Wow!! Such great directions...so clear and easy to follow. Unfortunately it didn't work on my printer so sadly I guess it's time for a replacement printer. Won't even print the print nozzle check sheet, just beeps and gives me a 0x97 error. No paper jams anywhere as that was the first thing I checked. So my next question, what do we do with the old printer?

We currently have an Epson 4630 wf it has serviced us very well. Recently it’s been acting up with the 0x97 code. How would you go about to fix it as it is a different setup from the printer above. Or what printer would best replace it any name brand is ok as long as it works and has good printing quality. We print booklets with a coloured cover on a heavier paper. Thanks

Not click bait. It is a legit error code.
For the print head cleaning, and nozzle check, do the inks need to be removed or attached.
Actually, the print head can be replaced in about 25 minutes it's not as difficult as you might think, it's just not as simple as the HP inkjets that simply release the print head with a single lever... these Epson's, you'll need a jewelers screwdriver and a head lamp (across your forehead) so you can remove the little screws and be able to see what you are doing! Note the orientation of the connecting cables (there are 3 ribbon cables connected to the print head, and you must re-attach them to the correct ports and in the correct direction or else). Just saying. There are a few good videos on the procedure on TH-cam. Regards.

Hi. I am going to try your method of cleaning my WF 3620 printer nozzles because I do eek out the most ink possible before relplacing the cartridges. I've had this printer for five years with no issues, however. About two years ago I purchased remanufactured ink cartridges for this Epson model and until now, have had no issues. DO you think the ink itself is causing the problem or just, more likely, that the nozzles need cleaning?

Ah Epson inkjets and error codes. They seem as if these are possibly a standard feature Epson has engineered to eventually, sometimes quite early on, to appear. If I was paranoid I might think this is by design! I was asked by a major retailer to review 2 WorkForce printers they were adding to the line of printers to which I said bring them on. I was, as is often the case, dazzled by the print quality out of the box and used both a lot. Then came the realization that these rip through ink with an appetite if you are even using them moderately and certainly if you are a heavy user...especially the ones with the 252 small format cartridges. Like many folks who like to exercise their freedom of choice I opted for some high quality generic cartridges which were notes inside kind of foreboding these cartridges are ID chipped and these have been tested to currently work. They did work and I was delighted to be getting the same good prints at bargain pricing when compared to the pricey Epson ink cartridges. Then Epson struck back with the next firmware update. These cartridges were not identified and wouldn't, of course, print and not even would it do anything not requiring ink such as faxing and scanning. Brilliant!!! Epson has snuck a bomb by me and blew up my printer. So, I begrudgingly returned to Epson Genuine Ink Cartridges as you can't keep beating these fiends. Then as if to say you need to get back into the market for a new printer my Epson failed throwing an error code for no rhyme or reason. I guess after two years the printer felt like Epson needed to make some more bank other than the ridiculously overpriced ink? Oh, I tried everything I could think of to coax the printer back into action and nothing seemed to work. I haven't tried your method here and I tell you why - the day before it threw an error code it was printing beautifully in color. It seemed to coincide with a new Wi-Fi 6 Lynksys router I installed but that makes no sense since I had not even entered the new router's ID & password to the Epson. Maybe it had print jobs, or partial ones, in the queue from the old router's address or something? Anyway nothing I did would coax the printer to get out of the error code so I could enter the new Wi-Fi address/password. It is stuck on the error screen and will not allow me to go to anything in settings or get out of the error screen. Can I say this completes my total disdain for the Epson corporate culture as it relates to the abuse of their customers. This printer still looks absolutely brand new and all I can think of is doing my own Office Space final fix on this sorry excuse for a small business/home office all-in-one printer. If rating this printer I'm going to give it below zero and that is because it is cruel to give and then take away. It gave me great print quality then took away my replacement ink options. OK...then, as if to turn the knife it did this virtually making it a boat anchor. Don't buy Epson printers is my take away. They will be, as Job's quoted regarding Blu-Ray: "A BAG OF HURT"!

