    In my opinion, you should never attach a camera with heavy lens, (70-200 onwards), by the camera body. The lens mount is not intended to cope with that sort of stress particularly when moving around

      Excellent point! I do find that’s when the additional lens strap comes in handy. Helps keep everything in place when I’m taking more steps than photos.

    Hiya, I am really interested on how you are carrying your binoculars on your shoulder . That seems like a really good place to keep it.

      Hey! So I had this fly fishing clip for my net that I wasn’t using. I just attached the ring to my binoculars and clip it. Because it’s made for a net it holds the weight of my binoculars. Look up Gear Keeper Net Retractor. Thank you so much for the comment. Really appreciate it.

    I bought the first Cotton Carrier the company put on the market and I just upgraded now for the latest model and I am very glad that I did that choice. My first one is still in perfect condition and when I go take picture with someone I bring the old one and let it try to the person that is with me and I never a bad complain about it. I also one that attach to the vest and carry my smaller camera with me almost equal to my hip and it is a great duo. It is worth the money. When you pay $6,000.00 for a camera it is not for $129.00 that I will complain. Very good product.

    I've kept my eye on the Cotton Carrier products for a while now, but never wanted to pay their full price. BUT...I just scored a two camera Cotton Carrier vest in brand new condition from a photographer for $50! Couldn't believe it. It's still in the original packaging. He said he only used it once. One thing that is cool about your choice of putting the mount piece on the camera body is that when you go to mount your camera and lens on a monopod or tripod your foot or L bracket is free to sit right into the tripod head. I'm looking forward to using the vest. I do a lot of hiking and have been using a sling strap. It's great, but I think the vest will distribute the weight better and keep the camera more stable on trail. Thanks for the overview!

      Absolutely! Hiking is why I switched to the harness. I appreciate you watching, and for the comment! Please come back and let me know how you’re enjoying it-

      Good to know you're too much of a cheapskate to pay for the proper kit. I hope anyone who ever hires you to take photos does not want to pay your full price. Maybe then you'll learn a lesson.

    Excellent video. Are the adapter plates of the two systems interchangeable? For example, if I had a camera with an adapter plate that slides into the Cotton Carrier holder, do I need to replace it in order to slide it into the Nicama?

    • @TheTexasTrailhead
      @TheTexasTrailhead  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hey there! So the plates themselves aren't interchangeable, but you can definitely use the same mount that screws into the bottom of the camera on each. They also each come with their own mounting system, so what you'll find is the difference is just the feel of the quality, but they're both the twist and unlock system. Did that answer your question? I can explore more if not-- thanks for watching either way!

    I am on a self-imposed budget (since my wife always says "another gadget for your camera!!??), I would go for the cheaper one, plus I go out only a few times a year so I can't justify the expensive Cotton version.
    I am concerned with the camera rotating on the harness when the L bracket is used.
    But, thank you for your review of the two products. You have helped me make my decision.

      I think if it’s heavy enough just let it sit in the slot. While hiking it barely moves. I have the 100-400 lens and it sits in there fine. -- you can tell the different in materials for sure, but not functionality.

      @@TheTexasTrailhead I used it for hiking and I even used it with my mountain bike and I had my 100-400 lens and it work like a charm. The quality of cotton carrier is great.

    Just occurred to me that I could put the Cotton Carrier adapter on my carrier (with base plate) and leave my Arca Swiss lens foot as it is. I have been wondering about the Cotton Carrier for a bit but was put off by the Arca Swiss compatibility.

      Yup! They sell their own adapter, but I’m sure you can find them elsewhere too. Thanks for checking out the video, really appreciate you taking the time to watch.

    I have had the Cotton system for many years. I only use it for extended holidays where I have a lot of walking to do. I do admit to looking like a a real clown though. 😂 I am wondering if the Nikama base discs fit in a Cotton harness. Are the discs interchangeable?

    • @TheTexasTrailhead
      @TheTexasTrailhead  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      They do. I left mine on when I got the cotton carrier. If you use the locking mechanism function, which I don’t, you’ll want to swap it out just for a higher quality. Otherwise it’s a flimsier plastic feel.
