It's common for girls in that age area to have crushes on older boys - but it is highly uncommon for the boys to return their feelings. Tom looked at her - as most boys would - like a younger sister. That is what he said. The thing with boys that age is they are more interested in girls who've got tits - not 10 year old girls who don't. The Girls 12 year old boys get crushes on are like 14 or 16. Now - by the time Tom was 17 and Emma was 15 - the difference in their ages didn't matter as much to keep something from happening - but - Tom had come to think of her - and still did - as a Little Sister - so nothing came of it. .
