That's a good idea, taking stuff out and then deciding what you want to create with them! I think that would be easier than trying to figure out what you want to create first. I think sometimes that is what gets people stuck!
It's definitely helped me. I try to keep seasonal and holiday items together. Then when the time comes I bring out those containers and put them on or near my desk. I consult Pinterest to get me started when I'm really stuck and struggling.
