Thanks for a great channel, as an older tech guy i really relate to you.
I started using Evernote a few years ago and it really changed my life, I took all my music (i'm a musician) and put it in the program and all my random unorganized stuff. It came just as I was finally organizing all elements of my life and, strange as it might be to say, I really consider it to be one of the coolest things ever to happen to me as i've been horribly disorganized

Thanks to several of your videos I have jumped in and I am now using the free version of evernote. I am really liking it so far just learning how to apply evernote to my world. I know I am on the elementary level but I use to have many open chrome tabs for web articles I liked, I have now webclipped them all in evernote and closed all the open google chrome tabs. 😁

I enjoy your channel very much. I watched this episode again today to review some points I had forgotten. I wanted to share... I was helping a customer yesterday and I got to tell him about both Evernote and Dottotech and how much they helped me. This morning I received an email thanking me for directing him to productivity tools he found true value in. He also praised me in an email to my boss stating he appreciated the info I shared with him and my exceptional customer service. Thanks for making me look good!

You mentioned the handwritten notes are searchable in Evernote. I take all my notes by hand, and started photographing them. So, I tried it out. Now, I write in cursive. Nevertheless, it was able to pick out instances of the terms I tried. Impressive!

Keep up the good work, Steve. I don't watch any of your work on the use of internet media for marketing as I now just sit back and enjoy my retirement.
However your videos about using computer (and its apps) efficiently are always good and to the point, with my favourite (and yours) being Evernote.
It was your 11 day course (Evernote made easy V1 I think) way back before webinars that introduces me to Evernote and has been my repository for all data collected or created since then.

after one year not using Evernote I‘m currently migrating my most relevant projects back to Evernote. It‘s so efficient, quick, smart, easy, one tool that offers and includes so many important features (e. g. nice note taking icnl. checkmarks, reminders, Tag browser, GPS location, ...). Did you ever realize that annotating an image (e. g. a photo of a document) - vs a PDF - Evernote is automatically resizing the image so you have tons of space for your annotations? super cool!

Good stuff - in my anchor notes I also have links to other Notes - so one anchor note is like a master list that links to other Notes.

  • @ewolshin

I have used Evernote to create an index of what I have stored in various cabinets around the house. I have a lot of hardware, cables, electrical parts. For each part, I place it on a neutral back ground and take a picture of it using Evernote’s camera feature. Each piece of hardware is an Evernote note. If there is a product tag or electric spect on the back or side of the hardware, I take a picture of that too and include it in the note. I also include a close up of the end if a cable to show what kind of connection is on the end (USB, RJ-45, phone jack, etc). I write a short description of each and now I can find anything I have squirreled away in a drawer of cabinet. I am also starting to do a photo index of the front cover and title page of my books so I can quickly check to see if they have a particular book and what it physically looks like.

I have NEVER used the camera. Time to start. By anchor notes do you mean shortcuts? And if you pay for the service EN will OCR PDFs. A very important and useful feature. Thanks again Mr. EverTech.

Anchor notes are more like living documents that I pour related content into, No structure, just info.

    • @effortist

Steve, I use a Neo SmartPen and auto sync my hand written notes in my Neo Notebook to EN. The sync creates a Neo Notes notebook in Evernote. All of my hand written notes are then in my EN account and I never have to take a photo of my written notes. They are all searchable in EN. Also, my NeoNotes tags carry over into EN and I can sort my NeoNotes by tags. Very cool.

Hi, first time I see your channel. Thank you for posting this video. I am learning about Evernote i know it existed but forgot what it was called. The search feature is the best, i am doing that with word for my notes and many times it does not find the item I am looking for even when i do control+f.. this is amazing. I will be looking more on how to get started with evernote. thanks for sharing.

Enjoy your videos. I have been using Evernote since Jan 2012, but find myself transitioning to OneNote. Mainly since OneNote converts my handwriting to text. OneNote's search feature works as well as EverNote. The phone app is smother in EN. Need to use Office Lens to get similar functionality. Web Clipping for both is almost indistinguishable between the two, but I give the edge to EN.

    Nicely done GrandPa ; )))))
Whilst yes we both despair over Evernote corporate issues and ear flaps, the product is very much still valid as it was yesterday - the those three features are the core to its success. I'll add - for me writing and reading dead trees alot still - tha the clipper now has an Amazon option when you clip an Amazon page (missing would be a Facebook equivalent), and the ability if you're not in a hurry to tag and add notes and direct to a notebook of choice is good. If I can't spend the time 'now' I use the time to bring it to my attention in my daily/weekly review time slot... ...
I also notice you using "." in front of your Webinar tag, I don't recall you explaining you tag structure - over using "." to ensure some tags are at the top of the tag list. If it is more than just that - then a vid offering what it is and how it came to be would be welcomed. Tagging allows non-search groupings - so whilst you can search "George" in my stack of EN books and get a number of returns for say George Orwell, I can in the tags page hit ":Author" and get George and all the other authors currently tagged - as for me ":" means people's names.
So keep up the good work.

I love my fountain pens for notetaking and do the same thing as you at meetings: I write it all by hand. Difference is, I write in cursive. Evernote's OCR doesn't have much luck with cursive. It's still a good archive for those handwritten notes: I rely on tagging and titles. I hope some day Evernote will include the Remarks feature from the webclipper in the main program. It would be handy for making my handwritten notes more searchable.

  • @mussoletart8485
    @mussoletart8485 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Since your webinar, I have looked at other options for myself, and the webclipper, on mobile or desktop, is just a massive point for Evernote, as it is the way 90% of my notes make it into my system.
What I like about Notion initially is the idea of the work space, and the inclusion of calendars and toggled list. I can simulate the workspace just fine in Evernote (in fact I already did), but I would really like some further layout options to structure the information I store in a note. That still doesn't outweigh the power of the webclipper though!

