The fact that a moth flew past them while playing *Middle-earth roleplay* and nobody thought to gently catch it, whisper a message to it, and then set it free like Gandalf is insane.
Second story, the DM is 100% playing favorites with the gunslinger and being a sucky friend. It's one thing to give the gunslinger an item that lets them overtake OP like that, but to explicitly point out all their mistakes? That's where the line is 100% crossed.
@@ArcCaravan From what I read, only the Gunslinger complained at that point, on only them get stuff to "Do better than OP", which was the thing they complained about in the first place.
@@Juju2927 Well, the DM SAID that Gunslinger was feeling left behind in damage (which is funny because Gunslingers are stupid strong, even compared to blaster wizards), but we don't know that the gunslinger actually said anything. DM could be just assuming. I'm also skeptical of the DM having issues balancing encounters because of an added spellcaster with a couple of damaging spells.
@@Juju2927 Weirdly enough we only hear OP talk about what the DM says instead of any interactions with the other players. It didn't even look like OP talked to the other players, just DM's word that gunslinger's DPS experience is spoiled and then DM describing the gunslinger correcting OP's magic. Now I feel like wearing a tinfoil hat and claiming the three original players never existed and DM is just running a game for himself as all the intended heroes.
"Your wizard is doing too much damage." Bro, the whole point of the wizard is to OBLITERATE THE SHIT OUT OF PEOPLE! Jokes aside, having one tank, one healer, the rest being DPS is kinda standard for a lot of RPGs
"Know your role" story: If the DM plays a lot of FFXIV, they must not be very *good* at it. A *GOOD* FFXIV player knows: EVERYONE. IS. A. DPS! *EVEN THE HEALERS!* *SHOW HIM THE JOCAT VIDEOS!*
As a WHM main, I like to call my damaging abilities "Preventive Medicine" because the mobs & boss can't hurt the party if they are too dead to attack. ;)
I was about to chime in on that. FFXIV is sort of built around the idea that everyone needs to be a DPS on top of their role and it makes a difference between a kill and an enrage. Even if you aren't raiding, if you are a tank or healer and you're not trying to DPS you are slowing the whole party down with your BS and are not winning any COMs or friends. DM sounds like a clueless or lazy sprout.
Reminds me of playing DDO way back and people joining groups to be dead and a drain on the party for entire Quest/Adventure, ranting the whole time that the game is imbalanced and everyone has to play the way they want strictly holy trinity only, only DPS, does, Damage Only Healers Heal, and only Tank, Tanks as they are carried through content to free exp and loot, then promptly booted from the party afterwards. Then they go to the forums to cry and demand the X-Y build gets nerfed.
@@AnnoyingSquib Never played FFXIV but he sounds like the type of guy who wants to be a dps, but just charge in while hes being babysat by 1 healer all to himself, buffing and healing him exclusively then he can boast that he soled the entire thing or that he is the best because he did the most damage, because well he is the only one allowed to do damage.
I haven't even played that far into FFXIV (I got to the end of Dragonsong and just quit) but even I know this is true. My favorite healer was Sage, aka a DPS class turned green, and I knew that the best thing I can do as a tank (even as a Paladin, which has a lot of supportive abilities) is to whack things over the head so they stay aggroed to me. My favorite classes were the ones that could do some small things from other roles (the two above plus Summoner, which has a res skill and comically weak heal in its kit) while still doing their core jobs just fine. Part of me wishes it didn't take forever and a day to reach the seriously complex raid content, because diving into that and learning how each job fills its and other roles would've kept me in the game for so much longer. Also, like, FFXIV parties have like twice as many DPS characters as they do any other role, and that's something even the sproutiest sprout could catch onto. Limiting yourself to only one DPS is asking for a slow and painful disaster in like any level of content💀
The DM in the last story tugged at my heartstrings. The only player worth a damn at her table had to drop out, leaving her with a bunch of drunks that don't engage with her story at all. Massive downer.
Regarding the second story, I'd raise it with the DM and just leave. You're not going to scold me about stepping on "predefined party role" toes then proceed to handwave my class with magic items. Favourtism or not, not sticking around to argue with that guy and open a can of worms.
That was petty revenge and favoritism, a ring that turns someone into a Dragon and Super Genius? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 and this was a DM that was Salty Previously about PARTY BALANCE? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I'm curious what the other party members thought about DM's roles and use of a new player just for skill checks. That plot device could have easily gone to the other players, give or take making transformation more about tanking or support.
One of the perks of being a mom with 3 boys who are just as crazy about dinosaurs as I am is that no one gets to judge me for having a ton of Dinosaur themed stuff. We watch dinosaur everything, some of them a few hundred times. It's awesome 😂
I feel really bad for the DM in the final story. Surrounded by a bunch of terrible players who don't care about her hardwork, but that one player made the difference for her. I hope she finds a good group who appreciates all the hard work she pours into a story.
