    I use my big channel locks for the tank and an open-ended wrench for the tip.

    Thanks man, this worked perfect! I was having the toughest time just using channel locks to get a tough enough grip to hold in place. I didn't have a pipe wrench but now that I do, I can keep refilling my canisters myself. You're awesome!

    Thanks man ! The only thing i would add here is that loosening the 10mm relief valve is not necessary in order to remove the top if the gass is already out . I just emptied the bottle by pressing the top valve with a screwdriver to make sure it was totally empty .

    Thank you for you video, watching a different video I was doing the banging method and actually ended up injuring my hands. The pipe wrench is key.

    nice video but one quick question. Why would you bother removing the burst diaphragm? Once you vent the CO2 from the tank, just take the value out as you described.

    The top piece is a 24mm if you want a wrench for it.
    And you don’t need to take the relief valve all the way out, just enough for the gas to escape.

    I like the pipe wrench trick. Every else bangs the wrench connected to the top on the ground.

    • @WorkingHandsMakingStuff

      The pipe wrench should open to at least 2.5 inches. The diameter of the canister is just under that so that would be the smallest size that would work

      @@jameslittle2382 I don't think so. I've never used the newer quick connect as I don't own a machine that requires them. From what I've read, they do have some differences but I'm not sure what those are.

    I just did the fill with dry ice and I was a little disappointed. I bought 2.76 lbs. I got home within 15 minutes and was ready to fill. I filled the first one with 14 ounces and I put the rest of the ice in the second one which was 9 ounces. Somehow I lost nearly half of what I started with. I paid 8 dollars for the ice.

    • @WorkingHandsMakingStuff
      @WorkingHandsMakingStuff  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It definitely sublimated fast. Especially in the summer. I use a cooler to bring the dry ice home to try to minimize the loss

      @@WorkingHandsMakingStuff I am going to see if I can get them to order pellets next time I need to refill. I agree that pulverizing the chunks probably is a big part of the loss. 5 dollars is better than 15 or 20 though.

    How old were your canisters in this video.....Methinks they ahve done something to newer canisters because my old 130L and 60L from a couple years opened no issued by attaching the wrench and banging it on the ground a couple times. However newer tanks I got in 2019 would not budge no matter what I used from a pipe wrench to banging on ground. As I do not have a vice grip so I can whack a breaker bar with a hammer, I'm at a loss. I figure i could use an impact wrench with the right deep socket.

    • @WorkingHandsMakingStuff
      @WorkingHandsMakingStuff  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The one on the right, the white one, has a 2011 stamped on the bottle. I bought it used from Craigslist. The one on the left, the blue one, is correctly in my machine so I can't see a stamp on it but that one came with my soda stream that I purchased earlier this year so I don't it's older than 2019. That blue one was opened, for the first time, in this video.
      I think the hardest part is finding a way to hold the bottle as you apply torque. Maybe try clamping it down to a workbench?

      I've heard of some people using an oil filter wrench. I assume it's the one with the adjustable strap but either way, the oil filter wrench grabs on the cylinder body and the other wrench on the outlet and push opposite directions, maybe even tap the wrench with a hammer for "impact."

    You don’t have to take the pressure relief screw all the way out just enough to let the air escape.

    • @WorkingHandsMakingStuff
      @WorkingHandsMakingStuff  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You can depress the top button carefully to verify most of the gas is out. Then when you crack open the safety valve on the side the rest of the gas will escape.

      I'll try to find a photo to post a link as I probably won't be refilling a tank for a couple of weeks.
      Ok if you check this link www.eurekamagazine.co.uk/design-engineering-features/technology/rupture-relief-in-small-systems/143293/ you'll see the image with the bump pointed up. In the sodastreams tanks this raised bump goes away from the tanks (out).

    I have 2 full but very old cylinders. How can I safely empty them so I can exchange?

    • @WorkingHandsMakingStuff
      @WorkingHandsMakingStuff  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I honestly don't know if any safe way to empty them. The safest I can think of would be to slightly loosen the blow off valve (the small one in the side and let it leak out slowly. Again, slightly loosen. Do not try to pull it completely out on a full tank.

      @@WorkingHandsMakingStuff I stuck a chopstick in the top and slowly released the gas outside for about 20 min. Canister gets cold so I had to stop multiple times. Now I can send it in for replacement. These are original canisters likely more than 10 years old. Let me ask this while I am here. The early canisters contained low quality gas that made the water taste terrible. I recently bought an updated unit and the new canisters are so much better. I wonder if the quality of Dry Ice is such that it does not impart taste to the water. How does the water taste after infusion from one of your refilled canisters?

      @@iamintractable1805 I find that the water tastes fine. I don't notice any off flavors, but I also make sure to only use filled water because the tap water where I live tastes terrible

    Any particular reason to remove the blowoff valve all the way?

    • @WorkingHandsMakingStuff
      @WorkingHandsMakingStuff  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can probably just loosen it till it lets all the gas out but I worry that the rupture disk will block the valve and not completely empty. Removing it guarantees that won't happen.
