  • Hiking the long-distance trail GR131 across the main Canary Islands from coast to coast.
The Canary Islands is a volcanic archipelago off the coast of northwest Africa with a stunning diversity of landscapes, from the arid plains of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, to the lush evergreen and singing forests of La Gomera and La Palma, with Gran Canaria and its fire-withstanding and regenerative pine forests in between. While Tenerife and its majestic active volcano El Teide (3715 meters/12188 feet) towers over the skies and all the other islands.
During a month of travels I trekked 500 kilometers (310 miles) across most of the islands and summited El Teide just in time for sunrise, carrying everything I needed with me in an ultralight backpacking setup. This second part of a three-part series feature Tenerife and summiting of El Teide during sunrise.
    Chapters:
    0:00 Intro
    0:45 North Tenerife
3:21 The plateau before El Teide
    4:45 Climbing El Teide
7:36 The plateau after El Teide
    9:39 South Tenerife
Please leave comments below on how I could improve for future videoes.

Awesome video!! Did you climb to the peak of mountain Tiede with a permission? I am planning to climb it but seems hard to get a permit, and I plan to follow the route “EI Portillo-Montana Blanca-La Fortaleza”, do you know is this route free? And could you please share your route if possible, many thanks!❤❤

Hi, it took us four long days during january 2023, from La Esperanza to Arona. But would suggest to have one or two additional days at disposal for the trip. Be aware that the volcano El Teide occasionally receive snow during winter leading to trail closures.

Great Video, thank you very much
for all the information! Just a quick question, did you find any water at La Caldera? There is conflicting information about this subject.. Thanks for your help!

Hi, sorry for the late answer! Yes you can find water at the camping spot La Caldera. It is near the recreativity zone, down at the open grass field. Might be marked "non potabile" and would be wise to treat it before drinking. Also, be aware that some trails might be closed because of the big forest fire in the area earlier in August!