The first story is even more bizarre if you know that in FFXIV, the light party composition is a tank, a healer, and two DPS. They actually were fitting the MMO mold! The GM is probably just friends with the Gunslinger and wanted to favor them.
Seemed like DM only wanted OP in the game for passing knowledge checks and taking notes while the original players got the actual adventure. I have no doubt DM would pull the same trick using oracle or paladin.
Aren't the tanks and healers excepted to contribute DPS in FFXIV as well? I remember hearing that FFXIV was balanced around everyone contributing to damage, and you'd struggle if they didn't. In that case, it's even more nonsense. (To avoid confusion: dps still contribute the majority of the damage)
A small note about the second story: in my opinion, the GM is playing favorites... to HIMSELF. He's basically rewriting characters left and right: a Gunslinger in dragon form is basically useless, whether 2e or 1e, given that his actual lethality is, as the name implies, his GUN. Gunslingers are ranged specialists that inflict a metric crapton of damage by shooting, and turning one into a dragon removes that perk - furthermore, if that is 2e Gunslingers only reach full power when attacking from range with guns or crossbows, and turning one into a dragon literally gives him a -2 penalty to his attacks in a game where every +1 or -1 counts (for those who don't play 2e, a Gunslinger's proficiency in his signature weapons is always one above everything else, meaning that if he's Master in guns - i.e. +6 - turning into a dragon forces him into Unarmed, where he's only expert - i.e. +4 - or to standard dragonform bonus, which for a martial class is usually WAY lower than standard) In short, GM isn't doing any favor to either the 'slinger or the wizard.
From the way the story is told, I would expect the DM to let the gunslinger use their breath with their gunslinger abilities, or just still be able to dual wield guns but get bonus damage because F- You Dragon.
Nice seeing someone not claiming the gunslinger was the only favorite like they're as guilty as the DM. Really was the DM favoring his own view of the game being the original party as DPS/tank/healer while OP was just there for intelligence checks.
The dm should have had him become a mechadragon with gun arms if he is going that far. that said, the dm really needs to let all the players have fun and get over himself and his fetish for the Gunslinger.
@@WildArmACF I'm not even sure DM even cares about gunslinger, just using that player to justify nerfing OP for wanting a role besides moving plot along. The same would probably happen if OP tried doing support with the magic item going to the oracle player instead.
YES! I hope the writer and the DM create a new campaign together. It's hard to find a group you mesh with entirely, so you need to keep the good ones when you can.
Ok. So it was my fault for drinking something while watching this.. but I just spat my drink out and started choking because "MERP" with the echo-y reverb just smacked my funnybone in the right place... My poor phone just got an unexpected shower 😂😂
That "know your role" story fascinated me as an example of when to have a DMPC. Felt less like being spiteful to OP/wizard from the start and more favoring the original party the campaign was actually intended for. DM would have been better off having a DMPC pass the knowledge checks needed for the party to continue the same way non-problem players use DMPCs to cover up an unfilledhealer role. Still scummy of the DM to recruit someone to play an NPC then spite them for thinking they were a player on par with the original group. If you're that desperate for a single role to be filled, make an NPC. If there's multiple roles to fill, bring a new player to the table and treat them as an equal member of the party.
What's so bad about the second story (Know your role) is that even if you accept that the DM was operating on the FF14 role design, then it still doesn't check out cuz the OP literally followed that design, with them even being a CASTER DPS. So in FF14, that would be a standard light party: a tank (paladin), a healer (oracle), a physical DPS (gunslinger), and OP being the caster (wizard). So, sorry, OP, but your DM friend is BS-ing you, and if I were you, I would let that be know by your DM friend. Do not this crap go on unchallenged.
Just sounds like DM is using roles as an excuse to deny OP a real place in the party and game beyond a glorified NPC to pass skill checks while forcing the plot forward.
Second story: something tells me the DM may have unwittingly incentivized not having an INT character with the way he’s running the party. OP was pretty much an NPC with the amount of agency he had and spotlight taken
Infinite Lasers Story. I am just a little ways into this story and already as a DM I am horrified. DM has got at least 8 players confirmed, and turns out to be more like 12 actual, and DM wants to have a DMPC?! DM is already juggling more bowling pins than I care to think about AND NOW WANTS TO SET THEM ON FIRE!
I don't know a ring that transforms you into a dragon and instantly gives martial classes knowledge about necromantic rituals... meaning the DM wrote that thing up deliberately to bully the Wizard. Ergo, he's a bad friend and should not be played with any longer. Leave.
