      Jesus christ, get off your high horse, different countries have different cultures and their schools reflect that. "Humanity" isn't what's getting instilled in them, it's just Japanese culture and their values. I'd even argue that plenty of the things the schools do are unnecessary and even bad, but that's how it is for every country, Japan isn't doing anything better

      Whenever I see people bring the "high suicide" card, I like to remind them that the suicide rate has been declining since 2009. Japan has 16.8 per 100,000 in 2017. It doesn't even crack top 10 in countries anymore. Meanwhile in the U.S, it has been slowly increasing for the past decade and it has increased sharply recently up to on average 16.0 per 100,000 in 2018. That means Japan at this point, is no more likely to commit suicide than the US is.

    Im a bit confused, i live in europe and some of these seem semi-normal.
    Like in my school when teacher comes everyone has to stand to greet teacher out of respect. Cleaning your classroom fully included walls and also wardrobe room is done every year 3 times + regular cleaning every day. Also PE class requires shoes and warm clothing for outdoor cold weather. And being late is dependent on teachers, but can get you in a lot of trouble, including extra cleaning work and being forced to help in some kind of event.
    Does this not happen in usa ?

      I live in America but some these are normal here though we don't play janitor. Or change shoes for indoors vs outdoors. As for the dating thing there are some things in life you can try but it won't work to forbid it.

    • @Gir_0
      @Gir_0 6 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      This was mostly normal for me as well. I was more surprised at how relaxed the rules that they're saying are normal are.

    • @Antoto96
      @Antoto96 6 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      In American schools it is not required to clean after ourselves as that's what Janitors are paid for. I personally clean up after myself but American school believe it's the janitor's job and not the students. In addition we don't change shoes when entering because it's not an American thing to in general. And the only thing American kids do in the morning is stand up and sing the national anthem. It's ridiculous because I believe we need to add some of the habits that Japanese people do like cleaning classrooms and removing shoes. It'll make us all a better society.

    • @theresahall6197
      @theresahall6197 6 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Anthony Villanueva personally although I'm America I try not to make a mess but the janitor was in charge of cleaning. The idea of making kids clean the class would shock people here. And I tried to treat with respect my teachers. When I was annoyed with them I would draw my feeling rather than risk getting in trouble. Rule one is don't get on the boss bad side all alone.
      PS does anyone know how the hair dye lawsuit against Japan schools work out?

    I'm Japanese, some are true and false. I used to be educated from Japanese kindergarten to high school.
    In public elementary school, the pupils wear any clothes except tatoos, pierced, dyed hair.
    In high school, the students have to bring bought lunch or bento(lunchbox which were made in home)
    Japanese schools value social corporation, Japanese society are organized by high context culture.
    I think appearance and analog, traditional rules suck, but cleaning and served lunch are awesome.
    These are just my experiences and opinions, but private schools until high school are stricter.

    My school now seems strict compared to other western schools because Japanese schools aren't that much more strict.
    My school has some stupid rules:
    No phones allowed out at all (not even at break)
    No jewelry (watches are allowed)
    No hair dyeing (sometimes girls get away with black)
    No makeup (have to take it off if caught and get isolation) this includes nail polish
    Each form has to do litter picking once a school year for 30mins. (Happens every other week I think but it was only introduced last year)
    Strict uniform rules ( you need a tie logo blazer, logo jumper(not allowed to take it off without teachers permission),shirt, black trousers, black socks, black school shoes. No extreme hair cuts (punishment isolation for a day and you have to get it sorted)(short on the sides and a long comb over got me done.
    No touch rule: no pinching, punching, slapping, kicking, pushing in a queue
    And this is a public school in the UK.

    I mean at my high school guys can’t have tattoos, have hair longer than their collar otherwise they’re suspended, everyone gets their phones taken at the beginning of the day until the end of it and many more. We also have a uniform where we have to tuck our shirt in and wear a tie. For some reason though the girls have a lot less strict rules. There’s a lot more rules and it also depends your race what type of rules you have, but these Japanese schools sound pretty normal.

      night bird I don’t really know. It’s not common. Because it’s a Christian school in a very white part of the country so there might be something to do with that, it’s a very raw occurrence to see schools around her have different rules depending race and make guys keep their hair short. But I believe that this sorta thing could happen in almost any Western country in the right circumstances if it went undetected.

