I’m not just saying this. Your channel is my favorite. I am so impressed with your house design and the quality of your building skills. You would think you are a professional. The way you are raising your family impresses me so much. God has blessed you so much.
I think being an electrician in a former life made it somewhat easier to envision this build for him. I would assume he has seen a lot of bare framing!
One of your best videos yet. Natalie has become a full-on carpenter.. You guys are so fun to watch and I really appreciate Jacob's explanations and his approach to each task. Stay Safe
What some will do... when they run into that anchor bolt problem... is run another stud directly next to the anchor bolt... and then sister it - so you'd end up with a stud that doesn't quite go all the way to the bottom since the anchor bolt is in the way... BUT... you maintain layout for your sheet goods. I'm sure you'll be able to make what you did work... but just in case you run into it again. Obviously - if the planning is down to every detail, the anchor bolt wouldn't have been there to begin with... so maybe you didn't have a layout plan for your sheet goods either and you'll be able to adapt more easily. Great to see your progress... thanks for sharing this epic journey with us.
I always look for your post as soon as I get home from church. Thank you for sharing your journey and family with us. Great example of family love. very refreshing.
It only takes 2 seconds to share this video. This family deserves more subscribers. Oh, by the way, kudos to mom and dad you guys are rocking it on the build.
It is Thanksgiving weekend, so I am thinking about days gone by. My dear old dad, was a would-be carpenter like his father before him. Unfortunately, my dad did not have the opportunity to work in that field. He married during the Depression, had 6 children to support and a constant need to just earn a living. As Jacob and the entire family worked on the framing, I was thinking about how much my dad would have enjoyed this project. He would have been in there, swinging his old hammer. ah, then I thought. I bet he was there in spirit when he heard the hammering of the wood timbers. All the guys in Heaven were on notice that Jacob was assembling 2x4's into walls and window frames. The old guys were cheering the family crew to safely raise those walls for the kitchen and toward the dining area. Inspiration comes from many places, including those old carpentry souls in Heaven. Sending my best to all of you!
As you’re framing, I had an idea to leave room for conduit to go from attic space to where you have your grounding rod and/or where you’ll have breaker box. Just in case you want to put solar on the roof of your house at some point in the future.
Jacob, I deleted my last message because I realized how ignorant that would be in respect to your framing inspection. I just now finished watching this episode and here it is just short of 23:00 (11 pm) while in Arizona it is just short of 14:00 (2 pm).
Quite the first time build! Love the ideas for the "3rd" story. I had problems with my anchor bolts, even though I put EXACT measurements on the print given to the concrete guys. 2 were 4" off ending under studs and another was 1' off from the end of the garage door opening. Drilled one nearer the end wall and just straddled the other 2 with additional studs. Thanks for sharing
love the different parts of the construction and explanation on processes...extra support is ALWAYS good..great plans on moving forward and next steps, Nat is a great part of ALL of this plus editing...thanks Nat!..great idea on the lift for the wall..looked like it lined up pretty well..love the indoor basketball court..lol..your an animal framer Jacob....what a massive wall..great to see the family, thanks for sharing
Tip. My son bought a house and he is rebuilding/renovating . This house was build in 1970 , and he putting in motion sensors in all the hallways, toilets, garage, staircases and in the playarea for the kids.
Those were the best chocolate chip M&M cookies I’ve ever seen😂. Love the ingenuity your kids are becoming MacGyver’s too.😂 you making great progress soon you’ll be at the roof then dry in, keep progressing. Blessings to you and your wonderful family.🥰
Adapt and overcome you have it down as no project is without issues. Also yes the strapping is critical especially at the top rafters to secure one side to the other at the ridge beam. 2 straps at the ends then every other rafter will greatly increase your wind load strength.
Another AWESOME aerial intro.. So many neat things in this episode to compliment on. Such great carpentry and editing skillz happening. That one scene where he says "Are ya ready" with a BIG grin... and she does her magic was just soooooooo fulfilling. Add a little reverse into a scene like that sometime.. lol.. kinda like the trampoline effect. HIGH FIVE to Ethan for his suggestion. That was perfect. A genious moment for sure. Well done to all involved.
I think the kudos should go to Eli. He was right! Ya’ll were lucky. How much did that walk section weigh. What is the load rating on the man lift. How much does the man lift and Dad weigh. Where is the center of gravity on the lift. How long is the cantilever. What is the sum of the moments? Fortunately the Good Lord looked after you per Gomer Pyle. Nonetheless, congratulations on your progress. Please be safe!
When you move the stud over 1 1/2" then cut a stud 3" shorter and nail it to the stud you moved over holding it up above the bolt 3". Then you still have a stud to nail your OSB to.
Well Jacob, I can see it would be next to difficult to incorporate a window in that wall with the structure needed for the 21" beam. Are you having fun? I know I would. This is some fantastic framing. All I had to do was wait and there you are explaining to your son how you will install windows in that exterior wall. I am watching this episode here now it is almost 10:30 pm here while in Arizona it is almost 1:30 pm.
Hey good morning how you guys doing today looks like you're almost there getting closer and closer is day goes by hope you guys had a Happy Thanksgiving God bless you guys
While I understand your annoyance at the anchor bolts, and either decision is perfectly fine. Wedge anchors have never failed me in any given situation and I have built in high tornado zones often enough to swear by them. Hopefully it is not something you will have to deal with too much, but regardless both solutions are viable.
Kudo's to your son for using the lift idea, just an observation but you said that big 4' x 4' window was in the kitchen.....if there will be countertop in front of that window just be sure to have the window sill high enough.
Where the lag bolts were in the way of the studs you could have just laid down another bottom plate on top of the PT one and adjusted stud height accordingly.
Fantastic work… this is definitely the strongest framing I’ve seen in a very long time..great channel, great family and work ethic you are just an inspiration to us all …. I’m just wondering how you are going to get that 21 inch main beam up can you explain please ….❤❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Hi guys as a family including the kids are doing a great job,I don’t know if your budget would allow a Telehandler to do the heavy work as your build grows for safety reasons, good luck 🤞