Laser Story OP here. Crispy’s dramatic reading of my story was more entertaining than the game itself! :) thanks for including it even though it’s way tamer than the usual stories here.
i feel like your dm should have found another group who actually cared about her game. Pushing everything on you is NOT fair and taking it out on you is worse. Im glad you are doing better
Which story are you referring to? I’m sorry 3, the boring laser puzzle story. our DM didn’t really push anything onto us except a boring dungeon and a DMPC that he was really proud of.
4:36 - that's not how ff14 works tho..... EVERYONE needs to put in their dps regardless of roll - besides, light parties in ff14 run on TWO dps's and most of the mages are dps rolls....
You know, even Vegeta would have more decorum at an event that Goku invited him to. 7:18 Either he needs to evaluate if this guy is actually a friend or come to grips that DnD isn’t an activity they can do together.
While on an intellectual level I understand moths are harmless, on every other level, they creep me the hell out and I would absolutley wreck the table in my panic to escape.
Not all are Harmless we have a large moth that secretes a substance/liquid that gives you blisters. I mean its not deadly or anything but its unpleasant.
I'm there with you Crispy. I haven't played D2 since Lightfall....but that electric corridor and the Kamikaze Shanks will be my nightmare for eternity....
The shanks make me start screaming in horror whenever I’m in a raid, they’re so awful. Especially when they sneak up behind you and you turn around to shoot them only to watch as they explode in your face
I remember joining a campaign after being invited by a DM and he suggested playing a more DPS oriented character to help out the party in combat situations. I created a barbarian character with a homebrew Path of the Aberration. The ranger in the group being more experienced in hunting and showing more control with his emotions (having survived the curse of lycanthropy without killing his party) was someone I wanted my character to bond with. At first it went well, but the player didn't like that I dealt more damage to enemies than he did and after sessions he'd complain about how useless his character was. The whole group would try and cheer him up saying how he still dealt more damage than the rest of the party and I mentioned how my barbarian still looked up to and admired his ranger but nothing seemed to move him. He talked about wanting to kill off his character and make a fighter or something more powerful (dps heavy). The only joy he seemed to get would be when he could finish off my targets, which I didn't mind Hell we were on the same team and as long as the enemy was downed it didn't matter to me. Whatever helped him feel better about his character. But some nights if he couldn't kill off more baddies than me no amount of hand holding and complimenting would change his attitude.
11:45 I'd argue that area of the strike is even worse because they won't even let you be bored in piece. You've got to stick to your spot in line but ALSO keep dodging the electricity and shooting exploding enemies that spawn WHILE you wait for 2 people to run ahead. 😂
For ppl who are scared to try ttrpg with groups but still like the game style/play, try solo play! There are many solo ttrpgs to find and may boost your morale for playing in groups again. Or just have fun playing solo!
@pizzalisp5427 itch io has so many when you search up solo ttrpg. My current ones are Ronin, Iron Valley, Koriko. I have my eyes on Apothecaria, artifact and more! I can give you more names but just diving in is fun. Many are free or even have community copies!
@DaMuss-e2w many play styles in ttrpgs just mean more cake for everyone. Solo ttrpg are just as fun as playing in group ones or running games for my friends as well! But may not be that way for everyone and that's ok. ✨️
Yessss Walking with Dinosaurs was the BEST. It’s not the most accurate now (as far as we know) but man I would watch at least one of the episodes every day. I loved the one about the baby sauropods the most I think. And the marine one. And the frozen rainforest one
I've definitely joked about being the wizard that deals a ton of damage at the beginning of combat, and then saying "Well, I met my limit. If you want me to keep attacking you need to talk to my union rep, we got these rules so fighters can still be useful y'know".
I love that stupid electric hallway, cause I can do it easily, but some other dumbass always goes charging ahead to do it and dies repeatedly. And I'm usually the one playing a titan.
The DM's job is to make a story for their players. The players' job is to INTERACT WITH THE DAMN STORY! There's DMs out there who run meatgrinder kill-fests if that's your schtick, but if your DM wants to tell a story, work with them. I have two goofball players in my group - a greedy artificer building explosives and a thieving swashbuckler who's chaos personified - who are happy to warp the plot to suit them, but never break it outright. (I also made the mistake of giving the rogue two Immovable Rods, so she hangs from them out of reach and shoots with a pistol the artificer has given Repeating Shot to.) This is good player behavior - challenge the DM to up their game but don't break their will for funsies.
I absolutely relate to the OP of the last story. Mental ill health is just as debilitating as physical ill health. I should know: I had to leave my last job due to a nervous breakdown. That and I've also lived with an extremely toxic individual who caused a lot of my mental illness.
