Just turned 52 this year...this movie n countless 80's movies n soundtracks bring back so many memories..some good n some bittersweet..having said that if I could jump in a time machine I would live in the 80's forever..if u were a teenager in the 80's u'd get it...the best decade ever
Yes sir I was 13 in 1980 and that was the year I moved to Sayreville.NJ .from Union Beach NJ . Totally different the way the kids acted . I met a girl right before I turned 14 and we slept together . It was my first time and she was 16 . I remember her calling her friend and telling her I did not know what was doing. That was the last time I saw her . Then I got to start knowing my neighbors and met a kid named Anthony Bonjovi , Yes John Bonjovis younger brother . He was a real character . I also remember hearing Run Away for the first time at his house on a 45 record before it ever was on the radio . I was not really into his music though . Then John became famous and I lost touch with Anthony . I had the same girlfriend all through High School . Then she broke up with me after we graduated . That really killed.me . We did it every day too . Oh well I moved on Then there was the Skate rink in South Amboy where we would pick up girls and party in the woods . Some times bon fires under the Parkway Bridge I was getting served at the liquor store at 17.because I had a mustache .. I remember 1 summer my uncle went on vacation and I had to watch his house . He had a built in pool so one day I was hanging at the park with 8 girls smoking weed and I asked if they wanted to go swimming . We all packed in my 72 Nova and went to my uncle's . The girls brought no bathing suits so they all swam in just there panties lol I was in heaven . Latter on In 88 I met my wife . She was 17 I was 20 . And got her pregnant ..we kept it a secret until she started showing that summer . Then before she had my first child I agreed to pay child support before he was born Incase we broke up.. My first son was born November 88 and I stared playing support and we where still going out for the first 2 years we lived at our parents house then in 91 we moved in together and in 92 got married . And over the years s had 2 more children

