Fun fact. Eggman actually does care for Metal but in a greatest creation way. He's the only robot Eggman is willing to go out of his way to repair when damaged, most of the others he simply replaces, because Metal is so advanced it is easier to repair him them to replace him. When comes to what's important to Eggman the order goes 1: Eggman himself. 2: Whatever the current scheme is. 3: Metal Sonic.

And Metal just decides he'd rather continue being Eggman's little pet instead of finally being free to do his own thing by going straight back to the doc (which Sonic angrily calls him out on)......while Mecha Sonic (who had no personality to begin with) is the one who gets character development and redemption. Thanks for that IDW!
@@robonaughtIf you took the information from the comics, then it seems logical to me that Metal decided to return to the doctor. He also has obedience programs. And if not, then Dr. Robotnik continues to take care of him, even after all the defeats, even after the betrayal, he is not completely indifferent to him. And I think Metal hates Sonic as much as Eggman does. After so many years of enmity, you can't become friends overnight.
I personally think idw wants to go long term with metal. They have had alot of moments of build up on him and moments of a eventual devolvement. And with his latest defeat I think we might get it soon

I do not understand to this very day why they decided to give this arc to Mecha considering Mecha had like no personality whatsoever. Yeah he was cool but he had no personality when in comparison to Metal who has always had slight hints of having a personality and potential to become good.
The comic hasn't been updated since 2021 with no signs it'll be continued and the artist has just disappeared off the face of the earth. I doubt this will ever be finished
I like this concept, he always wanted to be a better sonic then sonic in general, and tried to take the easy way out and just kill him, but even then being a better sonic than the man himself, would mean he wouldn’t kill at all, so what else could he do if he still retains the goal of being better, but not being a sonic, but being his own better sonic, sound more confusing when your read it but you might get it eventually

He copies his deeds and becomes a hero on his own. When Sonic dies from natural causes or other circumstances, Metal now adopts Sonic's mantle to ensure the legend of Sonic the Hedgehog remains unbroken. Metal Sonic is NOT Sonic's replacement, he becomes the SUCCESSOR to Sonic.
The reason Metal Sonic can’t beat the real Sonic is because it’s the rarest 1v1; he’s being ganged up on most of the time. Metal can win if it was just him as shown in the OVA anime movie.