I've had one really drunk player and it was *rough*. I knew they were going through a hard time when I invited them to an online campaign, but on one session they were drunk and watching college football while frequently cheering for their team. It was a miserable session overall. I sympathized with this player, but if the football game was that important to them they shouldn't have agreed to that session time. Even after something of a necessary reboot, this campaign wound up being added to my list of campaigns that ended prematurely over the past couple of years. 😔
Second Story: I would actually tell the DM that I wouldn't be joining next time, as I would feel disrespected, and that he contradicted me, by having him overlap his abilities with me. That, or talk to the other players.
I'd definitely talk to the other players, especially since I doubt they were in on DM using OP as a glorified NPC for skill checks. Best compromise I'd consider making with the DM is to take time off to build a character who won't step on anyone's "role" while also not being completely obsolete by the rest of the party, probably with the other players helping make a character everyone can be satisfied with. Though most likely I'd tell the DM to just make a DMPC to pass his skill checks if "my" character wasn't allowed to be anything more than the party's tool.
Related to the intro story about bugs, I once broke a glass window at my mom's house when I was living there for college trying to kill a fly. And no, the fly didn't die 😅
The thoguht of the dm in second story just wanting to show op: "see? What if he'd do your role better than you? Do you now understand why i need you to deal no damage?" Is fucking hilarious xD
I will say - I played a long campaign of 3.5 as a swift ambusher (insane melee DPS build) alongside a Wizard who refused to use any damage dealing spells because he get they were suboptimal. I thought he was nuts at first, but by the end of the campaign (read: several years later when the pandemic hit and then people moved away) I was convinced. Sometimes it pays to be the smart one
In the 2nd story, HOW did the wizard manage to outdamage the gunslinger ? Like, for real ? Wizards are overpowered in pf, but not because of their damage : it's because of their versatility and their control spells. A gunslinger getting outdamaged means the gunslinger was likely counter optimized or something similar.
I'm not familiar enough with Pathfinder, though you do have me convinced DM could just give the gunslinger a weapon that kept the DPS good enough without having to tear down OP's attempts to play something beyond a skill monkey notepad.
@@ArcCaravanThe ironic thing is that also, the FF14 analogy doesn't work. Light Parties of 4 Players usually run a Tank, a Healer, and *TWO* DPS, but the DPS aren't the ones who only deal damage, *EVERYONE* has to be doing damage. The Tank is supposed to draw aggro and ya know...hit the enemies that are hitting them, not stand there and just eat damage while doing nothing. The Healer is also supposed to damage enemies whenever they have the opportunity, not just stand around waiting to reverse any HP Loss the others suffer, and the DPS...well they obviously focus on DPS and do most of it, but ya know
FFXIV and TTRPG player here whos planning on running the FFXIV TTRPG starter kit scenerio for some friends in the future. That guy in the second story doesnt speak for us. I dont know where he got the idea that Enrage mechanics are at all a thing in DnD outside of extremely niche scenes where the party is just on a time limit in general, I have to assume this was the first ever game they DMed and only had FFXIV to reference for inspiration.
if you, the dm, made destiny outside of d&destiny, you need to go into a corner for a time-out and think LONG and hard about what you just did (said as an autistic with a destiny hyperfixation) EDIT: holy shit last person, i desperately hope you find better friends and a group you mesh with well. manifesting you a better group or something, your wizard deserves to have her story written in full with people who care about it and your dm deserves a group who loves what she does. if there’s an off chance you’re reading this, best wishes.
The DM in the roles story is certainly an idiot. Whether they're malicious as well is debatable but I would never respect the intelligence of someone who makes such a fuss over "roles"
He does seem malicious with how he made gunslinger "correct" OP after giving him an upgrade just to make wizard's non-divination abilities obsolete. The rest of the party seems innocent enough.
@@alicehiess6508 to be doubly fair... MCH is currently the lowest dps class of them all in Dawntrail so that poor gunslinger will never keep up if we apply ffxiv logic
to be triply fair, that’s more a failure of the devs failure to match their design intent than the design itself. Classes are meant to have dps and utility inversely proportional. So classes like dnc and rdm are meant to have the lowest damage of their role while classes like mch and blm are meant to have the highest. Sadly SE tends not to balance things as intended till the middle-end of an expansion
I don't know if I ever watched Walking with Dinosaurs, but I watched the Disney movie, watched lots of the Land Before Time movies, rented this old-ass dinosaur animated series from Blockbuster that I do not remember much of, played Jurrasic Park games, played the Eyewitness Dinosaur Hunter game, had lots of dinosaur books... little girl me liked dinosaurs.
