- My chickens are very friendly and I made that a priority. Not only so that I could enjoy their company but also so they would be easy to handle in the event of illness or injury. #subscribe

I love your relationship with your babies ❤❤❤ Thank you for sharing them with us!
You're welcome! I'm so glad you enjoy them! 🥰
The rooster we raised (rescued) from a chick. He was loyal, loving and very cuddly. Our hen (bought as a companion) was grown up when we got her. Very distrustful initially. But, the more time she spent with him and us together, the more she allowed us to handle her and pet her, she became a spoilt little girl quickly. We handled them a lot, carrying them and cuddling them. They loved to have their wattles touched, and gently scratched under their chin. They were very trusting of us and seemed to see us as part of the flock.
Oh, I love that! 🥰
We had a male die, so we incubated the eggs that were currently "his breeding. It however was November so we kept them in the house. When larger than sterilate base, they were moved into a tent in family room.
The two youngest kids (4 and 7) treated them as a petting farm sitting with them, petting and interacting with them as they grew.
When the youngsters were put our with the older birds there was of course pecking order issues. Everytime when the kids went to the coop area, the younger (there was 4) would run to the kids begging to be picked up and "saved" from the older birds and being picked on! Eventually the all adapted, but those four will seek out the kids when they come around the chickens.
My first day with TinkerBell and the 12 newbies.... TinkerBell was sent to her Coop twice for timeout. She hasn't hurt them but it's sorta like she's teasing them. Like a big sibling would do to a younger sibling if bored lol. But the newbies was scared initially. And now are easing back and forth around her. It will take days I'm sure but we'll get there. Cause no one is going anywhere. ❤
How sweet and I know your children love them very much! 🥰
@judywiggins5092 Be a good girl, TinkerBell, and welcome your new friends! 😍🥰🤩
I tamed my baby chicks the same way you do. I spent lots of time with them in the brooder, let them come to me when they felt comfortable. I offered food from my hand and talked gently to them. Before I knew it they were jumping in my lap and falling asleep in my hand. I never forced them to do anything. ❤
It just takes patience! 🥰🥰🥰

Super great video. ❤
Thank you! 🥰
I love making friends with birds and cats. Advise: when you sit down near a chicken dirt bath, pay attention to which way they are kicking and wing flinging dirt! It can be rather painful.
Or if they get out of the dust bath, walk across the yard to you, and then shake off. Also painful... 🤣
@@thecoopscoop Ouch! That never happened to me.
So helpful, thanks for sharing! I’m always amazed at how sweet your girls are and how they love and trust you.. you’re such a great chicken mom! 🥰 my 3 are really sweet and love to hang out but even after 2years, no pets allowed. Will try sitting with them today and extra snacks, I refuse to give up! 😂🥰 hope y’all have a great day, stay cool in this heat! 🥵
Thank you! It really is a labor of love but so worth it. Have a wonderful day! 😍
@@thecoopscoop thank you! 🥰
I've noticed that the ones who are at the bottom of the pecking order will stand back from me, but will get within a foot or so, just to be close. If I give them attention the others who are above them in the pecking order will start picking on them.
I think that they are pretty smart for staying away from me, but I wish that I could be closer to them. I just have to respect their pecking order, I guess.
Alice, my Barnevelder, is bottom of the pecking order, and when she was younger, she would only come sit with me when the others weren't around. She gained more confidence after she started laying eggs but is still at the bottom. 😊
You mean to tell me that you don’t roll in honey and mealy worms, to attract your chooks? 😂
They would love that! 😅🤣😂
I love how you interact with your girls! So sweet. For me, certain breeds are more friendly than others.
I have a question concerning mites; did your chicken’s feathers look dull and damaged due to the infestation?
Sometimes, they'll look like that because they're dust bathing a lot, which could indicate mites. And sometimes they're like that just because they haven't molted in a couple of seasons. If you think they have mites, go look around their vent at night with a flashlight. Mites are more active at night, so check their skin in that area and the feather shafts for eggs, and if they're there, you'll see them. I recommend Elector PSP as a treatment. It's not cheap, but I found a smaller amount that would treat 50 chickens a while back on The Chicken Chick's website. If they have mites, the sooner you treat them, the better because it won't go away on its own. 😊
I think I’m a baaad chicken mother…😂
😅🤣😂
I love these videos…. Nothing against shorts…but videos like this are more educational.