I did something similar using warm water instead of cleaning fluid to flush the nozzles and now the printer won't print anything on a test page. Any ideas? Before it was printing red and yellow fine, but was doing blue incompletely and no black at all.
I have this little pizza wheel pricks in my photos. Do you have any ideal on How to stop those. It is coming from the front rollers in the epson fwd 3640. Those will where are white on my printer and they have little teeth on them. I can print on the plain she off copy paper but when I use mine photo paper it leaves the little marks. Hello Brandon, My 4 year old WF-3640 has a cartridge issue that came about on the 4th black ink replacement. The error says it can't recognize the brand new 252XL. I removed the sensor block part and cleaned it with alcohol and cleaned the circuit board that is behind the part. Restarted the install and the same error came up. I tried two used 252XL cartridges and the same error persisted. I cycled the power and cleaned the circuit board on the cartridge without success. Any thoughts on a fix or workaround? This is such a nice printer I hope it can be repaired but I don't see much home printer repair services nearby. Thanks!
Is there any way to get it to bypass this error code? I am not having any printing issues and none of my ink is low. I'm getting this error code right in the middle of a project that's due Monday!! I only have 4 pages left to copy, it's ridiculous.

If you turn off the printer, the print head stores itself and can't be moved without damaging the printer. And while error 0x97 is apparently a grab bag code that can mean almost anything, your solution did solve my problem once I figured out how to work around your omissions.
I'm having the same problem. what was your work around getting the print head to move. Your comment was 2 years ago, so I'm not hopeful in getting a solution

Do you know a solution to error code 031006 on epson wf-7710. Pretty much I tried converting my printer to sublimation ink kit. And i believe as I was running tests and cleaning heads that the ink pad filled and overflowed.
I tried a mediocre cleaning process similar to this, (I say mediocre cause I used a straw and a syringe)... Anyways my printer is a workforce 3640 and it can print anything is color amazingly but the black ink makes docs in word (texts) have different blacks (the opacity isnt the same). In addition to the blurryness, it has some white horizontal lines that is missing parts of the document. What do I do? I tried a similar cleaning method, did the maintenance cleaning method of cleaning the heads, aligned the ink thing, removed fast print option, checked margins of the paper... nothing.... Again, what should I do?
Yeah, I hate that about the Workforces. I think they try to save ink for Black & White docs. Did you find any solution? Maybe try to print in PHOTO COLOR even if its a B&W doc. The printer might take more care.
Do you think a syringe with a skinny metal needle/tip/whatever you call it would work or does it have to completely surround the nozzle?
Grey Mazich This method will only be effective if the entire syringe tip is completely over the nozzle and yes surrounding it. We have not had success doing it any other way.

hi, Brandon.. watched this video, ordered the cleaning kit, bought new ink cartridges and just finished cleaning the printheads... now I get a warning, CANNOT RECOGNIZE THE FOLLOWING CARTRIDGES. TRY INSTALLING THEM AGAIN. then is lists my four in cartridges. I have reinstalled these cartridges 3x now. Any advice?

Yes I have seen this happen. You may just need to get a new set of ink cartridges.
Hey Brandon, I bought the cleaning kit and tried it on a WF-7620 but it did not resolve the 0x97 issue. I will admit cleaning the head did result in removing the error for a period,and allowed for print head nozzle check to be printed. Since there were colors missing, I went ahead and also tried using ammonia based Windex to break up any gunk that may have built up in the head so I can get more improvement of the head. Now the next day after waiting I am getting the error again after turning on the printer. Is this error associated with a head that is misfiring or clogged up? Could it be that I have to do more cleanings ? Thanks

Thanks for the video. Seems straight forward but after cleaning my printer's print heads nothing is printing. The cartridges are full but nothing prints (no colors - nothing at all prints). Any suggestions?

first off thank u for taking the time to present this video. There is something I don't understand.. You said after pulling the ink cartridges out and then moving the printer head to the middle, you mentioned turning off the printer. Once I do that part and turn off the printer. the printer head returns back to its default position..so I cant cont to follow the rest of the video tutorial to clean the heads?

Hello. So I see when you put the solution through, it totally soaked the towel underneath and went through to the black sponge under it. Does this affect anything?? Also, I didn't see you dry off anything. The solution ponded right there by the color tips, you didn't dry it off. Is that ok? Just want to make sure I do mine correctly and just as you did there. Hi, yes preferably you dry everything before proceeding with replacing the cartridges. However if the solution has dried since doing the cleaning, there is no problem. In this video I believe I dried everything off afterwards. Thank you for the question! Hope this helps!