As someone who plays FF14, there's a meme about healers being green DPS for a reason lol. Yes, healer kits generally have a lot of healing/buffing/shielding skills, but they all notably have a DPS skill, a DoT skill, and a damage AOE skill. They're not just heal bots. Heck, Sage is essentially just a healer with a gun, and shooting people restores health to whoever they link with. It is LITERALLY a DPS role packaged as a healer
Hey Crispy, Nightfall Fallen S.A.B.E.R. with Arc Burn and Grounded modifiers actually traumatised me to the point of never playing that Strike ever again. It didn't help that Destiny 1 was one of my first experiences playing an FPS lol.
One time a bug landed on my hand, i screamed like a little girl and shook my hand wildly. The dog looks up and gives me look that roughly translates to, “what now?”.
Sorry about the mini rant in advance. It's just I've just been playing FFXIV for 10 years & I'm a casual mentor which is someone who knows the game & offers tips & such just doesn't have mentor title/role in the game with the little crown by my name About the story of FFXIV: First off, it's odd that the DM thinks that an MMORPG & TTRPG is going to be exactly the same. Secondly, a light party in FFXIV consists of a tank, healer, and two DPS so if they wanted to make the party like it is in the game than they already had that & better yet could have just played FFXIV TTRPG instead. Thirdly, the DM was 100% playing favorites with gunslinger, or if they weren't, then they didn't know how the FFXIV party system works because it's possible to have 2 ranged DPS with one using more magic to deal damage & the other used more machines to do damage. Lastly, the "know your role" nonsense is always annoying not only because in FFXIV everyone is kind of a DPS just that they also do things like healing others or keep the mobs & bosses off each other. Heck Red mage is literally a DPS who can act as a backup healer if the healer is either struggling or they went down & need resed. So when you have jobs that can do more than just be a tank, healer, or DPS in the game they're trying to take inspiration from then it makes no sense to put that into your DnD campaign, especially since DnD is not FFXIV so even if that was how it worked in FFXIV it doesn't work in DnD like that Why do I have a sneaky suspension that the DM is the type of FFXIV player that does something that is bad dungeon edict like pulling mods into a boss area but then gets upset with the person who is trying to give them advice on it because they're just a (insert DPS, Healer, Tank) & shouldn't be advicing the ( insert Tank, Healer, DPS) on their job
For the "know your role" story, it's even dumber when you factor in how final fantasy 14 works. Not only are you expected to have multiple DPS per party, but in that game physical DPS and magical DPS are considered 2 different roles. So no, a wizard would not be stepping on a gunslingers toes in any way.
Some of the healers do their healing BY doing damage! I forget which of the like 16 classes that is but I know that's how a couple work. And everyone knows the only truly important part is to make sure the tank can hold aggro. Otherwise everyone should be doing as much damage as possible in a raid. That's the whole point. If the wizard is supposed to be the healer, what is he meant to be doing when no one needs healing? You cast something that helps end the fight. I'm so confused
In my current D&D party I am unironically the only member who *isn't* DPS. We have an incredibly OP Paladin, an incredibly OP Artificer and a... comparatively mundane fighter. And then my Bard who mostly stands on the sidelines buffing the others while *occasionally* pulling some magic shenanigans if the situation is right.
the gunslinger thing is funny because the equivalent class in FFXIV has been suffering from not having as much utility as other physical ranged classes for a couple expansions now... so I'd be expecting a caster class to out dps it anyways 😅
"Dinosaur infested"? They live there. It's their natural habitat. Sounds like it's an adventurer infested jungle to me. Also, yes, I did watch Walking With Dinosaurs on repeat as a child... and an adult
Story 2 was 100% DM just making excuses for favoritism. I play FF14, there's literally 4 magic DPS classes with one literally being a book user with a side story on reclaiming ancient arcane arts and history. Parties are also 1 Tank, 1 Healer and 2 DPS by default.
DM just wanted a tool to move the original party along in his plot. Probably used FFXIV and the common DPS/tank/healer to excuse denying OP any place in the game outside skill checks.
Yeahhh two of my best friends growing up were Puerto Rican, learned Spanish first, learned English forgot Spanish and then proceeded to fail highschool spanish.
I love that electric corridor exactly because others hate it so much. I just always rush to it first and complete it for the rest of the strike team so they don't have to suffer xD
The syory with the DM that asked OP to save the party from the sinosaur forest only to then undermine OP's actions/plays in the game definitely sounds to me like someone taking advantage of a friend while only wabting tonplay with the other people. If DM won't be fair, either walk away from the table or talk directly to the other players to see if they can back you up.
