A funny story I have that’s sorta connected to Stalingrad, a few years ago I dated this girl from Germany, apparently one of her grandfathers was a veteran of Stalingrad and was able to come out alive. Anyways as I was in her country meeting her family I finally met her one of grandparents. I’m nervous as all hell remembering how this guys was in the Wehrmacht and survived one of the deadliest battles in history. Meeting him though, he was very nice, kind and welcoming. Later on in the day I decided to ask him about his experience in the military, and as my gf was translating for me paused and said “Daniel he was an officer” in which I replied “Right and officer in Stalingrad?” After I said that her grandmother and father burst out laughing. Why? Because this wasn’t the same one I was thinking about, and then remembered how he died of old age....
My great grandfather fought at the battle of Stalingrad. I have been told by my dad and him told by his uncle about the food truck that came in once a week and the rotting corpses all around the city as my great grandfather had to walk over them day and night the smell and how it left him. There where stories of dogs, cats, even rats throwing themselves into the freezing Volga River to escape the hell on earth. In one particular Russian Diary, he wrote "All that remains of the city are stones and men, and even the stones are no longer permanent." Russians fought in grain silos, that where set alight, and refused to surrender, even heavy artillery would be unable to convince them to surrender or break. Workers, civilians mind you, still worked on tanks in bombed out factories, many rolling off the assembly line with only a few shells and straight into battle, workers where drafted into the infantry when they ran out of material to make tanks, bullets, shells, as the city was never evacuated. I would put Stalingrad well above no man's land in the great war.
Indy, actually my grandfather was wounded in the Stalingrad battle. He never returned to war, but he did return home (thus I'm here). But he never talked about the battle...

Dear Sabaton, make the video about song "The Last Battle". I believe that this history was really interesting, but i wanna hear this from Indy. Make it pls.
My grand-grandfather was concussioned in Stalingrad and lied in Mamayev Hill for 4 hours . The nurse brought him out of battlefield and after awhile they married and had a son - my grandfather
For anyone interested in the topic, there is a very good German movie about it, Stalingrad (1993), I found that it really captured the desperate feeling and horror of the battle well.
Fun Fact: In the song, Joakim screams, “Mratimiat!” after, “Oh, Stalingrad!” Apparently, backwards, the statement is backwards, and when translated to English (from Swedish), you get the phrase, “Hold my intestine.” Why? Probably alluding to a wounded soldier with his guts spilling out. Dark.
You should do songs about the battle of Iwo Jima! Maybe describe the perspectives of general Kuribayashi and colonel baron Nishi. Would be interesting if you could do more songs about the war in the Pacific!
Really wouldn’t have been mature enough to not giggle when my commander said it’s time for operation Uranus I wonder if a few versions had been planned and this was then H preparation

@@SabatonHistory For sure! What would you like to know? He actually received several iron crosses. Last of which he got from General von Paulus himself. When passing his house riding my bike I'd always wave hi and he would do the typical German (Nazi) Salute and say "Hello my boy!". When he turned 80 somebody asked how he stayed so healthy and someone else said it was all the work he did in his Yard. And then he jokingly said "and being a member of the Aryan nation doesn't hurt either" he wrote a biography with the help of a friend but it's not readily available. I can probably get you a copy or digitize one and get it to you

Ok, I know Indy Neidel and Hungover Pär, but who is the metal machine sitting beside Hungover Pär? Is it Freddie Mercury?
The greatest metal machine Joakim!!!🤘😎🍻 LG Alex🤘Hallelujah🤘☺
Dear Sabaton, make the video about song "The Last Battle". I believe that this history was really interesting, but i wanna hear this from Indy. Make it pls.
We'll get there!
This is one of your sadddest songs
It makes you realize how small we actually are and that war is worse than hell
Masterpiece of a song
Even with the release of The Great War, this song is my #1 favourite Sabaton song. No other song gets the dark theme of this.
AWWWW the joy of holding a cat
I've been listening to nothing but SABATON for months on spotify, I didn't even know this song existed.
My grand-grandfather was concussioned in Stalingrad and lied in Mamayev Hill for 4 hours . The nurse brought him out of battlefield and after awhile they married and had a son - my grandfather
What an impressive piece of family history that was. Thanks a lot for sharing it with us 🤘
Hangover par should be a Tshirt, like how thor was at the briefing room with the avengers in endgame
Great show
For anyone interested in the topic, there is a very good German movie about it, Stalingrad (1993), I found that it really captured the desperate feeling and horror of the battle well.
It's brrrrroken!
Greetings from Russia!)
9:17 the german soldier with a soviet machine gun… probably ran out of ammo for his own gun
Oh yeah, been waiting a while for this one
I love the emphasis put on OPERATION URANUS
Prepare Operation Uranus!
Joakim's shades, the gateway to the backstage...
Fun Fact: In the song, Joakim screams, “Mratimiat!” after, “Oh, Stalingrad!” Apparently, backwards, the statement is backwards, and when translated to English (from Swedish), you get the phrase, “Hold my intestine.”
Why? Probably alluding to a wounded soldier with his guts spilling out. Dark.
Running Wild shirt on Pat, nice one :D
You should do songs about the battle of Iwo Jima! Maybe describe the perspectives of general Kuribayashi and colonel baron Nishi. Would be interesting if you could do more songs about the war in the Pacific!

Любимая песня!

First to this again. And you guys picked a nice timing. And you learn something new from your band every day.
Very interesting. I'd like to see an episode on Raoul Wallenberg please.
Really wouldn’t have been mature enough to not giggle when my commander said it’s time for operation Uranus I wonder if a few versions had been planned and this was then H preparation
I saw the movie Stalingrad when I din my as a basic training as a conscript. In the northern parts of Sweden. our Lt saw the video casset the morning after and told us, good now you know how a war winter can be. I kind of regretted looking at that movie.
# my greatest respekt for all these great soldiers!!! Dankeschön für das Lied von euch ihr lieben Jungs von Sabaton and Indy for tell this dark cold ,, Kesselschlacht “ terrible war battle.
And hey Pär thx for the nice story with Dr Alban and Joakim for ,,.Hallelujah “.Mabye a song together? I would enjoy!!!
LG Alex!👌😎🤘
Stalingrad has pure power behind it. Both the battle and the song.
Respect from Russia. A very informative video. Sabaton did a great job of studying the topic of the battle of Stalingrad
We need more story time with Pär
Sabaton: Enters a concert
Nation: They're gonna burn our flag!!!!!
Ohh maan... I love Sabaton History
:)
I have a friend who survived the battle of Stalingrad (German side) and then survived in a POW camp in northern Russia then went back to Dresden and then emigrated to the US. He has a crazy story and keeps his iron cross on a table in his room at the nursing home.
What a story, I would love to hear more!
I can probably get you a copy or digitize one and get it to you
U Learn more from a sabaton song than school these days
We're complementary lessons
And Reznov said nobody would read the kid's diary.
"And the snow fell"
And covered our dreams and ideals
And the snow fell and defeated the beasts only rival....