This movie was a true eye opener -- one of the best 80s movie ever made -- you had the typical high school teenager antics which holds true today -- but the reality of the movie sets in and that is why this movie is so special -- imagine being that guy Gary who had the biggest crush in the world on someone and he does everything and anything to get her, even making a fool of himself -- while she is with the bad boy who gets all the girls. She gets pregnant and Gary comes to her rescue -- pours his heart out, helps her and goes to the end of the earth for only to be betrayed by her in the final scene when she goes back to the guy who did her wrong -- That is real life -- the movie got it right -- not all movies end well -- this one ended well because the ending was real and it happens all the time - from 1984 to present day and beyond this does happen more often than not -- i saw the movie on VHS in 1984 and i cried my eyes out at 14 when i saw it -- my parents looked at me said -- sadly this does happen in real life and its a real opener -- i am glad i watched it -- loved the soundtrack -- the movie sent a strong message -- that holds true even today
I think the same can be said about him too, although not to that degree. Rose was always there showing interest in him, and he just wants the pretty girl that clearly never wanted him.
This was and still is a rare find because it actually depicts how love often is in reality. Unlike 99% of movies in the romance genre, this story is bittersweet and doesn't have a "Disney" ending. A lot of time love really sucks.
I seen this movie in the 80’s before I was even a teen. Cried like a baby but Even at that young age…that lesson stayed with me. Told myself I’ll never be a Gary. Love someone who loves you! Great movie!
I just saw this movie yesterday. It broke my heart in two. I was fighting tears the rest of the night. I think most of us who have had a heartbreak can relate to Gary. I know I can.
That feeling in your stomach when your crush isn't interested and goes with your friend....it is excruciating. I can still feel it 35 years later when i see this movie.
This song was so true. Had a huge crush on my best friends girlfriend. Thought she was amazing. Cut to 30 years later and we have been married for 2 years and she was well worth the wait
This happened to me in high school. Me and girl were set to go out on a date. Before the date night, my best friend cuts in. She informs me she likes him. They broke up 2 years later. I don’t think she ever found love. 3 years later, I met my future wife and we are married 30 years.
It's true. But too one of better teen movie done. Unforgattable endings and amazing soundtrack. I was teenage when I saw. Taught me a lot. This song is the most striking in this movie.
Jesus... That ending. I can't even imagine any of these "woke" social media conscious films trying anything like this now. Everybody is too cool and cynical to be taken unawares. I will NEVER forget. My older cousin made me sit down and watch this bullshit when I was younger. Shit had me in tears. Life lessons yo. Word up. Lol
My generation,, 16-17 yrs old, sneaking out to a party without getting caught by mom...damn,...how time fly, now at 55, Mom and Dad are gone now, all that's left are good memories
I was just talking to my Grandmother (who raised me and is 90 as of 2020) and laughing about how 2 friends and I lied to all our parents about staying at each others for the weekend, then took our car from Springfield IL to Minneapolis, MN one summer....just to do it. Slept in the car, hung out in the Twin Cities and returned Sunday afternoon. Probably would have gotten away with it except I didn't notice there was a slight dent on the car, and Grandma wrote the mileage down just 3 days prior for insurance purposes. When she saw I put 1400 miles on the car over a weekend......let's just say how I still wasn't grounded my junior year of college is still a miracle. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Same here my time now at 47 I still reminisce the beat time of my life. Young love, crush, night outs gimicks, sneaking out just to be with friends. Wow to be young and happy. The best. I say enjoy life while still young but be smart. Xoxo
55 also It took me 2 years to walk away from my High School Crush , this movie was too real for me. I still jam out on this soundtrack and get those sad feelings.
The negative influences of this world are designed to make our heart sick through emotional & physical pain resulting in a given person turning to music as one source of comfort to the body. The painful realty of this existence gives rise to the birth of music in two forms, earthly & HEAVENLY. Earthly music speaks to the experiences of this world through the singer-song writer’s eyes. Oftentimes drug use (i.e. alcohol, smokes, marijuana, cocaine, opioids, benzos and propofol to name a few) is intertwined with the survival of an artist to deal with the pressure of performing in order to stay relevant in the music industry, and to serve as fuel for creativity. As a result, music celebrities develop a tendency to sin against their body, through excessive drug use, for not measuring up to or to satisfy the demands of their music. Any earthly joy they experience is darkened by the heavy burden of performing and the loss of privacy. The end users of their music become fans because the lyrics are relatable and the sound of the singer’s voice & rhythm helps them cope with the pains of this reality. Unfortunately, this band aid approach is only a time out from the hurt and in the meantime we are fortifying its wall with painful memories waiting in line. Who can save us from wounds that are silent, wordless and cruel all the while tearing us apart inch by inch on the inside, which could radically accelerate the demise of the human body? I will use caps as emphasis to show the honest reverence for GOD'S SOVEREIGNTY when writing about HEAVENLY music in the paragraphs below. That INVINCIBLE DIVINE be our HEAVENLY FATHER, WHO THROUGH HIS SON’S MISSION HAS INSPIRED believers to write songs that sing of HIS LIFE GIVING LOVE to deal with emotional & physical pain, economic instability, mortality and the emotional instability of others with the motive of winning over souls for HIS KINGDOM. The melody & theme of HEAVENLY music is hateful and intolerable to the devil, a spirit which causes us to be blinded of the effects of sin and is responsible for the woes of this world such as melancholy, anguish, tribulation and trial. These agitations of the soul create a heavy burden for the lost and could lead him or her to be hostile of songs that sing about GOD’S GLORY. This makes it clear that we cannot win the spiritual battle by our own strength. Moreover, on earth the devil has no equal. GOD has provided us with the ONE WHO CAN AND WILL LIFT the heavy burden of sin's guilt from a given sinner's heart if he or she (through faith) would open their understanding to Psalms (starting with the focus on Psalms 51:1-10 KJV), and hymns/songs giving praise to HIM for the purpose of being persuaded, converted and healed by the HOLY SPIRIT from within by transforming your body/temple into a meeting place for you and the KING OF THE AGES to commune as friends through the born again experience (repentance manifesting itself in a changed life). It is only here that the fears of tomorrow will diminish, the blessed assurance is given that you are HIS and HE LIVES. Once the blessed assurance is known in prayer (through the confession of wanting salvation from one’s sinful nature, combine with admitting that JESUS CHRIST is LORD and believing in one’s heart that GOD raised HIM from the dead to deliver us from sin's guilt) the world can never take it away because the world didn’t give it to you. All this LOVE is waiting for those who believe to receive. For it is written, by HIS STRIPES we are healed. Stand on GOD’S WORD and HIS PROMISES. Time will reveal that JESUS CHRIST IS LORD and HIM LOVING believers in a SPECIAL WAY (HIS VISION OF LOVE).
The end of that movie was soul crushingly painful, I remember being 18 and watching this movie with my friends and being in shock and total sadness for this guy. I was that guy, like many of us. I still get upset when I hear this song or Oh no by the Commodores.

I saw this movie when I was living in USA and I was an international student and it became part of my history...I love the song till today because it help me to comeback to those beautiful moments of my life😍

Back when music, tv and life was so much happier, wish I could turn the clock back and live through the eighties again , miss those times so much , life was so simple ,and both my parents were still alive

I remember seeing that movie just before graduating high school. It left me thinking about this whole game of relationships. One of my friends in my business class asked me if I’d seen it. I remember this movie growing up. Didn't really understand it at a young age but I get it now. Never get so involved with someone that you lose yourself.