When I started out I couldn't find a group at college, so I made a club. Rapidly I became the sole GM for a rapidly expanding group of people (maxed out at like 17 or something). It was rough, but I hung in there, and people kept coming back so I guess I did ok. Eventually I shanghai'd one of the players into being secondary DM, which cut my group down to like... 9 or 12.
I don't know why, but that Dragon transformation ring reminds me of my first and really only campaign where the DM had a PC that got a fuckin wraith, his friend also got a wraith, my friend got to become a god of death, and myself and my 2 other friends were basically fodder characters. DM said he was gonna do something to equal out power except what he actually did was buff himself and the other 2 more while leaving my paladin and the druids as fodder.
No I watched Waking With Dinosaurs on repeat all the time as a kid.... somedays I catch myself doing now as an adult too... I love dinosaurs what can I say?
I think what was going on in the second story is that dm wanted op to be the smart one to dump exposition and lore and nothing else. So anytime they try doing anything dm makes it obsolete
Yeah, definitely read like DM only wanted OP to join so somebody could remember his plot while getting the party through skill checks they didn't prepare for. DM didn't want a new player, just a tool to continue his story.
Infinite Lasers Story. Well from the title I thought it would be some rules lawyer trying to justify why their particular weapon or magical attack should have infinite shots or something. But no. It was much worse. And while I am a fan of narrow corridors for defensive features, they should not be used in every corridor of your structure/ dungeon. And spamming the same puzzles over and over is just a brain killer. In fact too many puzzles of different kinds are bad enough. But this was ridiculous.
I went in expecting a DM constantly using lasers. Wound up getting that alongside mismanaging a group. Cherry on top was a DMPC that was tame compared to others yet still not good.
Yeah giving a player a ring that turns them into a Dragon and a Super Genius, while another player is not allowed to take any damage spells and can change into a wolf is as blatant favoritism as you can get. Then have that Player with the ring Berate and point out all the other players mistakes is just the cherry on top.
Seemed less like blatant favoritism as much as wanting OP to be an NPC guide to the "real" players the game was intended for. Gunslinger on their own is no more guilty than the paladin and oracle.
@@DaMuss-e2w Obviously not because I didn't defend the DM's actions or say OP being a glorified NPC was good. Looks like I wasn't blatant enough in condemning DM.
Drinking a beer or two over multiple hours of DND is fine. Drinking AFTER the game as much as you like is fine! But if your DM tells you multiple times that you're drinking too much during the game and ruining it, and you don't care, you don't want to play DND. You want to hang out with your friends and get drunk and pretend to be an asshole. Which is also fine, but don't pretend it's actually DND and waste a real gamer's time.
I'm new to dnd and haven't played with a real DM yet, I've always been worried I'd be too awkward or too unsure of what to do. My brothers and I are trying to use chatgpt as our DM just to get some experience but aside from the fact we're all over the place we are enjoying ourselves and look forward to our sessions when we can get together. I'm also trying a solo campaign with chat with a different character to understand some things better, but I still feel like I'll be too awkward and in the way.

Oh and after like lv 14 you can just change your form at the start of a turn while getting other benefits
I am a little confused about the second story. Since when is a gunslinger a good dps in pathfinder? You can’t add dex to guns damage in that system. Usually that role would go to the fighter or barbarian.
@@Notagain-y6o IIRC, they could do dex to damage in 1e. In 2e, many Firearms have the "fatal" trait, which bumps their damage die up two sizes(D6 to D10, for example) on a Critical Hit, then adds one more. So a Pistol doing 2d6 normally now does 3d10, plus Specialization bonus, possible added damage from an alchemical round, then doubled.
The fact that a moth flew past them while playing *Middle-earth roleplay* and nobody thought to gently catch it, whisper a message to it, and then set it free like Gandalf is insane.

You can't just say "a zombie cockroach ate my biology project" and *not* expect us to want to hear that story
Right I feel like the back up characters from Grease over here all "🎶tell me more tell me more!🎶"
This. I was thinking about this, the whole video. 💀
A zombie cockroach sounds like it *is* a biology project.
"Know your role" story: If the DM plays a lot of FFXIV, they must not be very *good* at it. A *GOOD* FFXIV player knows:
EVERYONE. IS. A. DPS! *EVEN THE HEALERS!*
*SHOW HIM THE JOCAT VIDEOS!*
It's not the good players fault though blame the bad players
@TylerSkaggs-rj7cq That’s why he said the good player “had” to drop out. He was commenting on the bad situation-not assigning blame.
That story gives me "DM has crush on player" vibes
One of the perks of being a mom with 3 boys who are just as crazy about dinosaurs as I am is that no one gets to judge me for having a ton of Dinosaur themed stuff. We watch dinosaur everything, some of them a few hundred times. It's awesome 😂
Dinosaurs are cool
@genericname2747 I completely agree. spinosaurus is my favorite.
