As a medical instructor I was constantly having to instruct my students not to use information obtained from Dr. Oz, Dr. Phil, Oprah, or any others promoted TV personality. I spent hours presenting corrective information. Most of the information my students brought to my attention was not only dangerous but medically unfounded. It is frightening to think some may put these unfounded aspects to use.

All of these "doctors" giving bogus medical advice should be sued and made to pay for the bad outcomes. Once they pay reparations, fines for dispensing medical advice without a license, and het a bad name in the press, only then the public will realize that these are conmen. We need stronger laws and enforcement.

I used to work in a public library. Whatever book Oprah recommended for her book club, it immediately became a best seller and we would have huge hold lists for that title. I thought it was interesting how many people said they disliked her book choices, and had never enjoyed one of her picks, but they would invariably want to read whatever she chose. When asked why they continued to read her choices, they basically all said because she was Oprah and therefore her choices must be good. So instead of reading something enjoyable they would suffer through books they didn’t like. Personality cults are fascinating!

Science has become in itself its own religion. Many forget that it’s purpose is to measure and document physical reality. There are several ideas dubbed as “pseudoscience” that can not be proven or disproven. Yes, I know that’s a sketchy premise, and I don’t condemn those who don’t believe me when I speak of what I’ve experienced over the years. I don’t believe doctors promoting herbal supplements. But to say Extraterrestrials and extrasensory phenomena are not possible, i must disagree. I’ve seen extrasensory at work.

    • @fredrika27
      @fredrika27 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

I agree that Oprah makes mistakes, that she can support questionable topics/projects and that she isn't perfect. That is why she changed the direction of her show about 30 years ago because she at least understood the impact she had. That said, you can't point to any other woman who has done as much positive for people as she has. If Oprah wants to do pseudoscience, that's her choice. People don't have to listen if they don't want to. People also have to take responsibility for what they choose to believe! To put everything on Oprah isn't fair! What you've forgotten: science often fails people! When this is happens, people look for alternative cures including pseudoscience, prayer and quack cures. In closing, I want to say your commentaries are now following a trend in which you're literally making money off analyzing-some people may say bashing- celebrities who are yellow press fodder. That you question Winfrey's use of pseudoscience is hypocritical when you are also making peddling your own kind of pseudoscience! As they say, takes one to know one!

I hesitated to share this here. I have actually no bias about this one way or the other. The very bright, typical child , of a very accomplished couple I know, became severely disabled following an immunization. I have been in a position to personally ask questions of CDC employees on the topic of vaccinations. I did not mention my friend's son. I was essentially told vaccine injury is nearly impossible on planet earth. I am a great believer in the value of immunizations. Yet, I know what happened to my friend's only child.

I don't remember which tallkshow it was, but I was visiting friends and there was one on their TV about a family that had lost four successive children to SIDS. It was claimed that because the odds against a single occurrence of that was X, the odds of this was zero, rather than X to the fourth power and foul play must be involved. The number was low enough to be unlikely but low odds and impossible are entirely different things. I was dismayed that no one in the production staff could do the math. It wasn't one of the completely fake shows that only exist to rile up audiences. This was sometime in the 90's