One of the most cold blooded and depressing endings in cinema history. But James Ingram brought on the feels, RIP.
It's true. But too one of better teen movie done. Unforgattable endings and amazing soundtrack. I was teenage when I saw. Taught me a lot. This song is the most striking in this movie.
That ending broke my heart
I want the audience reaction in the cinema

Michael Clark you have a smart grandmother
Same here my time now at 47 I still reminisce the beat time of my life. Young love, crush, night outs gimicks, sneaking out just to be with friends. Wow to be young and happy. The best. I say enjoy life while still young but be smart. Xoxo

Watching this movie in 82 I learned to lessons 1) good guys don’t always get the girl 2) life isn’t fair, thanks to those responsible for this movie.
You're statement was so on point.
Listen to the song Devil Woman by the Phunk Junkeezs. Says it all.
Yeah, this should be educational and be shown in high schools but instead they show you how the good guy that is good at nothing gets the good girl

People say that his heart was broken. But I say he really dodged a bullet there...
Totally agree. Can you imagine what it would be like dating her? Hell on earth.
That boy was in love she didn't want no responsibility for kids she just wanted to screw in screw in screw
That's a good way to look at it.
i say he should have given the girl with the whacky glasses a chance
well, it was both.
The end of that movie was soul crushingly painful, I remember being 18 and watching this movie with my friends and being in shock and total sadness for this guy. I was that guy, like many of us. I still get upset when I hear this song or Oh no by the Commodores.
🎶🎶🎶Amazing how songs are instantly connected 2 a memory!💜✌️
And all these years on you are still a virgin.
Doesn't the movie involve a preborn baby murder perpetrated by the main female character?
I’m 27 and I’d say every man has been there or something similar. It’s a gut wrenching hurt, apart from a break up that feels just as painful.

Best for men to learn about heartbreak EARLY in life!
I loved the honesty of this movie
I did my best
But I guess my best wasn't good enough
Cause here we are
Back where we were before
Seems nothin' ever changes
We're back to being strangers
Wondering if we ought to stay
Or head on out the door
Just once
Can't we figure out what we keep doin' wrong
Why we never last for very long
What are we doin' wrong
Just once
Can't we find a way to finally make it right
To make the magic last for more than just one night
If we could just get to it
I know we could break through it
(Hmm hmm)
I gave my all
But I think my all may have been too much
Cause Lord knows we're not gettin' anywhere
Seems we're always blowin'
Whatever we've got goin'
And it seems at times with all we've got
We haven't got a prayer
Just once
Can't we figure out what we keep doin' wrong
Why the good times never last for long
Where are we goin' wrong
Just once
Can't we find a way to finally make it right
To make the magic last for more than just one night
I know we could break through it
If we could just get to it
Just once
I want to understand
Why it always comes back to goodbye
Why
Can't we get ourselves in hand
And admit to one another
We're no good without each other
Take the best and make it better
Find a way to stay together
Just once
Can't we find a way to finally make it right
Make the magic last for more than just one night
I know we could break through it
If we could just get to it
Just once
Whoa oh, we can get to it
Just once

I love this movie I'm 55 saw it many years ago I lived through a lot of this myself
The cute nerdy girl seemed really into him but he was too blinded by the vain beauty of the other girl to see it. Sometimes we don't realize we have the person who really appreciates us right infront of us the whole time.
We always want what we can't have and fail to see what's standing in front of us
@@robertrodriguez787 We don't ALWAYS want we cany have.
It just seems that way.
One of the 48 rules of power is to stop wanting what you can't have, it's the best revenge.
The ending is the best thing that could've happened to Gary/Garry.
It ripped the band-aid out fast, and early, instead of finding out later, and having him commit suicide.
She did him a favor. The worst is over.
He can move on.
@@backtothefiveanddime8629 where can I read that 48 rules etc.
@@supremo7217 Just use your friend Google.
It's an interesting list.
@@supremo7217 It's Law #36:
DISDAIN THINGS YOU CANNOT HAVE: IGNORING THEM IS THE BEST REVENGE.
It the explanation it states,
'If there is something you want, but cannot have, show contempt for it.
The less interest you reveal, the more superior you seem.'
If only all the Gary's in the world would be aware of this.
There is a line in a movie that I saw once that said "You never notice the good ones when you should."
Saudades, muitas.
