2017 withdrew because the contest was held in Ukraine there were political tensions, i think she also broke some of their rules about entering Crimea etc

I believe it was done on purpose to make Ukraine look bad (for Russian viewers) for not letting the disabled girl enter the contest.

Makes no sense because she is Russian. Not Ukrainian. She doesn’t have to abide by those rules if she doesn’t live there
Alexey Vorobyov then received 16th place, in part because when he made it to the finals, but when he was happy, he swore on the air.
the 2010 entry is weird but great. he was (is) known for ironic and comical/funny songs and that song was mostly there to fulfill the stereotype/cliché of a "boring and slow Russian ballad". But still sounds nice.

t.A.T.u. sounded good? Actually, a lot of people (including the girls from the duo) agreed they sounded bad... And one of the girls ruined her throat because she didn't sing right vocally (years later she had cancer of throat).
I went back and listened again and you're right they didn't sound great however when I was reacting I had been hearing the bad performances from the previous years before I heard them and comparatively they were a big improvement 😀

Intersting fact. Right after that performance the girls had an interview where they emotionally said "It's our first time ever when we sing live!". And it's funny cause the girls were popular duo for like 3 years at that moment.
Wow.. that's pretty wild they went that long as a group without ever performing live.

Most of those singers support the russian war againt Ukraine and watching/listening to russians in 2023 is a cringe.. They must be cancelled.
