Things like these that promote community on people during their busy day in the life of modern times is a breath of fresh air to me. A little bit of community goes a long way and people's lives.😎💯👍🏾

They are coolest and one of the things I love about Germany. Somebody always has something you can find when you need. Many good memories and convos.

I believe that's what the younger generation are missing... genuine, face to face conversation ❤

i love my local convenience store! its right beside the laundromat and there are some benches and a little playground just outside. its always full of people of all types. locals, pensioners, drunks, kids! its so nice and the store owner takes care of us all. The nearest bike shop even set up a little repair station.
Even the mayor who lives nearby comes by from time to time on foot and have a drink and a chitchat.

Convenience stores are popular businesses in the US for immigrants also. I love it and love to talk to them about where they came from and their culture and how they like living in the US. Usually the entire family is involved in the business and I love seeing how the kids are growing up. I can’t even imagine a village without a pub! That’s one of the oldest traditions in the world. Often the pub was the only business in a small village. When I think of Germany, I think of pubs, beer halls or whatever the traditional name is in German. The way Germans love their beer I would think every little village would have a microbrewery.

It's because the immigrants who own/operate these shops bring something to Germans they DON'T have ........... A goddam SENSE OF HUMOUR!!!

Wonderful. In USA, this store would be robbed all the time and the layout would need cages and plexiglass. The world needs this kind of civic space…share and challenge ideas with face to face dialogue instead of sitting on computer and getting radicalized in virtual echo chamber.

Institutions are necessarily historical; that does not make them "socially constructed" with the implied relativism. If humans are free, i.e. not under excessive pressure of tyrannical government, they will form communities and social hubs naturally. Conversely, government whether the GDR or any other, would love to take credit and have people entrust them with these institutions, which would be a fatal mistake.

Well, sounds nice an positive.... In reality these kiosks are mainly shops for alcohol, cigarettes and vapes and sometimes the lottery. They are mainly visited by addicts of one of the former items, late night partygoers or people from the lower end of society. In addition 'normal' items are expensive at these shops.
