    Way to go Dr. DE young. Stop the excessive focus on, " beautifully broken. . .mindset that rehearsed psychopathology as though it is noble. . .or even preferable.

    What he defines as works based righteousness is not what Catholic, Orthodox or any other tradition holds to as far as I know. These two major ones are often accused of this but I've totally never met or heard of a Catholic OR Orthodox person claiming they need to earn their way up to God by working hard *so that he will love them*. Orthodox particularly emphasize the idea that faith manifests itself in loving service and yes, hard work.
    Israel was brought out of Egypt by God, but they still participated in his saving work- which involved rituals, right conduct, war, and sacrifice. They did not by doing these things "deliver themselves from Egypt".

    several time this guy says that someone means exactly what they said and then extrapolates what another said into something that was clearly not said. What's the meaning? If you can just say that what is said does not mean something and what wasn't said does mean something, what's the point of reading this great book?
