@furcifur3 "Can't stand the tone either." The tone McLaughlin is using is more geared towards Smooth Jazz, with the clean tone and chorus and all, but not for gutsy Blues. It's a great tone for conveying speed, but maybe questionable to some for the context of this tune. Perhaps it would have served McLaughlin better to use his distorted Rock tone instead. I myself prefer this jazzy tone, depending on the song.
@TheTranslator100 I'm not sure there is an "authentic" blues feel. It's in emotion for me. I just don't get the emotion out of this. I've seen BB and BG live. Both are astounding. This just sort of drags for me. Can't stand the tone either.
@pjjmsn "Has that ugly sour guitar tone" I think your ears are sour, get some Murine ear wax removal. That's a pretty clean tone with a little chorus, that's enhanced even more by an archtop model guitar.. At best, it could be that his dissonant approach to playing the Blues style is what sounds ugly to you, not his tone. Then, it all balls down to musical taste. Unlike most sporting events where everything is clear cut, music is a bunch of subjective crap.
McLaughlin has a very bad tone... in fact he's got no signature tone, plus he's extremely sloppy... personally I think he believes he can't get any better.. his primary problem, thinking he's the best, when we all know he plays technically but without true feeling for the music.
What a stupid reply, because how do you know what he's "feeling" when he's playing? These tired old cliches about playing with feeling are way overused. And he's not "sloppy". Where did all these people come from that think everyone is sloppy nowadays? Music isn't about perfection. Imperfections are allowed and it's okay.
Yeah I'm here to tear into " how bad McLaughlin's tone is" Oh,and he's sloppy though we all know he's technical and plays with complete disregard for the music. 😂😂😂😂😂 I'm being 1000% sarcastic! Music "opinions" that seem to describe something other than the video here!¿ John McLaughlin is not your typical guitarist. He's original and in fact has had THIS tone since the middle 80'. He isn't going to to bring back his Mahavishnu 70's tone just for shallow music fans like your selves.
Has that ugly sour guitar tone. As guitar players know, when you have a bad tone it doesn't matter how great you play, it doesn´t sound good. And wiht a great tone, you may not play the great, and it still sounds good. He should avail himself this luxury instead of handicapping himself.
McLaughlin's one of the best guitarists ever and that tone is fantastic he's otherworldly
agreed
Love the way these guys listen to each other and react accordingly.

For Richard J Hancox - a birthday present from me.

@furcifur3 "I'm just not feeling any soul in this."
Naw dude, just listen to BB King or Buddy guy if you're looking for that "authentic" Blues feel.
