    What a fantastic example of recycling and creating a food forest for poultry. Ewa and Seb you guys have done a wonderful job this is one of the best poultry pens I have seen! Thanks for sharing :)

    LOVE the Victa lawnmower grass catcher as the nesting box. It's so wonderful to see another Aussie doing this with chicken feed. We've always done that, it's the most logical way to feed them and give them as close to a natural habitat as possible while in the coop and run. Nicely done guys!
    Side note: The cockatoos went screaming overhead yesterday, shrieking at everyone as they do and all the wild birds did the same - then we saw it, the biggest sea eagle we've ever seen was in too close for comfort, checking out the backyard chickens. So important to have that overhead netting - commercial grade.
    I just subscribed to your channel.
    Cheers,
    Wendy Xx

    That's how chickens should live... I mean the best way for the chickens is to buy a big (1km*2 or 2km*2) plot of a forest-plains and then build big fences around it like a sanctuary. That will be heaven for them.
    But compared to other chicken farms this is way way better.(your farm)

    thats really cool what your doing. those ladies look really happy.
    do you have problems with predators? im concerned about mongoose because they are a real threat to foal in Hawaii.
    also, do you rotate the birds to fresher food forests? im concerned that they would quickly strip it bare to the ground.

      Thank you Rufo! No, we don't have mongoose. We have few predators like snakes or hawks and eagles. That is why the young fowls are locked up. The adults are mostly fine.
      The food forest works great. The fowls are going out of there when they are older and the few other birds are not able to destroy it. I will make an update about the food forest soon :) Take care! Cheers!

    Amazing project!!! But I recomend to use quails instead chickens.

    • @hydrolito

      Don't quail lay small eggs? What's the advantage with quail?

    • @favoritos2420

      @@hydrolito Bigger animals requires bigger areas, what is hard to some people have. But on small garden quails or guinea pigs could live. But quails produces hight quality eggs and guinea pigs don't. Small is better.

    How big is the area and how many birds does it provide for?

    • @PermacultureHaven
      @PermacultureHaven  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you have an area at about 10m x 10m, it can provide for about 15 birds with greens. It is good to have two of these food forests so you can move the birds from time to time to make sure they don't run out of greens :) Our birds are also still getting some grains additional to what they find in the food forest.

      Food Forest Cookery ah ok, so its more like a food forest paddock that you rotate the bird through? Currently we let our 14 chickens free range the whole yard, but maybe Ill make an “island” for them that they get to visit every now and then.

    • @PermacultureHaven
      @PermacultureHaven  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, we have actually three of these now as rotate two lots of chickens between them. We don't let the chickens free range anymore as they love the roots of my valuable trees too much! They are happy and healthy in the food forest and they are also more safe than outside :) Good luck with your project!

      Food Forest Cookery Nie widziałem powiadomienia o odpowiedzi :) Tak myślałem! Fantastycznie zobaczyć rodaka za granicą tworzącego leśny ogrod. Sam mam zamiar niedługo rozpocząć przygodę z leśnym ogrodem. Mam około 1100m2, na których chce umieścić leśny ogrod, łączkę, hodować kaczki, króliki może gęsi... Zobaczymy jak to będzie :)
