Yes definitely, I agree that this was probably the best and most accurate explanation of the CAGED system that I've ever seen or heard, and I've listened to a few! The thing in particular that I love about this too, other than the thorough verbal explanation, is that sometimes teachers don't really realize that you can explain things all you want to and that's important, but at the end of the day, you have to actually SHOW SOMEONE WHERE, AND HOW TO PLAY IT ON THE NECK! 😂 You did a fantastic job of not only explaining it, but demonstrating how and where to play everything on the fretboard, at a slow enough pace for a respective listener to follow along. Great job, and thanks for posting man! 🙏🏼
If you want to know why CAGED is very useful for guitar fretboard visualization check out this lesson from Alex because he is a master at making things clear and easy to understand. Great lesson thanks.
I’m WHOLE! First time ever that someone has explained the CAGED system so that I understand it, and more importantly, so that I understand WHY it’s worth the bother! Thanks Alex!
Hi Alex. This is the best lesson I have heard on the caged system on TH-cam . Such an important system. Well done! I just forwarded this link to a bunch of my friends. Love the example with Hey Joe at the end of the lesson!
I really liked the D shape inversion in the key of C which I was unaware of and sounds so nice. I also had no idea you can get the next triad shape on the string sets by taking the top note up an octave I just didn't see it. A lot of takeaways and I thought I understood the caged system but I am happy to be proven wrong. And Hey Joe makes perfect sense as a practice song. Thanks for everything really helpful.
Great lesson. Extremely well explained. Love to see you do a lesson on Tom Waits' 'Telephone call from Istanbul' You may want to check out Vince Lee's version on YT too. Thanks for all the lessons as always Alex. 👍
I've only just discovered your channel Alex. I'm extremely humbled at watching you play. Your skill is extraordinary! And i thought i was a reasonable guitar player 😮 Some wonderful instructive lessons Thank you
I really got this caged, it took time, but I got it. But it still doesn’t really help me 😂 It fits with all the triads and tetrads shapes I learned already, so perfectly make sense. But still doesn’t really help… maybe when I’ll be a grownup ? Thanks anyway, it was a different way to see the thing, always interesting. Thanks Alex
"Chord butchery." Very useful terminology! I've long used CAGED but still found some nice tips in here. BTW, is that a Martin 0018? (Same as mine ...). (Followed up - nope, that Martin looks bigger than mine...?). Also, brilliant using Hey Joe to step through them all!
Hey Alex! Great lesson! Can you do a follow video to show how to use those shapes to comp or maybe solo like Hendrix did? Because using shapes like the "G" is hard :) I know that shape A and E are the easy ones, but I would love to learn some of that Hendrix moves :) Thank you
Good idea buddy, I’ll do a Hendrix-isms video very soon. Did you see my Motown/Soul video from a while back?.. that’s full of those types of moves; th-cam.com/video/x6PFaGEXhLA/w-d-xo.htmlsi=jQfvimAjc5kCNnHO
Very nice lessons indeed, not only this one and the rest are very good. What does a patreon mean? How do i become patreon, is it a monthly fee?where is the link?
ALEX FARRAN, try making a lesson showing each minor pentatonic boxes using the Major CAGED Shapes, the minor pentatonic boxes aren't going to be aligned with the Major CAGED Shapes. EXAMPLE if you are playing an A SHAPE/ E MAJOR chord, the minor pentatonic box would be? you have to do this for each major CAGED Shape and then play the minor pentatonic box
Sure thing, I could do a Part 2 where we chuck the minor pentatonic at it too, no problem at all. I think where people go wrong, and where it sounds like you’re possibly getting confused, is that you mustn’t think of the Major and Minor pentatonics as the same thing. Start with a clean slate and forget about the coincidental “visual” relationship to start with. Minor pentatonic shape 1 is in the “E shape”, shape 4 is in the “A shape” etc
@@AlexFarranGuitar Yes make a Part 2, What I'm saying is most of the Minor CAGED shapes you can't play and most people don't use the Minor CAGED shapes. instead of playing Major CAGED shapes with Major pentatonic which not make a video showing Major CAGED shapes using the MINOR pentatonic because its not the pentatonic box is going to be displaced with the CAGED shape for the Box.
The clearest and most comprehensive explanation of the CAGED system I've ever seen. The practical application with Hey Joe is magical. Thanks!
Thank you so much Trever!.. that’s really kind of you to say! Glad you found it useful 🙏🏻

Hey man, what about playing at jazz standard like all the things you are does it make sense for cage for a tune like that?
Yeah sure thing, anything can be applied to the CAGED system (or vice-versa)
