    I spent a few months back in the 80s on Rota conducting research. Even getting a phone line outside of the island wasn’t easy back then. Loved the people and the island!

    Looks wonderful. Thanks for sharing! I'm planning to circumnavigate the Pacific under sail in a few years and had already decided to visit Saipan. After seeing your video I'll plan to visit Rota as well.

    Was just in Guam, wanted to visit Saipan and Tinian, but the typhoon warning made me play it safe for now, but now I absolutely need to add Rota to my itinerary when I make it back. Glad it’s a relatively short flight from Narita.

    Thanks for sharing, great job on the video. do you have any waterfalls you might suggest?

    • @kaikytravels
      @kaikytravels  ปีที่แล้ว

      Check out Okgok Waterfalls! I’d also recommend reaching out to the Fish & Wildlife Office. If they’re not in charge of conserving that area, they’ll point you in the right direction. When we were going to hike to another area on Rota, they checked the terrain & let us know when it was safe/unsafe.
      I also know based on where you’re going, a local would be happy to be help. I’m also not sure if the hike to the waterfall crosses into private land, so reaching out to the govt. department will be your best bet to know how to get there, unless you know a local. Hope that helps!

    Rota has entered our list of places for my wife and I to relocate to, sometime in the future, and live out the rest of our days. We are from the mainland United States, currently in Oregon. Do you have any comments or advice for us? Thanks... Eric

    • @kaikytravels
      @kaikytravels  ปีที่แล้ว

      We've met a couple who retired in Rota from the mainland and LOVE IT! Have you been to Rota before? It's a very slow-paced lifestyle and all your food & clothing shopping will be mom & pop stores (unless you cargo from Guam or Saipan). If you're looking for an island that's more mainland, that would likely be Guam.
      I'd take a look at healthcare needs and if anything absolutely essential is offered on Rota (or Guam, Tinian, or Saipan). Also is there anything specific that's making you want to move to Rota? If so, I'd be able to give more insight! -Heaven

      @@kaikytravels Thanks very much for your response. We will be wanting to move permanently to a tropical location sometime in the future, hopefully somewhere in the South Pacific. The main reason for wanting to move to Rota, or to any place like it, is because of the very laid-back lifestyle and quiet atmosphere that you described. I have been looking for places that have no traffic lights, and I only just discovered Rota about one week ago, and I was astonished to discover that it is a US Territory. I feel like a fool for having only just now discovered it!!! I took a trip to Molokai, Hawaii about five years ago to scout it out as a possible future destination. I loved it. I am assuming that the lifestyle on Rota is somewhat similar to Molokai, which is an island with very little tourism and very quiet, no real nightlife. I think I might enjoy Rota more because, from what I've seen, it seems to have more lush green landscape, which I love. Add to it turquoise waters and white sand and snorkeling, and it sounds like the place for me. We currently live in Oregon on the mainland, and our current lifestyle is already very minimalist and simple, so much so that moving to Rota would probably increase our activity. Best Regards, Eric

      @@kaikytravels Oh, I forgot to ask: Where would you say is the best place to stay in Rota? Do you know if there are any long-term rentals available? Perhaps for at least a month or maybe even longer? And is there a place to rent a car on the island? Thanks... Eric

    • @kaikytravels
      @kaikytravels  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Eric!@@dogperday I'm so sorry I missed your response! Rota may definitely be your place. (: For long-term rentals, I actually suggest going for a hotel for the first week (Coral Garden Hotel or Valentino Hotel) and then talking to locals. That way you can see the area and whether you'd prefer staying in the Village or Sinapalo, which are opposite sides of the island. If you'd also like a direct contact, my auntie can help you. If you message me on Instagram @kaiky.travels I can send you the info! Also for car rentals, here's a great website: diverota.com/rentalcars.htm I know NAAI car rentals offers monthly rentals. You may also want to rent a car short-term, then talk to locals though after arriving to see if anyone is selling a used car. It may be more affordable that way. I also can send Facebook group recommendations if you prefer to ask locals before arriving. (: I hope this helps and that you're still interested in going to Rota! We can't wait to go back!
