I whole-heartedly agree. She was very respectful in giving person being interviewed their space and time to express themself without rushing in to talk over them, so much is missed that the person may feel comfortable talking about whenever that's done. It's a rarity to observe such composure.
My thoughts exactly. You have to be very present to understand that. I was very disappointed with a recent interview from Gayle King with Master P regarding the recent painful death of his daughter, which I felt was insensitive and not empathetic at all.
I really admire Coretta’s courage, grace and style just the way she carried herself was classy and I loved it🌸🌸🌸

I agree. It's unfortunate that her and brothers are in dispute over father's bible that the brothers wanted to sell off. They already sold his bible to the highest bidder against Bernice wishes last time I checked they were in court over thus not sure I'd ti's been resolved. That's why I have mixed feelings over his sons Bernice seems the true daughter of MLK and one we look to to truly carry on her fathers legacy.

@@MarloShaVonne it's very sad I followed it when they were in court the judge had agreed fir his noble peace to be sold off citing it was not his personal possession the bible gave the family an opportunity to meditate and discuss. If both have been sold to museum not sure I'd this is a good/bad thing as don't know much about the museum. But if you listen to DR Bernice in her interviews she doesn't refer to her brothers only her sister who passed. There is probably to the stories that we would not be privy to.

That's true. They say behind every great man, there's a great woman. However I say that beside every great man, there's a great woman. The truth of matter is Dr MLK Jr and minister Malcolm X had great women by their sides.

There needs to be more appreciation of Winnie Mandela I feel she was sideline deliberately to serve the new polical agenda when Mandela wa release granted she made some mistakes however that should not have overshadowed all of her good work. History knows Mandela would nit have been released but for Winnie, it was Winne who kept Mandelas name alive all those years he was In prison. If you read her book you understand the torture, the intimidation, she expreniced when Mandela was in origin she was constantly harassed hounded by the police, she herself was imprisoned cos she failed to succumb to the racist police. I challenged you all to read about her horrendous experience whist in prison, do your research . This is not highlighted enough. As much as I respect and admire Mandela, Winnie sacrificed her life whilst he was in prison she went through he'll. Did people know that when Mandela was released Winnie was not in support of the truth and reconciliation? Why because of her horrendous expreniced that was not even acknowledged. Now the media want to portray her as a villain to serve their narrative and political agenda it us sn attempt to deflect away from the truth of Wnnie experiences. I my view she is a hero there would be no Mandela without Winnie.

I have always thought her Mother's quiet, intelligent power was her own choice. The same with the wife of Malcolm X, I believe these Women were the guides,
listening ears, and encouragers behind the power of these great men. I have also wondered for many years why Bernice did not continue her Ministry as a Pastor, even after the pain of her Sister's passing. I still enjoy her voice whenever she is speaking. Such Clarity,
understanding & power of speech!

I'm a witness! She did an outreach to HBCUs my senior year 79-80! I melted a little when I was in her presence. All I told her was I would so anything. And I Did! All the way to every region in Africa. Where I met another Queen Mother Dr. Betty Shabazz! We talked for hours in the Sandton Sun Restaurant. I am so honored to be in that inaugural group of college students. It was a joyous occasion. But, to be under the quiet tutelage of the Queen Mother Coretta Scott King. I mean that from the bottom of my heart 💗💚❤

I love how Rev. King speaks extemporaneously but in full highly developed paragraphs. This is what happens in households where children grow up with parents who think and speak like that, and have humility and insight about what they're actually saying and the deeper implications and applications of it. In every answer Rev. King creates, there's literally an introductory sentence, sentences that develop her point, and then a concluding sentence. I wish all children could grow up in that kind of intellectually rich, critically-thinking, environment.

Yes, my parents only had a 9th grade education. We never spoke correct English, never. Both of my parents worked very hard. That's what they showed us. I am #4 out of eleven. All of us had jobs, though. I found a decent job that I retired from for 30 years. And for that I am grateful. When God has your footsteps, theirs never any worries! Amen.

You know not my story… let me give you a little summate:
I met Coretta at my deceased male 1st cousin on my paternal side, his widow was heavy in Dallas politics…. I met her at a small private home (my cousins home ), maybe 6 people were invited….
Now my dad was married so was my mom, they met on a job my mom was the same age as my now deceased oldest sister (paternal) and the affair begot ME
They had me broke up both got a divorce, mom got on drugs abandoned me and my 3 older brothers….
That enough so stop being a victim in everything 😶

It’s crazy how much the generations before us didn’t talk about their lives.
I’ve been on Ancestry and 23andMe for years trying to find out about my biological grandfather who’s last name I carry, but have no idea about him or that side of the family. My grandmother never talked about him, even to my dad.
My grandparents didn’t speak my about their lives either.
Good luck with your search. It's always good to connect with our ancestors no matter the story behind their lives.
Many of the older folks just don’t like rehearsing the hurts and pain of their young lives and embarrassed about how they were treated. Mom talked a lot,but dad no.
Too much pain murder and oppression. They just wanted to move forward. That's what my 95 year old grandmother said. She Said the devil is evil in them. Stay focus on the lord.

I went to Antioch because they said that your mother went there. It was not clear until after I got there that they were not as supportive of Mrs King as they wanted everyone to believe. On another note, during the first commemoration of your fathers birthday, Antioch refused to acknowledge the day with services, they planned to be open with business as usual. Black students, like me. protested and shut the campus down. We had a huge press conference and after that Antioch celebrated Dr. Kings birthday.

He was the first African-American man to win the Pulitzer, and the first African American to win the award for journalism. HIS SON, THE HONORABLE GREGORY MONETA SLEET IS A RETIRED FEDERAL JUDGE FOR THE STATE OF DELAWARE AND WAS NOMINATED FOR THE FEDERAL JUDGESHIP BY THEN SENATOR JOE BIDEN AND APPOINTED BY PRESIDENT BILL CLINTON. Federal Judge Gregory Sleet was the first African American to be appointed United States Attorney in Delaware, and the first to be appointed to the federal bench in Delaware. Her correct title is ”The Reverend Doctor Bernice King”. She earned a 4 year undergraduate degree then a 3 year gMaster’s of Divinity, a
. She earned a doctorate in a related field to ministry. She is an outstanding preacher and clergy.

Her mother was a great woman. I remember I was walking down Auburn avenue after work tired from working all day wasn't paying attention to where I was walking just listening to my headphones and accidentally walked past her body God and bumped into her I looked up she was smiling no one did nothing she smiled and all her bodyguards for smiling I felt so embarrassed she said nothing bad about it I said excuse me and what about my way very nice person she is I wanted to tell her that when I was little I grew up in Montgomery Alabama and hurt so many great things about her. And Dr Bernice can spoke at my daughter graduation in Atlanta she told great jokes about her father telling jokes I thought she was so cool taking pictures with all the graduates.
Behind every great man there is a great woman. Many of the women never get acknowledged for the work they did behind the scenes. Coretta was a genius and Goddess.

Has Bernice written a book on her mother? I was born in 1940. I was in Montgomery attending a Baptist Convention during the time when Dr. King was there. I was a teenager. My husband and I were later church musician where Mrs. King’s family attended in Tuscaloosa, Alabama . I experienced the testing that was done to keep us out of colleges. THIS AN AWESOME INTERVIEW!