I got my nieces hooked so I can have an excuse to rewatch it
I am a forty year old married man and we have dinosaur bed sheets. Dino-snore :D
@@zerothehero6100 I'm just wondering, if they wanted to run things like FFXIV, why not just use the FFXIV TTRPG?
Seemed like DM only wanted OP in the game for passing knowledge checks and taking notes while the original players got the actual adventure. I have no doubt DM would pull the same trick using oracle or paladin.
@@BastetMusicIt may not have been out at the time of the story.
To be fair, most party comps have one ranged dps or caster and one melee dps.
+4 - or to standard dragonform bonus, which for a martial class is usually WAY lower than standard)
In short, GM isn't doing any favor to either the 'slinger or the wizard.
THE POOR DM IN THAT LAST STORY OMGG I hope she gets better players I PRAY she gets better players!!!!!!!!

Walking with dinosaurs, Destiny, humor, hilarious skits, and Dnd?!?
This channel is a total jackpot! Consider me subscribed!
Not just you, Crispy. I watched Walking with Dinosaurs. Parents taped it for me and for a good while I binged through the entire thing *daily*.
WWD was the GOAT.
I wasn’t prepared to see walking with dinosaurs here. That was like a sleeper activation phrase.
Yeah, I don't even know FF meta like that but I know the roles as they've been copied into other games and that felt off to me.
Yeah, he probably is lying to the OP.
It's even worse, considering how powerful black mage dps is. The FFXIV comparison the DM used doesn't hold any water.
I'm looking forward to the zombie cockroach and biology project story!
Same! That's two groups that you could divide up. Mixing the newbies amongst the veterans.
Maybe play in the same world?
These skits have me laughing so much. The choose your character one especially was really funny.
I was on my way to say this I don't even play that game but my friends do and talk about this all the time
I freakin' LOOOVED Walking With Dinosaurs as a kid!

The shanks make me start screaming in horror whenever I’m in a raid, they’re so awful. Especially when they sneak up behind you and you turn around to shoot them only to watch as they explode in your face
Its really funny to see all the FF14 players jump out of their roulettes to call BS and dump all over this DM in story two.
Yep.
2:31 this will drastically affect fishing season
Don’t worry, Crispy, my brother was a MASSIVE fan of Walking with Dinosaurs. He wouldn’t let us watch much else
For ppl who are scared to try ttrpg with groups but still like the game style/play, try solo play! There are many solo ttrpgs to find and may boost your morale for playing in groups again. Or just have fun playing solo!
can you name some games?? I'm genuinely curious
yes but its more fun with prisoners, I mean other players/witnesses.
All I can say about that second story is, yeesh.
That DM was prick, at best.
Walking with dinosaurs on repeat. Hell yeah
Walking with Dinosaurs is indeed absolute peak. Have you seen Prehistoric Planet Crispy?
I DID! It was much much later, but it was one of the first DvDs my parents ever got me! We had VHS for so long.
"The Smart Guy???"
That roommate was an actual biohazard.

AHAH! add that to another tally of queer people watching walking with dinosaurs as a child.
My boyfriend and I loved it as kids.
The SABER strike.... i. I get you crispy. I understand. That touched my soul.
Fallen S.A.B.E.R strike is one of my favorites and the arc room is awesome.
*I STILL HAVE MY CHILDHOOD VHS COPIES OF WALKING WITH DINOSAURS. THAT SHIT WAS MY PRIDE AND JOY AS A CHILD.*
A... zombie cockroach? We gotta hear about that, Crispy. :D
The thoguht of the dm in second story just wanting to show op:
"see? What if he'd do your role better than you? Do you now understand why i need you to deal no damage?"
Is fucking hilarious xD
The Healer is also supposed to damage enemies whenever they have the opportunity, not just stand around waiting to reverse any HP Loss the others suffer, and the DPS...well they obviously focus on DPS and do most of it, but ya know
Perfect Dungeon Meshi reference, loved it.
FFXIV and TTRPG player here whos planning on running the FFXIV TTRPG starter kit scenerio for some friends in the future. That guy in the second story doesnt speak for us. I dont know where he got the idea that Enrage mechanics are at all a thing in DnD outside of extremely niche scenes where the party is just on a time limit in general, I have to assume this was the first ever game they DMed and only had FFXIV to reference for inspiration.
if you, the dm, made destiny outside of d&destiny, you need to go into a corner for a time-out and think LONG and hard about what you just did (said as an autistic with a destiny hyperfixation)
EDIT: holy shit last person, i desperately hope you find better friends and a group you mesh with well. manifesting you a better group or something, your wizard deserves to have her story written in full with people who care about it and your dm deserves a group who loves what she does. if there’s an off chance you’re reading this, best wishes.
