Hey, so this is not a knock on your video, I really liked it :) This is more so a comment on the question you pose on a peaceful transition led top-down from the colonists. As a master's history student of colonisation, I find it interesting you mention that the Congo had no little to no infrastructure and then go on to say that if only the colonists could have guided the natives to build infrastructure...not making the connection that the reason why there was no infrastructure/stable system of govt was a design built within (most) colonial systems. The exploitation of the Congolese resources and people was (and still is) the point of Belgium-Western (post-) colonialism. Also, a big factor into the civil war was the investment given by Western (particularly French/Belgian) companies/institutions into the resource-rich state of Katanga, which shows how much the colonists cared for "a stable system of govt" once they saw the curtain closing. Just my two cents on the matter. Very enjoyable video, but just maybe don't give credit to the colonisers next time.
Glad you enjoyed the video! With the top down transition of power, I was mostly thinking of what Congo would look like had the natives actually gotten a say and were allowed to be involved in governing their land. Sure its unrealistic, given that colonialism is mostly about resource extraction and not about long term growth and local prosperity (not to mention that colonists tend to be destructive when they have to leave) but I always wonder about what if they actually got a fair chance instead of being plundered and then abruptly left with a chaotic power vacuum (and assassination of their first democratically elected leader.)
All the colonies and Askari stuff is really one of my favoritos things during world war 2, I hope we get to see a little more about Askari troops skins with maybe a few more new nations like Belgian Congo but for France, UK, etc., pretty cool
"Bongo, bongo, lets go to Congo!"