    I took a year of public school (grade one) in Japan when I lived there with my family and I vividly remember cleaning our classrooms and hallways as well as serving lunch to my classmates and brushing our teeth afterwards! Our uniforms were very specific, we would wear our blazers and skirts over shorts and then remove the skirts when we got to school. We also had to change from blouses into polo shirts and I remember being horrified the first day having to change in the classroom because nobody had told me to wear a tank top underneath my blouse! I begged my teacher to let me change in the bathroom that day and from then on I made sure to wear one under my shirt!

  • @cxrebii

    I live in the UK and in my school, you literally aren't allowed to do anything. No jewellery, a strict school uniform, no bathroom usage in lesson time, no bright clothing or accessories, no tattoos or even temporary henna, no fruit drinks--only plain water, a one-way system through the school, lining up after every long and short break to be collected by your subject teacher, lunches can't be eaten anywhere outside the cafeteria (so no snacks in the playgrounds), no phones at all--if it's just seen it will be confiscated for up to three months, regardless of whether or not it's for an emergency. Late? Don't worry, thanks for coming to school but even though you clearly said you missed the morning because you threw up, I'm afraid I still have to give you a two hour detention. Like ??? You get punished less missing an entire day vs half a day. Why???
    I could go on but I'll stop now for my own sanity.
    Seriously, I despise my school.

    My school is also strict. We need to wear belt to school everyday, if we forgot we will need to use ropes as our belts like a suspender as a punishment. Many schools still do 6 days of school in a week. You aren't allowed to use your phone in break time only when finishing school. We have 4 different uniforms and if we wear the wrong one, you will be put in a room as small as an isolation cell to do the work that your teacher gives you. You aren't allowed to leave that room except on break time. You also need to dressup propperly. Shoes need to be black incuding the shoelaces. Socks needed to be white except on friday you need to use black and you need to have your socks 5 cm above your shoe. The punishments are having us to be barefoot for the enire school. After school we are allowed to take our shoes and socks back. The minimum passing score is 75. Thats why many students don't pass. You're not allowed to drink without permission too, but no punishments for that luckily. Getting late often might result in failing in the school and not pass. Any students getting caught swearing is also punished ( only warning for this one). We are not allowed to bring food and drinks outsids the canteen except for water. School says that it is not easy to clean them up if they spill or fall over. Does any of this things happen to you?

    At 5:25, it mentioned that students arriving late frequently would be given extra work, such as cleaning duties or extra assignments.
    In parts of Canada, especially Nova Scotia, if a student showed up late for no legitimate reason (such as a medical appointment, judicial matters, sporting event, or a Music Festival), they would have to pick up a Late Slip. Consequences included warnings, detention, assignments, or even suspension from school.
    In fact, during my Junior High days in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, during the late 1980s, I remember my Grade 7 teacher giving one of her students an assignment as punishment for being frequently late for school.
    When Nova Scotia implemented their "School Code of Conduct" in 2002 as a result of teachers and administrators abusing their authority, notably the infamous "Chicken Finger Incident" which severely embarrassed Canada and Nova Scotia at an international level, the new rules banned teachers from giving students extra assignments as a punishment.
    While Nova Scotia has a large Celtic population as most of their residents have Scottish ancestry, they also have a lot of people with German Ancestry.
    In German culture, punctuality shows diligence much like the Japanese counterpart, which is why lateness for no legitimate reason is taboo in Nova Scotia.

    i personally really like most of the rules that japanese schools have. it teaches respect, and punctuality & much more. however, the downfall of this is the amount of pressure these schools put on the students. moreover, this could also cause some to rebel, and they'll get reprimanded but we cannot blame said student for doing so.

    I'm a high school teacher in the US and I can't imagine these rules being enforced at the schools I've worked at. Kids don't clean up and sometimes make messes. Sometimes I have to take their phones away because they're always on their phones. Kids can wear whatever they want and they don't smoke at school but they use vapes, ecigs, juuls, and oil cartridges in the bathrooms. Some kids are consistently late to class every day. My students fall asleep from being up really late. No one changes shoes, matte of fact the kids wear their outside shoes and then put them on chairs and desks. I'm a teacher and even I sit on the desks sometimes.

      USA is more freedom than Japan, and if you are the genius student studies in American school you can skip the grade. American teenagers are more independent than any countries teenagers because when the American teenagers were 18 years old their parents let them live on their own. And America social not very care for the university diploma certificate, if you too smart think university is boring, you can drop out the school like Steve Jobs and you also can be a successful person. Japan is a hereditary country, if you are Japanese and you parent are politician you will be a politician. Not like in America, anyone can become the USA president as long as you are American.