Great job Steve of summarizing the great features of EN. Would you please give a summary help guide to using the web clipper on iPad? It frustrates me the limitations that are placed on us if we use EN on our iPad and can’t do a good job of clipping. Thanks!

I looked at many apps, but Evernote has always something more. Now I’m testing a combo of Google Drive and Google Keep, but I miss the web clipper so much! And the feature to store emails. Furthermore, despite I can do almost everything on other apps, EN is the most usable.

    • @wherezthebeef

I find huge overlap in what I use Evernote and Keep for. Evernote is great on desktop, Keep - for instant access and use on mobile. Evernote mobile and web versions - using either is like a root canal and takes me 10x longer to do or find anything than using Keep. Keep on Desktop: Tremendously dumbed-down compared to Evernote, however, fast: Use Labels (like folders) for structure, however Keep is limited to 50 labels , which seems a ridiculous limitation. To replicate Web Clipper in Keep, I have the Chrome Extension: GoFullPage - Full Page Screen Capture .. which I then past the screenshots into Keep.. Alas, there is no perfect app. I chose Evernote and work within it's limitations, as the best compromise. I have it on my iPhone for occasions when I need to reference something shopping.

Can you tell me if this would be a good organization tool for storing collections with photos of rubber stamps, acrylic stamps, etc. I am an avid card maker and need a way to find things without having to sit and rummage through 5-4" binders to find what I want. Usually I can't find it. What is your suggestion for this. Thanks in advance for your opinion.

Thank you Steve - I was being evangelical about Evernote at my office and still pay for a common business platform, but the security remains an issue and has limited its growth here (Investment Management). I've been a user since 2011 and find it to be a terrific productivity enhancer. Like anyone sensible, I keep sensitive data off of it and encrypt information that is the least bit questionable. Evernote is still great, but I will really be happy when they make the next move and hope they can tackle the business side security issues.
Maximizing search power and file/tag organizational approaches is always a subject I will watch again and again. Thanks for your work!

Hi Steve, I'm glad that you did this update to your comments re Evernote not perhaps being the right tool anymore. I looked at Notion and found it rather clumsy. I'm sticking with Evernote as I use it everyday in my business along with Asana. I've used the camera button before but didn't realize it could index notes. That is a Great tool in my business (graphic design & printing). Keep the good stuff coming. A long time fan from your television days.

#iPad only - Evernote is so much easier to use than iOS files app . The email gateway is fantastic when combined with Spark app. Noteshelf 2 is my go to note and sketching app which auto publishes in Evernote. Great for organizing photos as well. Evernote is the hub that links everything. Hopefully they will realize that mobile is the future.

First, thank you for your wonderful videos... This has become my first stop when researching software and you've also turned me onto a few indispensable apps that I didn't even know about. On this one, though, I feel I should point out that Apple Notes does all of those things (including instant OCR when you scan documents with the camera), with a much simpler interface and for FREE (not yelling... just emphasizing. :-). Apple Notes has become quite robust and powerful over the past few years, of course, it requires that all of your devices are Apple...

I use MS Outlook and make my notes in the calendar, on the date and time, add photos and write chapters for my book there to transfer into Word. I take a picture with my iPhone of my to do and grocery lists and park it there to retrieve later when there are due and have a reminder set for that. I can retrieve the event, people, chapters, lists etc.in the search area.. Am I missing something? What would be the benefit of Evernote? Thank you for the tutorial.

Where do I find help on the current (which version is that?) version? I tried to insert a Table and I could not find help even from Evernote that worked in either the beta version or the classic version.

And i think that s ancre notes. I am going to get an evernote account. Can't live with this, my thoughts need ancre notes :)

I'm just now seeing this (just looked for it) in Jan 2021... just a few 'days' past your posting date. ; ) So, I have a question .. you mentioned some 'concern' about the future of Evernote. What is your current view from JAN 2021 of Evernote? Like you and many others, I've 'bought in' heavily to the use of Evernote. It appears to ticking right along ...but you're closer to the 'hub' - your view would be appreciated. Thank you again for fine tutorial. You do it sooo very well. Best. -les

Nice overview!!!! I love Evernote and am just as disappointed and it's 'stagnation' and am years into using it as my main data collection app. New workplace used Microsoft Note but I am trying to get them onto Evernote. Will try to use this video to assist that conversation :) Thanks again. Keep up the great work.

In case you can't, you can do these in the Microsoft ecosystem pretty easily. The camera feature is best duplicated with Office Lens, which direct sends the photographed documents to OneNote and/or OneDrive. OneNote also allows within-app links to specific pages and sections, so you can compile a shortcuts type of page. In 2016 you don't even need that, just slap a tag on them and tag search will find that sort of anchored list easily.
The web clipper though, yeowch. OneNote web clipper is just worse than Evernote's.

    DJish ! 😁
Since you do your visual demonstrating on a computer, I am wondering if I can do all you show on just my phone ?....Because, Yes, even "I" use Evernote !
I know, hard to believe !

Is the ability to say what type of document you've photographed with the camera an IOS only feature? I've just tried it from my Samsung and it just as a note, no OCR and no chance to say it's a document. I have a Premium account.

I have enjoyed using Evernote for quite a few years, however they can't seem to get a decent print action on mobile and we have found the web clipper sucks, especially on confidential records and we all use the microsoft snipping tool. Must add that we all enjoy your videos, very helpful