@@mariawoo843 - Oh my Gosh!! I couldn’t believe what I was reading when I read your comment that Dr. Phil said we had already been thru COV - 1 to 18!!!!
I’m in shock, actually! Now, I’ve never watched his show, but you can’t not know these people who pop up everywhere. In fact, just yesterday I was watching the TH-cam Channel “The Behavior Panel” (the four men who are body language experts and that’s their field). They pick a person which is usually a criminal or a famous person who has recently been in news over some controversial issue and they read their body language.
Anyway, they had Dr. Phil on their panel because of a person he had himself interviewed. So, the 5 of them discussed this man’s body language. I’ve never been able to pinpoint and say why I had no interest to ever watch his show. Of course, over the decades, you can’t help from running into them while channel surfing or being online. So, I have seen like one-minute spots of his show and left. Not once did his personality or interview style once grab me to keep me viewing. I’ve always seen him as kinda creepy with his one-look face that never changes. But, I’ve never judged him in any other way because I know you can’t fairly do that without any information at all. I seriously never saw him for more than a minute and maybe that happened 5 times or less over the past decades. I only watched Oprah probably 10 times over the decades. It’s not just those two. I do not like that kind of show anyway. I think I may have seen Ellen maybe 3 times. I think I’ve channel-surfed and when I’d see an extraordinary child doing something really talented, that could easily keep me.
BUT, my question is, “Just HOW is it possible for people to put stock in ANYTHING he now says since he said that about COVID-19?!! I mean, when I watched him yesterday on Behavior Panel, I had no idea!! But, if I had, I would’ve never watched it because I would’ve known what a half-wit he is! Ewww! LOL! Thanks for sharing that. Omg, people never cease to amaze me in their psycho ways, narcissism, fraudsters, etc. So, Dr. Grande did a good program here exposing her for the fraudsters she has endorsed. I mean, I’ve never seen these people like Dr. Oz. I truly have zero interest in those shows. I actually don’t watch much TV. I stream most everything I watch. There’s just too much good streaming content (like some most excellent documentaries) to miss to go watch those shows. When Oprah was on, I had a business I was running. And kids! I just hardly watched TV. When Dr. Grande was rattling off the LONG LIST of crap that Oprah used to peddle, like new age stuff, fraudsters, magic, mystics, etc it blew my mind! No wonder we have so many generations of stupid people. Yes, I’m actually saying I’m not stupid. LOL! Like you aren’t or you wouldn’t have bothered to bring up what Dr. Phil said. OMG! I was thinking of going to search for that video to hear him say it, but I’m not sure I can handle it. Knowing that MILLIONS and MILLIONS of people watched him and Oprah every day and didn’t even KNOW when they were being bullshitted to??!! They don’t have that inner voice to know it when they hear it? I’m having a rant. I’ll let you go. Thx for sharing, tho. 👍🏼

When a person's unfettered narcissistic qualities are promoted, validated, and even revered on a grand scale it doesn't take too long for these narcissistic qualities to manifest themselves into a form of megalomania. In the same way that power is attractive, self-belief can morph into self-delusion and become counter-productive. When we measure success solely by levels of financial attainment and popularity it can be difficult to maintain any level of objectivity and level-headedness. If everybody tells you that you are some kind of god or godess, and your bank balance starts to reflect this hyper-inflated image, then you are prone to start believing in your own infallibility.

The only Oprah that people who do not receive American television ( ie most of the world) are aware of, is an actress they may have seen in a film "The Colour Purple". Like all television personalities in every country, famous nationally, but not internationally.
Since the invention of TH-cam however, the global viewer is exposed to more.
One dated clip shows Oprah and the Louis Vuitton handbag(purse) in Rome story. The bottom line was, the shop assistant, hired and paid a salary to sell a franchised French product, decides to actually miss out on a lucrative sale of an insanely overpriced bag "..because she is black"!
Louis Vuitton Rome vehemently denies any such episode.
A handbag incident actually did take place with Oprah in Zurich where again she claims the assistant refused to sell her a bag for racist reasons.
Anyone familiar with these up-market boutiques knows how absurd such a conjecture could be.
The assistants have a sixth sense for money and wealthy clientele, but their knowledge of the English language is scholastic at best.
Two things are obvious: Oprah's annoyance at not being recognised and revered, no will or effort to overcome the language barrier. It seems to me the one story was milked and spun off the other, trying to imply Europe is racist.(?)
American style racism simply cannot be projected onto sophisticated Europe, light years ahead on the topic of integration.
Until this story is cleared up, I detect a strong odour of BS.

I've literally met oprah in 2003 because I was on her show...named..."Aging Gracefully"
I went there as a huge FAN...
    But, came up out DISGUSTED...
This woman was an enormous EGOTISTICAL NARCISSIST...
She was rude to both the audience & her staff...
I want to make a note here. I WASN'T treated badly myself. Because I was on the panel. However, I had a birdseye view of everything going on around me...after that show, I had never watched another episode again...
So, needless to say...I CAN'T STAND the WOMAN...
Today I'm a devout Catholic, but wasn't then...And, OPRAH'S disgust with religion is SICKENING...
I, like the countless #'s of people from all over the world, hung on OPRAH'S EVERY WORD...BOUGHT EVERYTHING she ENDORSED on her show, BELIEVED EVERYTHING she said...
Seeing this woman up close & personal, on not one but 2 occasions & literally face to face, was a blessing to me from God. Because, it had broken the so called "Opeah Effect" for myself.
However, it didn't end with me. Her INFLUENCE over a VAST MAJORITY of people, BEGAN to DETERIORATE RAPIDLY...
I'd even say that the sentiments concerning oprah have shifted by the MULTITUDES of INDIVIDUALS across the WORLD...
