Openly sharing your thoughts in this genuine and vulnerable way is testament to your courage and security with yourself. As a fellow (but very green clinician), I could feel how important it is to you to be recognized for who you are and your own offerings to the field, rather than being reduced to someone’s spouse. Might I offer some perspectives that came to mind as I watched this: 1)You may have not been attracted to or have fallen in love with Dr. Yalom’s status or fame for the sake of it itself, but I would wager it is likely you fell in love with the traits and way of thinking that made him famous in the first place. Many times, fame does not occur in a vacuum, but because of extraordinary or at least great talent. While you may have not fallen in love with him *for* being famous, you may have fallen in love with him for the insight, thinking, and personality that exist in him regardless of fame, but definitely did also contribute to his fame/notoriety. 2)Your own theories and ideas may get more scrutiny as well as appreciation as a result of this bond. Perhaps that means people’s eyes may not have caught those ideas earlier, but if their eyes stay there, they will stay because of the ideas themselves. Even though the means of seeing them may have been due to or through an association of yours with another person, they can still shine in their own right. I sensed some defensiveness/insecurity around this, so maybe this thought can bring you comfort. 3)While we cannot be blind to the profundity of Dr. Yalom’s presence in the world, his greatness does not take away from your own. Just some thoughts!
This is an amazing self-reflection and presentation of what authenticity is. I wish you several beautiful years in this peace, love and harmony which is so visible on you ❤!
