The first tool looks a bit like a variation on a billhook, traditionally used in the uk for hedge-laying (chopping small trees in half near the base, and "laying" horizontally to create an animal-proof hedge). They are different shapes depending on the region they are used in (as are the finished hedges). The hook prevents the whole blade hitting the ground when chopping near the soil, so that it doesn't become become blunt too quickly. They are great for clearing undergrowth and small branches, as the video says, being heavier than a machete.