7:40…. In their little chicken head, there’s still the miracle “chance “ their eggs will hatch
Lol, it would make more sense if they were actually even sitting on eggs. My chickens are crazy. 🤣
5:00 Yea I guess it’s different than cats and dogs… when I visit family I usually put my forehand..forward for the dogs, to let them sniff and sometimes they remember me and sometimes they don’t. Especially dogs. Everything is sniffing. Not sure if the same applies to chickens
Very different... 🙂
I find an old shirt and work in it for a few days then put it in their brooder so they get my scent...not sure if it works but they all come to me lol
I don't see why it wouldn't help! 🥰
❤
What seriously amazes me, is how you remember every chicken. I just wanted to say, my girl was older when she came to me, and I talk to her all the time when Im outside feeding animals, and I call her by name. Sometimes we have a running conversation. That has helped her get used to me.
@JaneJones-uh5le Lol, my mom says that every time she visits! It's kind of like being in school or church and remembering all your classmates or Sunday school friends' names. 😆
1:15 fire alarm hen 😂😂 🚨‼️
😅🤣😂
I’m noticing your chicken pen, did you order it from a company or build it yourself? Your videos of your sweet hens makes me smile everyday. I want to get several varieties , as young birds, but am not sure about ordering chicks thru the post office, sounds cruel.
Just keep in mind that unless you go to a farm and pick them up, they've been shipped. If you buy from Tractor Supply, for instance, they were shipped to the store. The pen I'm sitting in is just a chainlink fence with garden fencing attached to it so the chicks can't fit through. 😊
Thank you!
I do the same thing you do…. I don’t grab them… I let them come to me. My latest group of five are almost 3 weeks old and they fly up to my lap, my arms, my shoulders. It took a couple days longer for the two most hesitant… but now I keep taking them back down to the floor and tell them “go play”…. But they just keep coming back up😁. My older girls come when I call them and follow me when I ask them to. I agree with everything you said because I’ve done it. (I do want to say…. The breeds you choose are a factor).
Definitely! Some breeds are just more flighty. I love the bigger ladies and want them to be friendly with me, so I try to choose breeds that are known for that. 🥰
My chickens & my rooster all come up to me. They’ll even stand on my sandals/feet but they won’t let me pet/hold them. I’ve sat in their coop for hours & they’ll take food out of my hand but I cannot get them to let me pick them up.
Great idea! I’m going to start putting a towel on my lap & put the treats on the towel. Wish me luck! I would love to hold them! Thank you!
Wishing you all the best! 🥰
Thank you for sharing your experience, I’m struggling with adult hen I got her at 1 year it has been like 9 months still no luck 🍀 😢
I find it to be more challenging when they're adults, but it can be done, so I wish you all the best! 🥰
thanks alot for the wisdom, keep it up!🐣🐥🐔
Thank you! 🥰
🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Unfortunately my girls keep getting mites. I have tried everything made for these critters. They have been dunked and dusted to the end of their patience with me. So they aren't sure what I have planned for them today😢poor girls. Overall they tolerate me.
Have you tried elector psp? It's a spray, and it works in one treatment with no egg withdrawal. You can buy a smaller amount from The Chicken Chick website.
@thecoopscoop I finally did get the elector psp. I bought the large bottle. I just sprayed their vent area and under their wings. Is that sufficient? I couldn't find any advice on how much to spray and I didn't want to overdose them. I would really appreciate any advice that you can give me. I live in Northern Nevada so we will be getting cold here in the next 4 to 6 weeks. I really want to have the spraying done soon. Also do I spray the coop and runs?
@carlasenecal3434 We really did a good spray on the vent, back of neck, and under the wings. I was just about to do a good spring clean when I discovered them on my chickens, so I emptied everything out of the coop. I sprayed the roost down first thing in the morning and the nest boxes later that day when they were through laying. I sprayed all around the edges where the walls meet the floor in the coop pretty good and then lightly on the walls and floors. I've not seen a single mite since.
@@thecoopscoop thank you. I will go ahead and spray them better in 2 weeks. Sprayed coop and covered run. Will do those one more time as well.
Bribery with food and good ol time.
Always helpful! 😆🥰😅
