    Definitely something to show those people who insist that the Amstrad can't do smooth scrolling. Lower visual resolution aside, it's not that far behind the Amiga original, and certainly better than the WIP C64 version I've seen.

    Stunning conversion of the classic. I would love to see them try a port to the Speccy next.

    Makes me wonder if a C64 could do it. It wouldn't look as good with such a smaller color set, but I'm wondering if it could do it at all.

      Yeah, I looked it up after I posted that. There are apparently 2 different ones out there. One from 2006 and one from fairly recently. The one that is recent is giving up too much of the screen to the dot matrix display at the top, IMHO. Otherwise, they look fantastic!

      @@tarstarkusz The C64 version runs at 50 FPS - both the scroll area and sprite. This is double the frame rate of the CPC version. I read an article online about development resuming on the C64 version this year. The preview takes up around half of the C64's memory, so it could be possible to complete each table in just 64K.
      This is potentially embarrassing for the CPC - the C64 running a faster, smoother version of PD with significantly better audio in half the memory of the CPC version!
      In addition, if you look closely at the sprite on the CPC version, it's constantly wobbling. This is not accurate ball physics. If you look at the C64 preview - the ball movement is smooth and more realistic.

    • @tarstarkusz
      @tarstarkusz 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Mark... Yesterday there was a split screen of the Amiga and CPC version side by side and whatever compromises had to be made, I think the CPC version looks excellent, way better than the 64 version. But I wouldn't be at all surprised if the 64 version sounds better. The SID is just a much better sound chip is found in any other 8 bit computer.

      @@tarstarkusz I have seen that video and it shows how well made it is, but youtube doesn't even make justice to the real thing. Whoever played on CPC and Amiga on real hardware knows it plays perfect, 50 fps and smooth gameplay, as close as possible to the original for an underrated 8 bit platform.

    To be honest (and I now that it will make a lot of people angry against me), I think that it's a little bit overhyped. Hey, this is just a flipper. The best on CPC ? Of course, the others were coded in a hurry for publishers between 1986 and 1990 with far less knowledge of the CPC tricks! Logos and splashscreen, menu and highscore screens, and 4 bitmap tables. Not a lot of things to convert from the original game, don't you think? Lot of musics, but there aren't impressive. Always the same ugly hard noises and "Dave-Rogerish" instruments. At the beginning, some years ago, it was sweet. But now, is CPC demomakers unable to compose using other kind of instruments? Someone in the comments saw like me that ball has sometimes weird reactions (surely due to mathematic CPC limitations). Smooth scrolling? A lot of coders will tell you that vertical scrolling is not so difficult on CPC. If only it was in 24k on a 160 pixel wide to respect the Amiga aspect ratio... But no, it's just the traditional 128 pixel wide 😉
    Orion Prime and Imperial Mah-Jong were created by only 2 guys and CNG created Bubble Bobble 4 CPC alone. This is far more impressive imo than this Pinball Dreams that involved 7 artists and 11 playtesters to emerge.
    During 3 years, BG gave demos before silence then launched teasers with clouds in which we could see nothing, like if god himself was preparing his arrival on Earth. But personally, I didn't forget this was just for a flipper game.
    So yes, it's nice to play Pinball Dreams on CPC and this version is pretty cool. But no it's not a revolution, just one of the games we all wanted to play on CPC. And just for that, thank you Batman Group! 😘
    And now I open my arms to receive your stones throw!

      It's true, it's just a flipper, but graphics, colors, scrolling and animations are just...perfect, impossible thing on c64, spectrum or 800xl, however I'm an atari 8bit fanatic and I hate amstrad... 😉
      Cherry on the cake^^, it looks perfectly playable... 😎

      Yeah just a flipper game "easy to make", such feasible and common techniques already done before a thousand times in CPC! there is no challenge on making a game like this as close to the original, nothing special about it.
      I wonder why no one ever bother before. How can someone even compare a flipper game when you have achieved a mahjong game?! (irony on)
      I appreciate every game made for CPC and Orion Prime, Imperial-Mahjong and BB4CPC are also great in their own way... I don't like Mahjong games (done a million times before) but it doesn't mean is "just a mahjong game" cos i understand the effort to achieve what it was done. Undermining the amount of effort and time to do a job like PD and get this result is just not cool (irony off)

    • @iXien
      @iXien 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@trocoloco And... You just understood nothing to what I said. I don't said it was not a cool game, but I pointed that everyone seems to think it is revolutionary because it's smooth. No it isn't revolutionary. It's smooth because cpc can easily do a smooth vertical scrolling. Then it's a nice game that of course needed a lot of work from Rhino to assemble it. But what is clear too is that I consider that graphics and musics are nice but not astonishing as the ones of other productions created by less people (and that's is partialy subjective, of course).
      Indie games are really more common since the last years so I think we can stop we now can stop marveling constantly and have a little critical sense. Rhino is developing another game and I will follow carefully his work as he's a very good coder.
