The genius of Marty is when he plays a song, you want to learn it... regardless of if you wanted to learn it when listening to the original! It's the joy factor that Marty brings to learning the guitar...
Marty my man I am self taught and largely down to you tuition. you are an inspiration and a fun teacher, I tried to crack the "Wanted dead or Alive for 6 months and as soon as i watched you i cracked it. truly a talented man thankyou sir
Congratulations on your Signature Epiphone 335! Been playng and singing this song for years, but seeing it broken down is great. You're an amazing teacher. You are very pleasant to listen to. I'm so old I used to tune with a fork. Where were you when I would wear my LPs to scratchy Frisbees. Love the hats!
This song caused me and my 70s guitar teacher to part ways. He taught it with full barre chords. The rhythm is fiendishly difficult. You've encouraged me to give it another go. Townsend is determined to play as many chords as possible with an F# in the bass.
Thanks !!! I've been playing guitar again for two years after a 30-year break. i've been following you for some time and i like your lessons Oh, I almost forgot, I'm following you from France. Be well. 👋
Thanks, marty, great song had a few go's at this one think I have been playing the Bsus cord wrong as I was taught to fret the high E will try your way looks easier cheers
Main thing on the strum: 1234 and 1234 and 12 etc. with the ands an UPSTROKE, just like the 4s before it. It won't sound right w/out this pattern of two upstrokes following each other
Marty Thankyou for giving us these incredible songs....nobody plays this stuff anymore...and it's one of the best numbers ever recorded IMHO. The WHO was and remains an incredible group of musicians.... The rubbish produced these days in the disguise of music WILL NEVER compete with the WHO, the BEATLES, STONES, CREEDENCE and most of the 60s to 90s productions. My opinion of course.... but as a musician myself there must be hundreds of millions of like minded souls out there who would agree. Keep it going Marty....please 🙏🙏👍👍
Can we consider Marty music a guitar god? Yes when I say guitar god you may think of Jimmy page or Jimi Hendrix and people like these revolutionized guitar playing. Marty may not have revolutionized guitar playing but he revolutionized how to learn guitar which I would argue could have as big of an impact on the community
Thank you for answering one of my song requests Marty. Could you please do a guitar video lesson + tutorial on “Wish You Were Here” by Incubus? Thanks brother, keep up the excellent content and work as always man!
Hiya Marty, great video as usual .. I wonder if you can break down just what happened at around 10:14 when it looks like you slid from the second fret up to the twelfth then back again on yr A string which really set the piece off .. I'll try it anyways good luck :)
That rhythm on the descending suspended chords has messed with my brain for 40 years. No matter how familiar I am with it there is something preventing me from accenting it correctly. The chords are easy and the rhythm I guess are just 16th triplets but it's the beat emphasis that trips me up over and over and over all these years.
Hi! Im amazed with your skill and wanted to ask a question. I am left handed and play right handed guitar flipped. I've learned guitar by watching youtube tutorials like yours and have been playing this way for 5 years now. Went to some courses but the teachers said they wont be able to teach me this way and that theory is based on regular playing style (not flipped). Now I have the opportunity to buy an electric guitar and dont know if i should buy a left handed guitar and re-learn it so that it would be easier to find a proper teacher and learn theory. But it would mean I will struggle with muscle memory and start all over again. Any suggestions on what should I do?
The world is a simulation. I’ve never heard of this song in my life and my roommate mentioned it earlier after I was messing about on the guitar because I apparently played something similar. Go on youtube and guess who has uploaded a tutorial for it 👀
they are not the same actually. The Eminor has that open G string while the E5 does not. If you have to play a full chord play the E Major chord there.

Only You as far as ,,You know.
What a fun and exhilarating song, as with all of The Who's songs. Townsend just knew how to write music, and especially for guitar!
Well yeah, he played guitar
The genius of Marty is when he plays a song, you want to learn it... regardless of if you wanted to learn it when listening to the original! It's the joy factor that Marty brings to learning the guitar...
The opening is one of the greatest in rock music. On “Going Mobile” he also uses that B minor chord but does a different progression.

Wish I could play. I have a splint for the next 2 weeks.😢
that last chord of the intro ends with a quick F#sus before he moves up to the main riff in B
This song makes me feel like a rhythm guitar god

Great song, always loved it. But how can I practice the "tricky" stretchy 5th chord? Still after years it's not easy to me.
Thanks Marty
For the "tricky stretch" I barred the B and G strings with my first finger
Can you do a totorial on peace of mind by boston
Please do 45 by shine down and Gasoline by SEETHER

The world is a simulation. I’ve never heard of this song in my life and my roommate mentioned it earlier after I was messing about on the guitar because I apparently played something similar. Go on youtube and guess who has uploaded a tutorial for it 👀
I always experience weird coincidences like this, glad I’m not the only one
Hi Marty. What model Gibson do you play?
Hey Marty, can you do a Zakk Wylde, what beyond empty tutorial? I can’t find anything
Thanks brother
The 12/8 strumming pattern is so tricky to keep going and to getting back to it after the chorus. I've been trying to get this right since 2010
Odd request but can you do the Taven theme in the game Dark and Darker. Sounds like a simple song but there's no tutorial on it anywhere on YT.
Looking for a tutorial for the wizard from uriah heep.
I don't get it. How do you not hit the high e string when strumming the rhythm part?
Do a tutorial on green days 2000 light years away
It's been a while since I played guitar, and my fingers hurt already. I think I'll keep going for a bit, then take a break.
Marty, I am begging you to do flaws and sins by juice wrld

MARTY
Would you ever do How to Disappear Completely by Radiohead?
HIGHLY recommend listening to elton johns version
5:36 8:35
I cant get my thumb over the top string
Not only do you have a Gibson without a case, but you’ve actually got an even sun tan look on your face!
reminds me a lot of Tenacious D.
Great - but how do you think he does it?…. 😂
Excellent stuff. Thought I knew the chord shapes but no!!!!
Can someone break down the strumming pattern a bit more
Is that George Galloway?

How to play a guitar easy
First
Instead of the difficult E5, why not play an Em? They are the same...
they are not the same actually. The Eminor has that open G string while the E5 does not. If you have to play a full chord play the E Major chord there.
Hey Marty would you do a lesson on your favorite Jimmy Buffet song for all us Parrotheads Please!
