  • There is no more powerful influence on posture and movement than your visual system. Myopia, or nearsightedness, is predicted to affect almost half the world's population by the year 2050.
    In this video, I interview Dr. Samantha Slotnick, a doctor of optometry in Scarsdale, New York.
    drslotnick.com/
    about the role of vision as it relates to posture and movement and specifically about the subject of myopia.

    Hell, yes!! You are absolutely not wrong there. Overprescription of a minus lens can be a factor as the eyes have to overwork which causes tension in the face, neck, and back.

    A plus lens for near work helped me reduce my myopia from -2.25 to -0.75. Otis Brown has some good information on the eyes refractive state.

      I really enjoy these types of videos… the why or the root cause of the patterns we learn in pri. I would love your input on the impact sports have on posture… the dance and boxing videos are great… as a kid I played basketball and 3 types of football over the same weekend. I feel like my posture and movement was amazing… as I got older and played less sport and more time in front of the screen I have lost athleticism and my posture has got worse. Thanks again for all that you do

    Couldn't be more serendipity of this video. Got my new contacts out of the mailbox without a toric, 15 minutes later saw this video. I have so much time in front of the monitor. And using a mandibular splint very regularly the past 2 or 3 weeks I had acute loss of near Vision in the right eye which was the toric eye. A little scary but there's been so much crap on this journey I'm hardened. I'm trying my plus glasses again I got at Prime several years ago but this whole discussion here is fabulous fresh as I've pondered my peripheral fields, convergence and forward neck for a week now again sorting out what I'm not covering optimally.

    Hi Neal, I haven't commented before and I love your work!
    I've had a theory that forward head posture is partially a result of the fact that when you wear glasses, the focus point is moved "forward", slightly in front of the eyes, and the body perceives that your whole head should be more forward perhaps in order to "see better." When I have worn contacts I think I generally had better posture. However these days I mostly wear glasses, and I feel like it's almost impossible to train myself to have good posture.
    It also seems that people with overall poor skeletal facial development, like small jaws, not enough room for their teeth, and high dental arches, have difficulty breathing well if the head is is the correct position, and the forward head position helps to open up the airway. Perhaps people with overall poor facial development are also more likely to develop myopia and have a poorer physical health in general. All of these things are related.
    The forward head posture seems to be correlated with an anxious feeling in the body and tension, like you spoke about. The forward posture is a defensive posture, like a position you would be in if looking out for danger or anticipating an attack... All this leads me to believe that the combination of poor skeletal facial development, myopia, and the anxiety inducing forward head posture leads these individuals to be destined to a life of poor posture and anxiety... how can we help ourselves? 🤣

      In my work, I haven't seen glasses as being a problem for people. Some people simply prefer contacts over glasses or vice versa. I see more clearly and feel better with glasses than contacts. However, paragraphs #2 and #3 are correct in the possible relatedness of the issues you describe.

    • @NealHallinan
      @NealHallinan  2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      That's a completely different story because a blind person's visual cortex simply won't be "normal". I don't have the answer. But I have read articles that when trying to restore a blind individuals sight, it is very difficult because the brain has no "history" as to what it is looking at (or something like that) It's actually quite interesting. If you google it, you'll find it.

    spooky timing with the upload of this video. I saw a previous video you did on "Psoas secrets" a week ago, and had an epiphany today i wanted to comment and ask you about. would it be fair to say that left eye/right eye dominance may be a primary cause of jaw/cranial imbalance and any imbalances downstream?

    Hey Neal! Im a fan of your videos and information. I am very similar to how you were in the past with the lateral pelvic tilt. I have been struggling with it for a while now. I went to a chiropractor and they said I have a twisted pelvis/left aic pattern. The asymmetry in my hips and muscle soreness and tightness in my pelvis and lower back have been causing me issues for a while now. My left aic pattern has also caused problems going all the way up my body in my neck and head and face. My jaw is turned to the right on the side where my pelvis goes up higher. It has caused me a lot of issues overtime of swallowing, chewing and issues with my eyes where it can be hard to focus my vision without blinking a lot. My chiropractor advised me that I could get a mouth guard to help me with my issue and I am seeing my dentist soon about it. Is there any advise you could give to me about this and which mouth guards/splints help the best with this? I feel a little lost and hopeless the physical therapy ive been doing barely helps and I know youre an expert at this. Also im 23 and from Toronto.

    • @NealHallinan
      @NealHallinan  2 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      I suggest you see Jacqui Walt, who has taken many PRI courses, and is in Toronto. If a jaw is to the right, it's complicated. You may need a dentist to make a splint, but I wouldn't do it without guidance from a PRI therapist. I'd highly recommend watching the interview I did about braces from about 4 or 5 months ago. It's 1.5 hours about how PRI and dental integration go together.

    i was in my past life a exaggerated left AIC pattern. did sort of get Plantar fasciitis ONLY in the right foot somehow you had said you had both feet. It was maybe not exactly Plantar fasciitis that i had but at times the muscle under that left foot just crazy cramp. then i noticed have bone growth or spur not sure ONLY on right foot heel at back of foot so much so would wear away the inside of that right shoe fabric.
    can we say for sure this caused by left AIC?
    and now that i have very much became a right AIC dominant pattern haha but somewhat as you state ie QL tightness if one out of a pattern brain just releases it by itself. will this bone growth on right back foot just go away by itself?
    thanks in advance

    Video seem to end abruptly is there another part coming? She never discussed how she trained her peripheral vision which very much what I want to do so that was disappointing. There wasn't a discussion over whether bifocals or the new lenses too forestall myopia are bad for posturing. There wasn't a discussion over the tactic optometrist use of making one eye stronger for far away objects and the other one for near.

    Yet it's fostering dependence on glasses and the prescription very often gets stronger to prove it.
    There are exercises that improve eyes that any one can do, the problem being in that it entails work every day for a little while. No one likes this restriction.
    One practice is to look at something ultra close and instantly focus on a far item. Rely on anything external to yourself is dependency.
    Relying on holistic well being is curative.
    We do not believe this concept as it is unpopular.
    If one losses the lenses the body has to adapt a clue of the holistic .

    I’m very nearly blind I use glasses except when I practice yoga. There’s a value in yoga called drishti means gaze. So if I keep my eyes from skating and focus on one point, even though i can’t see my leg position to my mat, in tandem with breathing I can one legged stand poses. Don’t believe what I say but do your own research and come to your own conclusions.

      The throat is between the brain and heart. If you're speaking from your brain (small world model of the universe), it will be higher. If speaking from the heart, it will come out deeper pitch. The more you're speaking from your small world thinking model, the more likely it is to be higher

      The throat is between both eyes the more the right eye is messed up (emotional, feminine) the more higher-ups pitched it will be. The more the left is messed up the lower it will be (masculine).
