Frigidaire French Door Refrigerator - Loud Noise - Quick Fix 👀

- Try this before you start replacing parts. This is an easy fix for the ice maker in the Frigidaire 26.8 cu. ft. French Door Refrigerator in Stainless Steel. It can be a lot of work to defrost a refrigerator. So I am just going to defrost the ice maker. It can take a month to defrost but it takes almost zero effort to fix this ice cube maker.
If you don't want to take all the food out to fully defrost your refrigerator than just take out the ice tray. Even with the doors closed and the refrigerator still on this will eventually defrost the ice maker.

OMG! This totally worked. I only had to keep the ice tray out for 5 hrs and it worked. My fridge was making the moaning noise for a few weeks but last night it started making a flapping noise when the door was closed. My refrigerator is now quite as a mouse. Thank you!

Dude, THANK YOU. I was pulling my hair out with that annoying buzzing noise. Saw your video, and checked behind the ice tray and there was a huge ice block on the ice maker module. Used my heat gun to quickly defrost and it went away instantly.
That's awesome! Yeah a good defrost will do the trick.
That was extremely helpful, pulled the ice bin held my heat gun on middle setting (could use a hair dryer) pushed button and in 3 minutes presto!
That's Awesome! They say a heat gun is better than a hair dryer. You have a little more control with a heat gun. But yeah if you get to it quick enough it's not that tough of a fix.
I was watching hockey and literally heard this problem happen. Found your video pretty quickly. 4-5 hours of that ice tray out. Also I turned the freezer setting down to the lowest. But thank you so much, you alleviated the panic right away and that alone was huge.

@@louisletourneau3429 Yes this is just a quick defrost. It will freeze up again. But if you have time to plan out a full defrost that will last longer.
@ThatHobby the sound we have is more like a valve that periodically open to fill water . But it's too frequent to be that ....
I did this and it worked! However, now it isn’t making ice cubes do you know why that might be?
Yeah it probably has a lot of ice built up behind the ice maker. The water line is probably frozen.

This will start the defrosting process too. If you bang on it that could break up some of the ice on the back of the refrigerator and that could help a little but it really just needs to be defrosted.

Thanks for watching! Some people say you should defrost your fridge every 6 months but that seems like a lot of work. So I just do this every once in a while when it starts acting up.

Yeah that was pretty bad. But after that it worked fine for about 6 months and then I had to defrost it again. I think it can get a lot of ice built up in there and if that happens it will take a while to defrost.

You are very welcome. This has worked for me a few times. I still want to empty the fridge out and give it a full defrost. But that can be a bit of a chore. So this is a good compromise.
So….just take the ice tray out? No need to unplug or leave door open?
Yes that's right you don't have to unplug it or even leave the door open. This is a easy way to defrost the ice behind the fan motor. It can be a real chore to take everything out of your fridge and defrost it. So this is quick fix. But some people say they defrost their fridge every year or even every 6 months. So if you have the time a full defrost and a good cleaning would be a great way to go.

Mine is making that noise but I don’t have any water hooked up to it. What do you think is the problem?😢
The freezer can still form ice around the fan. Even without the water on. So it probably just needs a little defrost to clear out ice build up.

@@Yahuah-Ahavah-Shalom Yeah that is the quickest way to defrost it. Just take out the ice tray to defrost the ice maker. You don't have to leave the refrigerator door open or anything like that. Just taking out the ice maker tray should be good enough. Also make sure you don't have a lot of bulky items stacked up next to the ice maker.

Do I leave the lever down for it continue making ice?
I don't have a lever on mine. I just took out the ice tray to help the ice on the fan defrost. Once the noise stops and it starts making ice again I put the ice tray back in.

What sound is it making? I woke up tonight with mine making a knocking noise
The first sound I get is from the blades hitting ice build up in the back of the ice maker. The fan makes a airplane sound. Once it defrosts a little that sound goes away. The knocking noise kind of sounds like ice is dropping. I get that sound sometimes too. The other day I opened the bottom freezer and some ice chunks fell out. So I am thinking some ice chunks are falling down into the freezer from the fan causing a knocking or dropping sound.
Do I shut ice maker off??
I didn't shut it off. I don't have a shut off on mine. But if you can shut it off that would be better. I just took out my ice tray and let the ice maker defrost. Then I put it back in once it started making ice again.
Got a brand new unit yesterday and it’s doing this already. Annoying
If you have a warranty they can send a tech out to check the thermostat. There is a heating element in there that should turn on to keep the ice from building up. I had mine repaired when it was still under warranty. They put a new heating element in it. The tech said the thermostats and the heating element go bad all the time. After he fixed it every thing was fine until the warranty ran out. Then it started acting up again.

That's great! That noise can be a real pain. Our TV is in the family room right next to the kitchen and when the fridge starts acting up it can really wreck whatever I am watching.
@@ThatHobby it’s definitely the fan blades hitting the ice. i didn’t take the panel off to remove the ice build up this time. the defrost worked, but i think i should remove the panel next time to make sure all the ice is gone.
@@ChristopherColdness Yeah I have done this a few times to defrost it but taking the panel of to get the ice out may be a little more work but it will be worth it in the end. Defrosting can take a while.

I unplugged the fridge and left the doors opened and the next day… no ice
I need to do that too. I keep saying next time I need groceries I will take what's left in the fridge out and defrost the hole thing.

You might need to defrost it if there is a lot of ice in there.
@@ThatHobby I defrosted the ice buildup behind the ice maker. Was Good for about 10 hrs then started back again

@@Blayze1017 You could try to defrost the whole refrigerator but if that doesn't work there is a heating element behind the ice maker that could have gone bad. I had mine replaced when it was still under warranty.