@@michellechesser3147 It takes 4 or 5 Print Head Cleanings (via the printer's control panel) to flush the cleaning solution out of the print head and get it filled with ink again before it will start showing any printout on the pages.... then 3 or 4 more cleanings (via the printer's control panel) to get the best nozzle check pattern. Allow some number of hours between each print head cleaning, don't do 1 right after another right after another.
Your mileage may vary somewhat, but the video doesn't mention that the print head is full of clear cleaner fluid and not actual ink after flushing it this way. Make certain you put fresh full ink cartridges in it after flushing the print head too, you'll need the ink to get it full and primed again!

You can disassemble printhead in epson wf3640 and replace parts. There are vids on how to do it.

Hi, thank you for the comment. In my experience if after running the cleaning there is a code other than 0x97 on this printer, the only other solution would be for a technician to take a look at it.

hey guys, I have just fixed mine, but not by following this video . What I did was printer head clean cycle first, (you still get error after this) then turn off and turn on again but print nothing. Then you have printer on and connected to your router. Go to epson.com/support and find your model. Download the FIRMWARE, and open it. You will then need to select the printer from the list, and the programme sends the update to the printer. You may then need to do one more turn off and turn on again and hey presto.

I have an Epson WF 3640 and its an AWESOME PRINTER. But when l use the scanner to upload it leaves a black line straight down the middle. All the videos say l can take that thin glass out on the left hand side and clean, but on these printers there is no catch, lever or any option to open it. Do you have any suggestions?

Try warming up the solution.

I tried to follow your instructions but unable to repeat. The very first step where you were removing the ink cartridges and pushing the print head aside, how did you do that? Because the only way I was able to remove the cartridges is when I selected the option to replace ink cartridges. If I do that and pushed the printhead aside and switched off the printer, the head went back and I am unable to move it aside again. I need your help urgently. Please respond back.

Yes you will use the same cleaning kit in the video except you may want to dilute the soliution with 50% water. Then what you will do is run a printhead cleaning which will push all the edible ink back into the system, flushing the remaining solution.

Just got thia same exact printer from my neighbor. She said i seen an error message and bought a new one. Im getting this message. The print head nozzles may be clogged. Running the nozzle check before printing is recommended.
The problem is you can't run a nozzle check until you replace the ink... Its just so dumb,.....

You can go into setting and press replace ink cartridges. Then shut it off and do the cleaning. Hope this helps.

How how many times do you need to clean it
Until the color comes back. So it's a trial and error type of system you'll have to do. You have to do the cleaning several times go through the process of seeing if it prints regularly and if not, you have to go back to the cleaning. This process takes patience, but it does work.

That is a common error, it may be that the printhead needs a cleaning.
@Printer Guy. There are no No error codes. Cleaning steps of printer have been gone through 5x already.
How do I clean that over saturated sponge on the carriage the head rolls over?
It's so saturated that there's a thick multi colored streak along both sides of paper when printing.

There are sponge replacement kits either on eBay or Amazon. That is your best bet.

Now a days if you don’t use your printer frequently, it’s best to just save your document on a USB key and print your stuff at a place like Staples. Otherwise you’re just wasting your money on printers. I’ve gone through toner that I didn’t even use. 🤷♀️
what is the issue is NO ink comes out black, magenta, blue or yellow !! means broken head or clogged all 4 ?
Yes whatever colors dont print are most likely clogged. The cleaning kit will undo the clog and allow the ink to run freely again.
I get no color, all 4 colors out, just plain paper comes out, hope print head is not broken as never has ink been low !!

My printer stopped printing B&W and color all at once. I thought it was a software issue. Looked at several "fix" programs on TH-cam and got depressed. Then I went to the printer's MAINTENANCE window and pressed PRINT HEAD CLEANING and MY PROBLEM WAS SOLVED in two minutes! By the way, I have an EPSON WF-4720.

NEW THEORY!! I just kept clicking "Maintenance" and "print head cleaning" a few times and it is working
When you try that twenty plus times in a row with no success you might reevaluate that theory of yours.

You will be performing a resurrection. This method will work. Thats why they call me the printer doctor.
Perhaps it was too wasteful if not downright more expensive...but, I remember the first inkjet printers had the printheads in the ink cartridges. Yep, each time you got a fresh ink cartridge you also got a fresh new printhead. I actually think this kind of design might last indefinitely and aside from being more expensive per ink cartridge, it goes agains the current US/World corporate thinking in that it is accepted practice to not build anything too well because manufacturers want the consumer back in the market to buy. That mentality stinks. Epson, being part of Seiko who builds long-lasting watches and industrial sewing machines, should get back to building these things to last as they do most of their watches and industrial machinery.
