Being an Aussie - born with a Gray Nicolls scoop bat . I grew up as an opening bat and made 1st grade club - 1 level under 1st Class Cricket (Sheffield Shield) I’ve faced Brett Lee, McGrath, Macgill , Clarke etc. early / mid 1990s. Put a squash ball in your right hand glove / it will stop over balancing Your defence is solid - head over the ball Work on your shots sq it are of the wicket . Roll your wrists . You play in the arc nicely , but you tend to overbalance on the offside drives . Try practicing with a squash ball in your right glove . Worked for Gilchrist

@@canyoucricket Thats amazing! we are not quite lucky here though, local cricket plays on synthetic pitches, only higher level has turfs reserved for them
For a beginner, I would suggest blocking the ones that are fuller (ball lands closer to your feet) and hit the shorter ones(balls landing halfway to 3/5 on the pitch). As you progress, you might want to learn how to do drives, which would help you score runs off the fuller balls.
if you get to bat with the guy you were .. it all becames too good n easy n understanble.. thats why the guy on the other side matters so much in cricket at professional level.