Dont worry crispy, i too watched walking with dinosaurs on repeat. (Now is loving dinosaurs an enby+ace thing is what i'm wondering lmao)
Their FFXIV logic isnt even correct! RANGED MAGIC DOES MORE DMG THAN RANGED PHYS! also 2 dps in a 4 person comp is regular in 14
To be fair unlike in dnd ffxiv casters tend to have less utility than physical ranged. Though rdm and mch are exceptions
@@alicehiess6508 its lowest rdps, meaning including buffs, not personal dps. Its not really a failing since someone needs to always be at the bottom

19:56 greetings from Poland, on session which I DM for my friends every player is drunk as heck
Sorry about the mini rant in advance. It's just I've just been playing FFXIV for 10 years & I'm a casual mentor which is someone who knows the game & offers tips & such just doesn't have mentor title/role in the game with the little crown by my name
About the story of FFXIV: First off, it's odd that the DM thinks that an MMORPG & TTRPG is going to be exactly the same. So when you have jobs that can do more than just be a tank, healer, or DPS in the game they're trying to take inspiration from then it makes no sense to put that into your DnD campaign, especially since DnD is not FFXIV so even if that was how it worked in FFXIV it doesn't work in DnD like that
Why do I have a sneaky suspension that the DM is the type of FFXIV player that does something that is bad dungeon edict like pulling mods into a boss area but then gets upset with the person who is trying to give them advice on it because they're just a (insert DPS, Healer, Tank) & shouldn't be advicing the ( insert Tank, Healer, DPS) on their job

I was gonna post something like this. If they play 14, they should know that healers are supposed to help with dps when not healing lmao.
@thelastremnantofevil that too. Everyone needs to be doing damage, cause damage is how you end fights
@@roselover411 Sage. you're thinking of sage, aka the healer with a GUN XD
@@jingo4754 Four LASER GUNS to be precise (*technically* some sort of magic rocks or whatever but that's no fun)
Sweet Ghost palisman ya got there.
If I remember correctly Sage is a healer that heals by shooting enemies
@@ArcCaravan were you the dm? lol
@@DaMuss-e2w Obviously not because I didn't defend the DM's actions or say OP being a glorified NPC was good. Looks like I wasn't blatant enough in condemning DM.
Omg yeah that DM 🤯
15:40 Me too Crispy. Me too.
“The smart guy?”
3:43 mayhaps I did, indeed there is a possibility, indubitably I could've, I definitwly watched the seamonsters one way too much😂
I didn't watch walking with dinosaurs on repeat, I watched Disney's Dinosaur on repeat
If i was the wizard in the 2nd story i would slope off to the pub
I'm new to dnd and haven't played with a real DM yet, I've always been worried I'd be too awkward or too unsure of what to do. My brothers and I are trying to use chatgpt as our DM just to get some experience but aside from the fact we're all over the place we are enjoying ourselves and look forward to our sessions when we can get together. I'm also trying a solo campaign with chat with a different character to understand some things better, but I still feel like I'll be too awkward and in the way.
That dude on first post tho he was fighting the weird things from Fallout New Vegas
"we only need 1 DPS!" I have a party of 5 and 3 are of them are crazy damage dealers. Just... I dunno Get Good??
24:54 do the Crispy clones count as roommates
18:26 you don’t think that people have roommates because we just really love having strangers up in our business all the time, do you? Rent is too high for most people.
My druid in shapechange (adult dragon) in their starform having full resistance to bludgeoning, slashing, and peircing along with a full imunity and a 22 ac due to my magic items
Oh and a 23 Saving throw DC im tankier than our fighter and since i linger in dragon form each i dividual bit of damage has to be more than 46 points to even make me roll a saving throw (auto 10 on concentrations with a 13 con saving throw base can roll higher just not lower)
And you know what i LOVE my stupid tanky druid stars druid is insane 3 modes all usable, proficency mod castings of guiding bolt per day, proficiency mod bonus or detrement to attacks, saving throws, or skills. Oh and after like lv 14 you can just change your form at the start of a turn while getting other benefits
I watched walking with dinosaurs so many times!
I am a little confused about the second story. Since when is a gunslinger a good dps in pathfinder? You can’t add dex to guns damage in that system. Usually that role would go to the fighter or barbarian.
Didn't they say in the story that the "gunslinger" was just a fighter with guns?
@ Yeah. What I am saying is in pathfinder, you really don’t want to be a dps if you are going to fight at range.
@@damienhailey118 Can they also up their damage by using Grit for certain things?