This is the strongest wood framing I’ve ever seen on TH-cam

That's going to be the most strongest and beautiful house ❤
Thanks for taking us along

Or you could have notched out the stud to fit over the bolts.
@@BigJim-zh9gr - Yeah... but I wouldn't recommend that on the tall wall there... you could notch AND sister... is what I was trying to say.
I always look for your post as soon as I get home from church. Thank you for sharing your journey and family with us. Great example of family love. very refreshing.
Really like your less talk and lots of showing the actual building action. Golly...y'all make a GREAT team.
I so like watching the build, I pray Jesus keeps you all safe , healthy and happy
Once again you guys are making it happen when you drop a video your my go to to watch
❤ wow that's a brilliant looking house now . Big walls makes it look like a mansion . Fantastic ❤
It looks like you're overbuilding everything, which will be a tremendous asset to the strength and longevity of your home. Stay safe and well.
You guys deserve 1mill sub❤

Love your channel, it has the best videos. A great family all working together.
I have never seen in any other videos other than yours such perfection at building!
The team working on the mansion on the hill.
amazing family teamwork/build

Love this week’s progress! Stay safe!
Great example of working smarter, not harder. Maybe you can use the lift to put the ridge beam in. Keep up the good work.
Unfortunately, that's way past the scissor lifts weight limit. Thanks 🙂
I liked the strap idea
As you’re framing, I had an idea to leave room for conduit to go from attic space to where you have your grounding rod and/or where you’ll have breaker box. Just in case you want to put solar on the roof of your house at some point in the future.
Really like how you capture and share your life doing this. Curious to see you carryin' on weekly.✌️👍
Ingenious solutions you guys come up with😊

Guys, you all are going to appreciate doing this framing in cooler temps when the summer 100"s roll in.
Tip. My son bought a house and he is rebuilding/renovating . This house was build in 1970 , and he putting in motion sensors in all the hallways, toilets, garage, staircases and in the playarea for the kids.
Your inside window for the kids is the like a window in the Beehive House in SLC.

I'm not saying much lately but always checking in every Sunday from Calgary Canada, your house looks great stay warm -24 Celsius here today

Love the “catty” supervisors!

You are doing a Awesome job. 🙂👍
Great video as always 😊
Doing a good job
If you change your plans you need to let the town know. I was watching simple living with Britai and made change to house and was smacked with fine.
Looking good great work
Well done!
Looks like engineering school for your son to come up with the lift idea. Great job!
Looking good. Nice video.
You are have plenty help well done
Looking great 👍 big play area for your cats that’s for sure …well done kids
Move the stud and then nail another stud to the anchor free stud to give you 16 inches on center.
Your house could survive a trip to heaven

Are you framing the front wall in two sections for safety? You guys are doing amazing work love seeing the kids out there helping.
The front wall is going to be interesting. We'll probably do it in three sections. Thanks 🙂

Yup, we made sure. Thanks 🙂

We're still looking at the options for that.
😍😍😍
Instead of cutting off the anchor bolts, just double up on the bottom plate in that area, your stud layout can remain the same.
Hi guys as a family including the kids are doing a great job,I don’t know if your budget would allow a Telehandler to do the heavy work as your build grows for safety reasons, good luck 🤞
looking good and still want to buy you some construction lighting for nighttime let me know please
We'll be fine. It's starting to get too cold to work into the dark. Thanks for thinking of us. 🙂
👍👍👍👍👍
V notch the bottom of the studs where anchor bolts acure
😎
Wow, using the lift was a good idea that worked!!👏🏻👏🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻.
👍👍👍
I assume you will install 3 or 4 way light switching for this 3rd floor space.
That is a great idea. Thank you 🙂
Wow it's high, what's going to be the design of your lightning arrestor/spark down or I don't know how you guys call it, will it a goblin or angel?
We're still thinking about what to do for lightning. Thanks 🙂
I'm having dulce de Leche
Your doing it all wrong lol. You need to put zip line from 3rd floor to living area.
Oh heck yes
I think you need more blocking.
🤔 you know, I was thinking the same thing 😂
Drill a hole in the bottom of the stud
Hey….what are all the squares for in the two walls you did in this video.
That is extra blocking that is specifically for the type of siding we're going to install. It's to help attach the siding to the walls. Thanks 🙂
Do u have an Amozan wish list and Patrion?
We don't. All we have is PayPal. In the description of the video. Thanks 🙂
PayPall is no good for repeat payments
@@BajanAlan Oh, good to know. We'll look into something different. Perhaps it may be Patrion. Thank you.
Hurricane straps but no water
Nice haircut lol.
💪✍🏘🚜👍
what boots did you buy?
They are Brunt boots. And I have to say they are the best boots I've had out of the 15 years that I've been wearing construction boots.
👍👍
