I'm watching this in *2024*. can't believe it's been 10 years. I've loved this video so much. grasped every single detail by watching it for once. Thank you so much. Regretting not having found this video in the start of my second year. But thanking God that I found this before my exams. Pretty sure I won't fail this way. Your way of teaching is amazing❤❤❤

I just happened to stumble on this. I got an invasive infection several years ago. It was horrific. Barely survived. It was really helpful to me personally to see it all explained in this video. I was living in a foreign country at the time. The doctors and nurses were wonderful, but they spoke their native language and French. I speak a couple languages beside English, but not those two! It was quite an experience! They took really great care of me though. So grateful I survived! Thanks for this informative video.

Thank you for the explanation! I have been getting treated for a non-invasive infection for about 2 years with Metronidazole and the infection kept coming back until I got private insurance and my new doctor gave me Metronidazole for the trophozoite form and then Paromomycin for the cysts. I just started taking the Paromomycin 3 days ago and it's been flushing me out. Hopefully this gets ride of the problem!

I nearly died of this as a kid. They think I picked it up in the hospital as a baby. It got worse over time and I was hospitalised at 9. It was a bad time. My doctors gave me a larger than approved of dose of meds to save me. It was a bad time, but I lived :) in my 30s now.

  • @alexisraelyan9640

Note that when diagnosing a patient finding histolytica cysts in the feces is not enough. This could mean that the patient is carrying the entamoeba (in the non invasive form) and just has forma minuta in him (the form that does not invade and harm) and that the diarrhea and pain come from a completely other source. To make sure that the probles comes from the histolytica one should find the forma magna (the invasive form which causes ulcers , abscesses etc.) in fresh fecal matter (not yet formed completely, because forma magna can not form cysts and dies off easily in a short time before the feces are examimed). This makes the diagnosis tricky sometimes.

Treatment requires a two phase approach:
Metronidazole is used to kill the adult phase; the Trophozoites
However the cysts are unaffected by this antibiotic
So a luminal agent like Paromomycin (Humatin) must be used to clear the babies or the cysts
