me and that'll be your destruction" and the little hand sprinkle move -> "cast a spell". It's still a pop song so if they'd have done completely interpretative, there's that risk of things going a little cringe.
Yeah. This reactor is totally reviewing the choreography from an art performance perspective. She's forgetting this is an idol dance and is supposed to be danced by fans and easily digestible by general public. An slightly inappropriate review for the purpose of the dance.
@@imcheezbhui I don't think she's forgetting, more like just reviewing the dance as a dance major. We don't get a lot of reactors who actually can offer a different perspective on things like this-- most dance reactors usually just comment "omg I love that" and not really talk about their own take on it and how they'd want to change the dance if it was them choreographing the routine. It's like the classical musicians react series where they use classical theories to analyze pop songs. So even though I disagree with some of her _edits_ , I still value her opinion cause it's unique only to her.
@@Rhaphidophile i actually think she is. when she said, she didn't like that the member are dancing the same moves in the chorus. i interpret this as she's forgetting about what chorus dances are supposed to be for an idol group. RV takes the verses and bridge to explore the concept in their choreography but they return to idol dance in the chorus as a compromise because they are after all an idol group. and i don't think she understands this compromise.
@@imcheezbhui hmmm actually yeah maybe. But I think she may have also just wanted them to go 100% extra on it since they already were doing the concept anyway? Either way it would've been hella weird if the chorus wasn't kpop lol
I don't think you're wrong. I loved the choreo until I saw the original choreo and i was SAD. But you also have to keep in my mind they're not just dancing, they're singing. It's a whole performance and they had to keep it as simple as they could to not compromise their live singing (but lets be honest RV are queens of live vocals). So with that in mind, I understood the choices they made
Exactly seulgi gives me 2nd generation vibe also her voice is unique for me because it's fuller idk if that makes sense but it's has a heavy vibe to it which is my favourite
keep in mind that they also sing and they sing live.. some of the points were changed from the original choreo with the idea of them to be able to breath and sing. they’re performers, not just dancers so i think the choreo is hard enough as it is compared to other groups. after all their pain point is singing
Hiya :) I never mentioned making the dance more difficult or requiring more energy. I just mentioned making more interesting ideas or choreographic choices that coincide with the concept a little more faithfully. That doesn’t necessarily require making a dance harder. Just pointing out the difference between what I meant by what I was saying and what it was interpreted as.

@@gracegrimms1627 they could've totally changed the choreo without adding too much to do in the chorus, like you said they had a unique concept to work with and they could've even added a little tutting element to reference Naughty.
Have you seen the girls dance in "Be Natural" !? I unironically looked through most of your videos to see if I could spot it, it's honestly one of the most impressive routines I've seen in kpop so far, and I think you'd love it!
There goes another. RED VELVET RELEASED ANOTHER CHOREO VIDEO, NAUGHTY. It would be MUCH MORE ENJOYABLE FOR YOU, I GUESS.(BECAUSE IT IS THE HARDEST DANCE EVER IN KPOP..)
They are performing it’s not just a dance but a story it’s a battle where seulgi is the original master while Irene is the puppet like in vampire diaries when Damon compels his prey it’s the same but in the end Irene out smarts her master compels her with a spell like said in the song which is why that move is used and gains control.
In my opinion they're doing mirrored to each other cause actually they're a one person.. which is irene is the bad side that wanna control of the body... And seulgi is the opposite. And, we as a human couldn't make our bad side disappear but to deal with it and accept it. And if you saw in the beginning, seulgi was in the middle and irene was in the front.. but in the end Irene win and she the one who controls the body now.
Both of them are monsters. They’re both fighting for a vessel. First it was Seulgi dominating and she underestimated Irene and when Irene dominates at the end hahaah! That’s y you first see seulgi controlling irene and the beginning and in the end they switched places
Also I think the choreo for the bridge of their song "sunny side up" would fit the part where irene is behind seulgi in this song 😂😂 i hope you would check that out too!
i think they are controlling eachother. I absolutely agree with you! The choreo is already amazing but it could still be improved if they incorporated much more of the story from the mv! Like something more interpretative using their bodies but that's also just being me 😅😅 This subunit is still superior though
