  • this is a clip of the Sunday run where we drove from Bermagui to Tathra, Merimbula, Pambula and Eden, much clippering fun had by all, and much rolling road blocking done by club members.
many apologies to south coast residents! but hey, they are the best bus to be stuck behind. at least you've got something good to look at!
thanks to Graham and Andrea for the video content while i was out driving....

These were a thing in Australia?!?😳 When I was looking up stuff about the Ghostbusters Ectomobile, I started looking up stuff about "professional cars" and I was reading things about a "flxible, buick hearse/ambulance" every now and again. A while later I was like "hang on, wasn't one pointed out when it (we called it a clipper bus) drove through my local town when we were in the car and is this buick built by the same people? I looked it up and it was! Now that I think about it, I thought that it was imported by a person who was into old cars and wasn't actually in use at the time, but I was wrong! These were a thing here back in the day! Although they wouldn't be that common... Why did they want flxible clippers in Australia anyway? Becuase the local stuff looked boring? They kinda remind me of hino bus of probably the same era...

yeah a clipper was brought out by Reg Ansett in 1950 and then the guys in melbourne's Ansair factory stripped it down and copied it to build another 130 to create the Pioneer bus fleet for interstate travel. . the reason for this was that the government had a ban at the time on importing buses and we only had slow old bedfords and other british buses at the time that were really not highway coaches.

@@ansairoddbod "slow old Bedfords"😂 Yeah we had 64 Bedford, with a trailer that tipped, on our farm (which we sold I think late last year) and yeah, it's top speed wasn't very fast😂🤭 Someone I went to school with spotted a rusty one sitting in a paddock and I showed him photos on my phone of the one we used on the farm and he was like "the old beddie". The person we sold it to is going to restore it, but leave the rust showing and show it at some car shows. Although something like this would probably be more cool than the "slowbed". Although I have seen some photos online were, unlike the flexible of the us, there seems to be some people who like making them look like a truck, rather than a bus. I guess that would be because our truck and camping culture here, is more caravan based and making your vehicle towing the caravan or your truck look "tough and masculine", as well as the caravan itself. But the flexible clipper isn't really a "tough and masculine" looking vehicle, but the culture here is probably why some look like trucks and outback truckers might of influenced it...
